That depends, if you have a BB credit card and are Elite Plus, you get 6% back.

If you have the usual Amazon Visa card and Prime you can convert it to the new 5% cash back. I would guess that many longtime Amazon customers have the Amazon Visa card; no need to fuss with getting another card.

How do you do that?

But there's also the advantage of going into the store, being able to pick out an item that is undamaged and doesn't have a loose disc, and then leaving the store with product in hand. There's something to be said for not having to wait for a delivery to arrive.

And I do have one of those cards. So far, my spending hasn't increased too much, but then again, other stores have had more aggressive sales.

Based on the level of undamaged product I've gotten from Amazon, I'll gladly wait a day to avoid going into Best Buy. I don't need that satisfaction of walking out of a store with product in hand.

Are we still debating the merits of physical vs online shopping?

This is my guess. They probably have customers broken into segments, and the ones who place frequent free-shipping orders would be considered "Prime" targets. If there's no uptick there, then the point of the upcharge is lost. Other than Amazon saving some money on shipping, I suppose, but Prime has shown that that's not their biggest concern.

When BD prices are same at Best Buy (or Target) vs Amazon. I prefer to buy at Best Buy (or Target) .

Remember if weren't for Best Buy or Target Sale - Amazon would not lower their price. It is good to keep B & M stores in business.

And yes you can pick BD with slip cover and non loose disk etc. Plus stores have other add-ons / freebies like book or toy etc

Big thanks for that! I've been hovering over the 'buy button' on a $50.27 order for a couple of days now -- including the limited edition TRAILER TRAUMA 3 at $22.91 and MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER VOL. II at $18.67 (new low), as well as a book -- hoping the prices wouldn't go back up before I decided to bite, but that discount made it much easier. Appears to be one-use only, by the way.

I had bought the Parks/Rec complete series on DVD a few weeks ago when it was temporarily out of stock. Since it still hadn't shipped, I cancelled that order. Reordered it now at the same price which made it a lot easier to reach the $50 point.

I'm about to do something similar. Cancel a couple of other orders to combine them and get to $50. :)

Wish I could find $50 I want (& it has to be sold by Amazon; "fulfilled by Amazon" doesn't count towards the $50)................................

Deal of the Day: https://www.amazon.com/Trilog%C3%ADa...lermo+del+toro

Although, I believe it will be cheaper during Barnes & Noble's half off Criterion sale.

That's an excellent set. I got it for $50 in 2011, listed at $53 with a $3 Gold Box discount (remember those?). That may give some pricing perspective over the last Not a loser in the bunch. Even Head is worth watching for the weird factor.

Although it's indicated it will ship anywhere from 1 to 2 months [it was a Lightning Deal earlier in the week, believe it was going for $44.99], WB's Special Effects Collection is priced at $32.04.

Consists of:
Son of Kong, Mighty Joe Young, Them! & The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms

For those outside KY and NY who pay sales tax at Amazon you may consider waiting for the expected Criterion.com flash sale which should be coming up in the next week or so (most likely date 2/28 or 3/7) it should be 62.49 which qualifies for FS.

Will Amazon match? I'm pretty sure I won't be able to meet Criterion's $50 minimum for free shipping.

hdnmickey 02-26-17 12:35 PM

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Even on sale the box set will qualify for Criterion's free shipping level. That's the point. I'm holding off based on the tip.

If so, it would have been easy to make that clear.

Anyway, I realized I had a ton of accumulated Amazon money from prior gift cards. Accumulated because I can rarely create an order over $50 for free shipping anymore. So I went for this box set to burn some of that balance off.
