Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Has anyone had issues with them not shipping preorder Blu's out until days and sometimes a week after release day?

I am starting to feel like I should never preorder from Amazon again.

Absolutely. But sadly they are not alone. Recently I've received new releases from both Best Buy and Target many days after the actual release date despite ordering them weeks, or months in advance.

Right, but Target and Best Buy have never guaranteed delivery by release day. That was one of Amazon's big things.

I almost always get Target pre-orders on the Thursday or Friday of release week. GoT last week was the first time I actually received anything on release day, and I think that was because it was shipped UPS instead of USPS.

I rarely pre-order anything from Amazon, but I've had them sit on an in-stock order for over a month before they shipped it. It was a deal of the day that was out of stock when I ordered it, it came back in stock (at Amazon, not a third party seller) a wek later, and they didn't ship it until four weeks after that.

Amazon has become like the old phone co monopolies, "We don't care, we don't have to". That's what happens when there is little competition in a capitalist system. Capitalism requires competition to work as it's supposed to.

...from the days when media was hot and they wanted to keep anxious people from buying in stores.

With quick price drops these days, there's less and less incentive to pre-order non-Disney titles anyway.

When would that have been? I think I've received maybe on or two items on release day. Ever. The rest came during the same week. But at least a day or two after the fact. Not complaining, because I pre-ordered usually for a lower price. Fact is most of the time the first day I have to watch new movies is Friday.

I haven't kept close track, but of the ones I've preordered, I think I've maybe not gotten it release day a handful of times.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. There's only a couple of titles that I preorder any more.

FTR - Most of my pre-orders are Disney related titles or exclusives. Otherwise, I also wait for price drops.

Wow, you're right. About $3 cheaper. Last time I saw these, they were around $15+

By the way, Kino's Film Noir 5-Film Set is down to $42.99. Very tempting.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (Deluxe Edition) is $11.99. 'Temporarily Out of Stock' but it let me order for that price. Not sure how that price compares to other places.

I got it at BB last week for that price. They sent me a $5 cert and I had $5 from shopkick . Plus it had $8 in movie cash on it.

Chungking Express (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]

Currently available for ~$28. If you're a Criterion fan, you'll be pissing your pants right now. Get it while it's still available. I placed my order over a week ago at $40, and it actually dropped! Worst case scenario...your order will be canceled.

Best case scenario? Well...

And considering it's been out of print for a while, it's quite a catch at that price. Already have it, but if I didn't have it, I'd grab it now.

Didn't know these were going for so much. I still have a sealed Criterion Collection Chungking Express sealed Blu-ray sitting on the shelf.

It will be interesting to see if this is a DVD, a totally unrelated item with the wrong bar code, the non Criterion Chunking item, or if Amazon found a box of OOP Bluray items hiding in the corner of the warehouse or the basement of a shipping clerk.

The last 2 OOP or extremely limited quantities items I've ordered from Amazon that were delivered have both been incorrect UPCs

Yeah, I have to wonder how many of these were found, if they are legit, considering they are still taking orders over 10 days ago when I ordered.

No wonder it went OOP. Amazon had half the stock sitting somewhere in a warehouse...probably in the same section as Chinese Noodles and Egg Foo Young mixes.
