Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Went to BB last night, when I noticed that the price tag for Traffic was placed under the Criterion version, with nary a regular version in sight. 4.99+tax out the door

yesterday, I saw a bunch of copies of the 100th ann. 40-year-old virgin stocked in the placeholder for the BD/DVD/DC indicating a 9.99 price. If I hadn't already got 40YOV for 2.40, I might have bit.

So far for $4.99:

Good Willing Hunting
Insomnia
Snatch
The Truman Show
Twister
Apollo 13
Kick-Ass
Cape Fear

Scarface for $9.99 and Hobo with a Shotgun for $12.99

Still no luck getting them to adjust the $9.75 titles or accepting Louie. Going back today to check for American Beauty, which hasn't been restocked in well over a week.

No, but the only difference in 100 anniversary is artwork, slipcover, dvd & digital copy, which I don't need..

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Both my local Best Buys are a mess and really picked over. Wanted to pick up Last Action Hero and the Funny Farm/Spies Like Us double pack but they were nowhere to be found. One of the employees told me that the double feature is a dvd not a bluray and it's listed wrong on the website.

I also found out that a stack of the upgrade coupons got stolen so they are demanding to see recipts for the trade in.

Can we please refrain from posting "fraud". When Joe Blow goes into the store and unknowingly happens upon a "deal" like this it is one thing. But when one of us do it, IT IS WRONG and you obviously realize thay with your wink.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

I used my last coupon up on Incredible Hulk, just to complete my comics movies transition to BLU ray, but found one that had a green plastic case while the others were the standard blue color. I didn't see any other difference, content-wise, so was this just a design difference for the green superhero?

It is not fraud if the price tag was placed in front of the item. It is not my responsibility to monitor BB's actions for possible mistakes. I may not adhere to your idea of morality, but again that is just the "lwa" you decide to slive in.

Surprised you haven't posted before in this thread about your endeavors at BBY.
Galaxy Quest have price tags of $16.99 or $9.99, but also Top Gun can be found with $9.99 stickers at some stores. I also found Once upon a time in the west with both $9.99 and $19.99 stickers on it. Memento had a $26.99 sticker up top and an $11.99 sticker at the bottlm, but it actually rang up at the lower price surprisingly.

Yet you posted this earlier in the thread:

"Did you ask them to adjust it to the shelf tag price or no? I know one store they just refused to do it, but the other one went ahead and overrode the price to $9.99 so that the coupon would work for me."

Sounds like you did the same thing although not as big a loss.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

If the tag is for that version of the film then yes it's not fraud, if the tag is NOT for the item in front of it then it is, plain and simple. You know how to read right? I'm sure the tag clearly said Universal on it with the sku that wasn't for the CC. And you definitely knew better, if it makes you sleep better at night thinking that it's not your fault (even though it would be very easy for yourself or someone else to MOVE the price tag in front of that one as they are just pieces of paper that come out easily). It is fraud regardless of whether you knew or not. The mitigating factor is whether it was intentional or not in which yours was according to your post.

I personally grew out of stealing when I was young and won't resort to that as an adult as i can merely afford what I want to buy without using deception.

Why is it the customer's job to read the tag and match the sku numbers? Does the store or its employees bear no responsibility for how they display items for sale?

As I stated, it was likely the UNIVERSAL release Tag under it. A tag might I add that can easily be taken out and moved in front of any movie, or the movies can be moved behind the tag. That is NOT their fault if someone else moves the stuff around. That is akin to people switching price stickers on 2 items to get the more expensive one cheaper.

It IS the customers responsibility to know right from wrong and as such if you see something that might be off to not try to scam it anyways.

How do you know that it wasn't a customer that placed the Criterion version in the $9.99 slot? I have witnessed customers move items to a cheaper slot in hopes of getting the deal.

Stores from time to time will make advertisement/pricing mistakes and there's nothing really all that sinful about making the stores honor said mistakes. I wouldn't go as far as to call it "fraud" or "stealing".

You should read my post, they DIDNT make a mistake. The price label under it was NOT for the CC one, it was for the Universal release that someone probably moved right in front of the CC collection. The CC was not advertised at 9.99. This isn't even close to the same thing you are suggesting.

That's my point, and sadly the only way to combat that would be to have them all behind a counter and leave some kind of "take a ticket to cs" ticket out there like Toys R Us used to do for video games back in the past.

The bottom line is that if you are going to steal, don't come here to brag about it or be ready to expect someone to smack you down and call you on your shit.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Sorry, but it is ultimately the employee's responsibility to make sure a customer has not switched the items or is otherwise attempting to defraud the store. When the price comes up differently than what the shelf tag indicates, it is up to the employee and/or manager to investigate why, not just simply do an override under the assumption the customer is right.

I am not advocating committing an intentional deception nor am I commenting on this specific instance that is under discussion, just responding to the idea that the customer must police the store and ensure everything is according to the store's policies. Sorry, but that's ridiculous.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

I guess that is what happens when they spine their merchandise. Traffic the universal and Traffic the criterion were probably side by side, yet the tag is larger than the spine width. So while he probably knew better since he visits these places, the regular jo schmo might not and get the same deal.
