You might be able to do a live chat and explain the situation and see if they'll give you an adjustment instead. I still can't believe they haven't set up something to allow you to distinguish between gift cards and promotional credit as payment forms.

Yup. I'm sure I and others have discussed this annoyance in months or years past in the Amazon deals thread. The only way around it is to preorder something expensive enough to use up all your GC balance, order the BD with the $8 promo credit, and then cancel your preorder. It's stupid but I've told Amazon about it at least 3 times over the years and each time the reps said it was a good suggestion that they would forward to their suggestion box which I believe goes to dev/null (or the Recycle Bin in Windows land). Either that or they are slow as molasses acting on suggestions. So I have no problem doing this workaround frequently. I haven't yet heard of Amazon penalizing or blacklisting people for placing preorders and immediately canceling them. There are plenty of expensive titles to preorder or you can just order a large quantity of something.

That's a great workaround, thanks! I never would've thought of that.

Yup. Actually it has been discussed in the past but I realize it's not easy to read through pages of past posts to find stuff. I just did my workaround a few minutes ago to preorder Peter Pan because I hate tying up a GC balance on a preorder I don't know if I'm going to keep. Fortunately I'm down to about $30 GC credit so it was easy to find something. When I had a higher balance I had to do things like preorder 2 copies of a ST:TNG BD season.

I'm confident (as you can tell from my above post) that Amazon will not fix this issue any time soon.

And I'm surprised that we haven't gotten a link on Amazon's BF page for the calendar of lightning deals. If they don't have it up on Saturday I'll start to get worried. It would be awful if they no longer pre-published the titles and prices for the upcoming day but instead made us all sit there waiting for every deal to start like they sometimes do on game deals where they give a bunch of ??? and some vague hint at what the game is. I'd be really unhappy if Amazon did that this year, especially as I can't twiddle around online every few hours while at work.

EDIT: While in my Amazon account, I noticed that under my gift card history, instead of showing pages of all of my past transactions they had all disappeared except for 3 transactions back in August. The balance is still correct, but I was curious if anyone else has looked at his gift card history on Amazon today and found that the history is (mostly) gone? I hope it's just a glitch as I may not have saved it all recently enough.

Yeah I got that before as well. May I suggest placing another bogus pre-order for something down the line while using your GC, then placing your Peter Pan pre-order and then cancelling the first one?

Edit: Someone beat me to it!

^Thanks guys. It worked like a charm. I was too paranoid to pre-order anything that was released before January, so I grabbed 2 January Criterion releases then canceled them after getting the Pan order in.

I've done that workaround a few times, too. It is most annoying...

Thanks for the info. My hope is that the selling price might go down a bit the week of the sale - which will make it an even better deal.

I missed out on The Conversation ... oh well.

Thanks. It wasn't earlier as I still had the page open to it. But, when I did a refresh ... voila ... back to $6.99.

Re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27

Amazing that the same writer/director made two of the greatest films of all time in the same year, CONVERSATION and GODFATHER II. Ah to go back to those early 70's days of filmmaking before it all started to fall apart with JAWS and STAR WARS and studios only caring about weekend grosses.

A great bargain for $6.99. Add that to the $19.99 GODFATHER set and you've just created a solid film library for under thirty bucks.

Yes, unfortunately, but I'm happy putting my head in the sand and pretending it never happened.

What were the titles. I have a free prime offer on one of my accounts so I usually do a pre-order and then cancel after BF.

I'm done with Disney pre-orders at Amazon. They almost never have the lowest price and you never know until the last minute if they will PM.

^ Say what? I am willing to bet that if you go back in history over the last 2 years or so that Amazon had the lowest price on a Disney release at least 90% of the time.

Hmmm. This is the least interesting year for Amazon black friday blu-ray. The two titles I would consider are standard def. I'm glad to know what's (not) going to be really cheap this year in order to start my shopping early.

thanks for sharing the link.

But it's a good year for pre-black Friday whining.
