BTW, they gave me 1 trade-in receipt and 1 coupon.

The girl at the register just scanned the coupon 4 times for the discounts to apply.

Got The Debt and Fright Night no problem, but Stripes rang up at $9.75, though the shelf said $9.99. I initially just bought it anyway (my wife likes it a lot) but then got annoyed and returned it. That's just bullshit. I'm writing a letter.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

I decided to go yesterday to my local Best Buy. I assumed it being Tuesday afternoon all the problems would've been worked out. I walk in at 4:00. I go to the CS desk and tell him I have DVD's to trade in and he said "you go back there, but I don't see anyone, just follow me" so he takes me to the trade in desk for video games, I remind him I have DVD's and he holds up one finger and nods like he knows. So finally a guy comes there and says he has no clue how to do this, they've never did a trade in for DVD's before. He fools around for a few moments and by this time it's 4:15. He finally says he's waiting on his manager to show up, so he'll go find him. I told him I'd be looking at the blus. Twenty minutes later he shows back up and tells me to follow him, he takes me back to the CS desk and tells me to hang out there, the manager would be there soon. The original guy comes back and asks if I had a problem with something, and I told him I was still waiting to trade in my dvds. At around 4:45-4:50 the manager and 3 employees all come to the CS computer I'm at. They all are gonna learn this at once they said. After about 5 minutes of talking and randomly punching in codes, they don't know how to do it. They take a the blu of 40 Year Old Virgin and scan it and it says 9.99. Sticker price at $14.99 so they said they got it working. They didn't know how but they got it to work. I then informed them 40YOV was $9.99 the sticker is just incorrect, so this puts us back to step 1. Finally they get this piece of paper that has the $5 off any blu over $9.99 bar code on it. He scanned 40YOV, then piece of paper and it took $5 off making it $4.99. I finally walked out around 5:05. The guy said he was sorry but then said "at least it didn't take too long". He had only be helping me for like 15 minutes. He had no clue I'd been there an hour but I didnt complain really. Takes a lot to get me upset over something like this.

I got 40YOV, Dumb and Dumber, Warrior, My Idiot Brother, Contagion. Was about $50. I had a gift card with $30 left on it so only $20 out of pocket.

Was surprised I was the first one to do this in my town. It's not like I like in a huge area but I assumed someone would have done it before me, with me waiting almost 3 days.

Did you ask them to adjust it to the shelf tag price or no? I know one store they just refused to do it, but the other one went ahead and overrode the price to $9.99 so that the coupon would work for me.

Ended up grabbing this morning:

Stripes $5
Spiderman $5
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon $5
Smokin Aces $5
The Goonies $7

Still need to find When Harry Met Sally and 10 things I Hate About You. Otherwise think I'm done between these 5 and the other 5 I got on Monday.

I told the guy training the cashier during my transaction that the tag was $9.99 in two places and he said "oh, I'll have someone change it." Customer Service said the same thing. I just said screw it.

Wrote my email to Best Buy Corporate this morning - we'll see if anything comes of it.

And what the hell are you going to do with 7 of them? It has one hd episode on it, it's not like you are going to make money on it. It's just going to sit there collecting dust when someone who actually wants it can't get one thanks to you.

Hey, that's awesome.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Traded in 3 more, at a different store. Right when I walked it, the loss prevention dude told me to pick out the BD's I wanted, then go to CS. I grabbed When Harry Met Sally, Our Idiot Brother, and I figured I'd take a gander at Stripes. Well, apparently someone already paved the road for me. It rang up $9.75 of course. The CS clerk called her Supervisor over, and I said "oh oh", but she just casually asked "how did we do that other one that came up at $9.75?". the Supervisor told her to override the price to $9.99, and it worked like a charm (at $4.75). WOOHOO! No luck on Road to Perdition. I don't think it's out there in my area...

They never even looked at the titles I traded in. Two of them had missing UPC's from rebates, and the other was in a Blockbuster case.

They'll lower more prices to $9.75. That's what is more likely than them raising it back to $9.99...

You might go in at another time and try a different CSR. I had a similar situation and the second CSR I asked to increase the price back up to $9.99 (on Boyz N The Hood and Glory) was easily able to do it.

I will try to go back in and actually buy a copy of Stripes instead of them trying to gift me a copy once it goes back to 9.99.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Went in today and they were clueless. The associate decided she was just supposed to ring up 5 of the coupons (she said there was a limit, so I brought my 6th DVD back home), and gave me the receipt and the coupons. She then asked me what she was supposed to do with the DVD's? I probably should have said give them back to me

I didn't even try Stripes because of the $9.75 thing. I used a couple coupons and held on to some to use later, hoping for a good sale on Real Steel when it comes out.

I went back today and it was an absolutely painless experience. The guy at the door stickered the DVD's and then a cute Ukrainian girl at CS took them and told me to go ahead and pick out the blu-rays I wanted. I grabbed what I wanted, went back to CS and she rang me up. Bingo-bango, out of there. I picked up:

Sucker Punch (w/sexy slipcover) - $9.99
Out of Sight - $7.99
Good Will Hunting - $4.99
Thelma & Louise - $4.99
Insomnia - $4.99

The only one that wasn't a blind buy was Sucker Punch.
