But unfortunately it's still missing the chronological version of the movie from the DVD edition. I'm waiting for $5 or less before a do a double dip since I don't watch this movie very often and I'm offended just on principle whenever any existing DVD extras are left off a BD. This re-release is much better than the last one, so I've read, but to quote Richard Boone in Big Jake "you come real close, mister, but no cee-gar".

Yes, but it also replaces the difficult menu system from the DVD edition with one that's easy to navigate, from what I understand.

That is very true. I hated the previous menu. I'm still planning on buying the new edition of Memento BD once it's a bit cheaper, but I still have to keep my annoying menu DVD for the chronological version.

Yes, I am offended by BD titles that drop existing extras from the DVD because as an OCD completist it means I can't get rid of my DVD but have to keep both. That means the price I'm willing to pay for a "crippled extras" BD is less than a full featured BD. I don't know if it's more than half, but there are a lot more than there should be. I've always wanted to know if it's laziness, a rights issue (seems doubtful if it's the same studio), or there's some other reason so many extras get dropped (like planned double/triple dips).

Besides picture/audio quality, my primary use of DVD-Basen (and in particular Hi-Def DVD Digest reviews) is to compare the extras on BDs to the DVD edition and make notes which BDs are missing extras so I can avoid them or wait for even lower prices. Often (but sadly not always) Hi-Def DVD Digest will say "this Blu-Ray includes all of the extras from the previous DVD edition", but most of the time I have to compare them myself. Too bad it's not easier.

I usually put the DVD in an envelope, stick the envelope in the Blu-ray case, and toss the DVD box. That way I save space and still have the extras. Sometimes, if it's only the commentary that's missing, I'll rip it to my computer and synch the mp3 to the Blu-ray, as my Mac is connected to the television.

Same here. I know in the early days of DVD, some actors were paid some big bucks for commentaries or other extras. I seem to remember that maybe Arnold was paid some hefty amount of money for a commentary, but it's been so long I can't remember. I wouldn't be surprised if actors are paid royalties for the extras, but again I'd like some verification on that.

Otherwise the studies are just being a-holes.

A couple times I checked that, and found it to be untrue, so I just imagine no release as being truly complete now.

That's a great idea. I'll go so far as to ordering multi-disc BD cases for if I have to add several DVDs to a BD to make it complete.

Yeah, it's not really worth the time of selling DVDs anymore since most of them are only worth a $1 or $2. I just keep them and make a BR/DVD combo pack out of them unless it's a combo pack to begin with. I done that with all the Adam Sandler ones I upgraded and many others.

Arnold was paid $75,000 for that commentary. Interviews from the stars given before a film's release, such as EPK material, is royalty-free for a studio to put on a home video version. Which is why that type of feature is often the only extra material now when studios cut costs on a release. New participation specifically for a home video release usually means the actor/director was compensated for it.

On the positive side, this version has the Elvis Mitchell interview...so I can get rid of my first pressing of the DVD....keep the second edition...I'll probably still hold off for now.
