Still interested in CARLITO'S, CAPE FEAR and THE CROW, but news of the Selznick HITCHCOCK's showing up at Costco for $9.99 may curtail my plans. Would that I could afford everything, but what fun would that be?

I know it is. I tried telling the employee that, but he wasn't having it. "They don't make blu-ray double features."

I love that place.

The Best Buy I go to will only give you the reduced price if the UPC/SKU number is the same on the movie and the shelf tag. Guess they didn't want to check.

I went today. Picked up

Kick ass and The man from nowhere for 15$. Also picked up blood diamond, but it was 7.99 before hand.

This store also had Traffic CC mixed in with the price tag of 9.99. It didn't specify what edition it was for, so I probably could have pushed the issue. But I didn't care that much.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

I think it's bordering on stealing if you knowingly try to get them to over ride a price on something like the CC that was on the wrong spot.

If I took a product and they said there is more then one version and the other version is on sale I really don't feel like i would have a case to argue that. Employees, what's left of them aren't going to monitor the shelf every few minutes to make sure some bozo customer didn't put a disc in the wrong space.

Anyway went to the Stanton De store and expected to have a problem as I always do there with anything.

Took ten discs in and the woman said you can only get five. I said that I wasn't going to buy more then a couple movies anyway. Nope sorry only five.
These were the same discs I took to another location and was told they couldn't be accepted.
So it's store to store, employee to employee.

All could find that I wanted was Casino. No Dante's Peak, no Journey but there was a bunch of American beauty.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Purchases today (4th trip):

The Change Up and POTC: On Stranger Tides ($29.99 for both), and I tried use the $5 coupon as well, but they were rejected by the BB system. Two different managers tried to get it to work, but couldn't (no biggie).

So, I snagged the last copy of Apollo 13 (100 Anniversary) for $1.99 and Invincible for $4.99.

Like many others have stated on this site, the shelves at the two BBs I visited today were pretty lean on $9.99 titles overall. Good thing I got started looking for blu-rays at the beginning of this sale...

.
But I think that's inherently the problem.. the CC wasn't in the wrong spot. It sits right next to the regular version(which was sold out), and sale sign didn't distinguish what version the sale was for, so it wouldn't be stealing.

I totally agree if someone moves an item from another place, then tries to go get that item for the price they are moving it to is stealing or fraud.

It's not like that at all stores though. At my store they have all the Criterion discs in the C section and the regular traffic is in the T's

Still the little wink the person who posted put meant that obviously he knew what he was doing and knew that it wasn't the one on sale. That was the only contention and I can't speak for others, but if he knew like I suspect he did, then he basically scammed them for it which is as good as stealing.

As I said, it isn't that he did it, it's that he knowingly scammed them. As said earlier, it's one thing to not know there were 2 and get them to price match, but doing it knowingly is completely wrong and I don't know how someone can argue that.

All I'm saying is that if you knowingly did it then call it what it is. Stop with the excuses "It is their fault for not checking", "They've done me wrong before", "They are a big business so they can afford it". At least don't act like what you did was ok.

If its not stealing it's unethical and just simply the wrong thing to do. Two different items, it doesn't matter where they are or on what shelf they're on.

Agreed.

That reminds me that some guy on blu-ray.com said he went to the spiderman release that was 9.99 and someone had put the trilogy behind the tag. He tried to pricematch it. He was going off how the manager checked and wouldn't give it to him so he called corporate demanding that they check the tapes to show that it was behind the 9.99 tag.

Needless to say, everyone called him a douche and called him out on that stupid shit.

I would agree that unethical or immoral would be the proper terms to use. As for the shelf prices? They all clearly state the SKU number for the item, so you can always distinguish which version is truly on sale since the SKU is on every best buy price sticker.

That's funny. I can't believe people who go that far to scam a deal. Stores can't be responsible for where customers place items. Stores would go broke if they had to honor every single price where an item was incorrectly placed. That is why most stores (albeit not Best Buy) have price scanners all over the store. People can verify the prices of items if they are unsure of the price.

Exactly. It doesn't matter what version sits behind the tag, it matters if it matches the SKU. That's what they go by at the store.

I'm not arguing with you guys. I'm with you. I'm just saying what i saw at the store I went to.

I like to think most of the people that visit this forum are pretty frugal shoppers and try to get the best deal possible. Some people take it too far and press the issue with stores, when they are knowingly scamming.

I think the average consumer has gotten smarter also, but they are still not as frugal as some as you. Hence why people still shop frequently at best buy! =)

Also. If they intended for the customer to match sku's.. they would print it large enough for someone to read at a reasonable distance.

I have enjoyed this promotion. Picked up Superbad, Wall Street, and Good Will Hunting today. That's a total of nine on this promotion. May go back Saturday for a couple more. Apollo 13, Watchmen, and Cannonball Run(guilty pleasure). Not much left at my local BB either.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Love this deal. It allows me to dispose of the worst of my DVD collection, stuff that would never sell, and replace some of my favorites on BRD.

For me @ $5:

Kill Bill Vol 1
Kill Bill Vol 2
The Crow
Kick Ass
Inglorious Basterds
Snatch
Leon
Troy

I've felt your pain, but after two weeks of checking, was finally able to get one at my store. Thing is, I had to ask an employee about it to finally get one, though.

I had gone in Friday afternoon, and was disappointed with the lack of stock on the floor. I asked someone when they would be getting another shipment, as there were some titles they had advertised I had been checking for, but still hadn't seen any in stock in almost two weeks of checking. They said they would be getting one later that day, and to look again tomorrow. Back I went the next day, hoping they may finally have more stock out. Nope. It didn't even look like they had gotten anything new from the previous day. So I asked another clerk if they had in fact gotten a shipment the day before. He said yes, and when I explained the predicament to him, he actually looked in their system to see if they had any on hand. Turns out they showed they did, even though no product was on the floor. He said - "Give me a minute, I'll see if they're still out back"- then proceed to come back from the stock room with a copies of The Hulk and 40 Year Old Virgin in hand. Moral to the story - when in doubt, it pays to ask.

I really didn't think to match SKU's though I suspected it was not for the Criterion version. Everyone has laws that they consider righteous and when others do not adhere to their laws they call them "unethical" or "immoral". I did not change tags or move BD's around --- I simply took advantage of a price mistake (as many on this forum have done), whether that price mistake was a mispriced item in their computer system or a wrong tag, I really don't see much of a difference, though that is my "morality".

There was no price mistake; you took advantage of a lazy employee. The tags at the store list the correct SKU and it wasn't for the Criterion. And you knew that. I looked at the tags and it also said it was for the Combo pack with a regular price of 14.99. Clearly not the Criterion. I don't care if you got the deal but don't pretend you didn't know what you were doing.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Trade and Save is getting so much easier for me. When I first took movies in at the beginning of this promotion, the employee carefully looked over each DVD I was trading in. The more that I go in, the more that I notice, they don't care so much. Today I took in a stack, the lady picked them up, tossed them on the shelf and gave me the coupons and receipt. Took less than a minute.

Had to slightly argue with the cashier though tonight because I only bought one movie (Glory) and even though it said $9.99 on the shelf, it rang up as $9.75. The employee rang it up and scanned the coupon and hit okay without reading the part where it wasn't accepted. He told me my total (which was over 10 bucks with tax) and when I pointed out the coupon didn't ring up, he kept insisting that it did. He didn't grasp the fact that my $4.99 BD should not have rung up as over $10. Finally someone came over and explained why it didn't ring up, and then they adjuested my total.

I would've picked up a few others, but I'm noticing that many of the newer 100th anniversary Universal BDs don't have slips on them at my local Best Buy. I stopped by another store yesterday and all theirs had slips. I hope my local store is pulling the same thing as the Target next door, which did toss all of the slips so they could fit in those clear security cases. Best Buy has no reason to toss these slips though.
