They sure aren't wasting any frakkin time with this. Passed today, goes into effect in 2 f--- months. I guess the only site that doesn't charge me taxes is DD. We get screwed with CH, WBShop and now Amazon. Greedy bastards.l I wonder if I pre-order Cinderella now, will it add on taxes when it ships.

I've been paying tax on Amazon for as long as I can remember. Amazon + tax delivered to my door free still beats $4 gas and time wasted going to a B&M shop.

Yea, right. Fuck You, Combs. Maybe your Friends n' Neighbors need to reduce their prices, instead of taking advantage of being the only store in town, forcing customers to pay a shitload more cash for products who don't know about online ordering.
Bingo.

I thought Amazon closed warehouses (and fired thousand of workers) over this a few years back. Why the fuck are they going back into the state and hiring more people?

California will be interesting. I've always loved how these stupid people in government think everyone shops on Amazon (or online) just because they don't pay tax. Many probably do so because of gas prices and the ridiculous hoops they have to go through just to buy a damn item. No, I don't need 8 people asking me if I need help or if I want a subscription to Maxim magazine or a fucking Best Buy card.

I knew it was just a matter of time before Amazon started charging tax in Texas, but I'm certainly not happy that it's coming so soon! That actually could end up really affecting how I order stuff. I'm thinking about how much money I saved on some big items, like my projector and Blu-ray player, by ordering from Amazon.

Amazon's Texas customers to start paying sales tax
Ronnie Crocker and Purva Patel
Updated 11:35 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2012

Amazon.com will start collecting sales taxes on all online purchases made in Texas beginning July 1 under an agreement that settles a dispute with the state.

Comptroller Susan Combs said the terms address a long-standing complaint by businesses that the online leviathan gets an unfair advantage by not having to assess the tax. She said Texas loses perhaps $600 million a year in potential revenue to Internet sales from all sources.

The deal announced Friday, Combs said, will "level the playing field" with the Web's biggest retailer.

Seattle-based Amazon agreed not only to start collecting sales taxes but also to create at least 2,500 new jobs in Texas over the next four years and make at least $200 million in capital investments in the state.

It was seventh voluntary tax-collection agreement Amazon has reached with a state. The others go into effect between this year and 2016.

In addition, Combs said her office has been working with the Texas congressional delegation about a possible national solution. She predicted federal legislation to address the sales-tax issue for online retailers is forthcoming.

"I think there is a momentum growing for this," she said.
Screw the Texas government. All they are going to do is waste the money.

But anyway, that's another thread I suppose. A very sad day indeed.

Yes, but they are telling people to vote it down so it will be removed. Just don't buy from Amazon during Sept and Oct.

JWSTL: I give up. Just WHAT do you take the sales tax discussion to the Store Forum? I haven't heard that one.

For me it has to do with what I call "Two Sides of the World" (26 miles one way to get to the end of the "Y")think of it like this. 50% of what I need is at one end and 50% of what I need is at the other end. About 40% of the time I cannot fine what I need if anything. I am not talking about a mile or two. I live in the bottom part of a "Y" everything is at the top of the "Y".

I'ts cheaper for me to pay them a shipping fee and have it to my door. FYI, if its ship by the US Mail. I just let it go back. Two hour round tip and they will not bring a box to my door.

Friday's (5/4) DOTD is probably going to be the Star Wars Blu-ray Set. From Facebook:

Our most Chewy-esque office dog is anxiously awaiting Friday's Gold Box Deal of the Day. What do you think it could be?

I'm hoping it's Clone Wars Season 3 instead...I (and probably a large majority of DVDTalkers) already own the movie set.

Uh, slightly confused. Is this the DOTD for tomorrow or Friday? Because the date you give doesn't match the mention of Friday in the description.
