Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I've seen some locations where the clearance stuff is on one side of the 4-sided display. This was the first I encountered where the clearance stuff was elsewhere--it was helpful, though I could have easily missed it if I hadn't seen it since it was in an entirely different part of the store.

1 side would be great! They are all mixed in here with spines facing out.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Visited Big Lots for the first time in awhile. Got the Succession: Season 1 (HBO) Blu-ray set for $10 and the digital code from HBO still works! Says it expires this time next month, so don't hesitate. They had Blu-rays in a couple different spots, which made finding them a bit of a chore. Also picked up a couple $2.99 discs like Misbehavior and Dragonheart Vengeance.

The register also spit out a $10 off $40 coupon.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

During the holiday travels, I came across another new to me title at a store in TN: Anger Management: Season 1 starring Charlie Sheen. It was $3.99 and there was just the single copy on the rack. It's a blind buy for me. After getting home, I noticed the receipt shows "You Don't Mess With The" (#810624620).

I got a $10 off $40 coupon as well. I also received one from a purchase yesterday.

B: The Beginning: Season 1 is an anime that got put out by Shout Factory here in the States. It's from the same animation studio who did Attack On Titan. An adult thriller about superpowered children. Probably worth grabbing at that price.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Saw a few new horror-related titles this week: The Hostel/Hostel II (Mill Creek) & The Gallows are two I recall, but I didn't jot down the prices. Also, I noticed many of the Christmas-related titles had clearance stickers at 50% off their intial price.

One more thing - there were coupons at the register indicting the next 20% off weekend is this Saturday & Sunday.

Blue Jasmine is excellent if you're a Woody Allen as Ingmar Bergman style director fan.

I used mine on a box fan for my external hard drives yesterday. The local BL didn't have any movies I was remotely interested in. BTW, some of the 20% coupons are reusable.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I stacked 3 $15 off $75 rewards coupons with the 20% off coupon to get a stack of 32 qt. Sterilite totes for media storage. The final tally was ~50% off the total making those totes ~$6 each after tax (regular price here is $10.99/each).

These will hold 2 rows of DVDs with a small stack of ~10 more down one side (~100 titles) or *3* rows of BRs (~120 titles). I index what's in the tote, label it, and store it in a spare bedroom with others. You can stack them 10-12 high (~5-6 feet) easily and even full of TV series they're not too heavy.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

News today is that Big Lots may be the latest retail casualty. At least 2 stores in my area are closing now with possibly 4 more to follow. Haven’t bought many movies there recently since I’m COMPLETELY out of shelf space now thanks mostly to all the cheap discs I’ve gotten from them over the years. With fewer discs being made now anyways they likely won’t be able to get as many clearance ones anyways. It was fun while it lasted. Pour another one out.

Will remember them most for the $3 DVDs from MGM, Fox, Universal, HBO back in 2008 - I couldn't get enough of them, all those classics..several still lie sealed :-). The BD's were also well priced in the late 2010's at $3 and $5 with nice clearance prices every now and then. Used to be that they'd also carry some quality grocery labels. Now its all sugary junk mostly.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Once Big Lots became just another ordinary retail outlet following Target and Kohl's, I knew they weren't long for this world. I think they spent a ton of money refurbishing their stores about a decade ago and wondered why they thought they could keep up with places like Walmart.

Looks like Ollie's kind of shoehorned themselves into the space Big Lots used to occupy, running a barebones operation aimed at poorer people.

I will always have fond memories of the great WB DVD dump of 2008 and 2009, which cost me more money than I'd like to admit. I still have pristine copies of practically the entire Hanna-Barbera catalog available on DVD thanks to it.

This may be the beginning of the end but so far they have announced they are closing 10% of their existing stores which is 142 of a total of 1392 nationwide.
https://www.furnituretoday.com/store...t-store-count/

That said, there were only 2 Big Lots within driving distance of me and they both closed in 2023. So store closures were happening before this announcement.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I just went to the Bellingham, WA store and they are in the midst of closing for good with 20% off on all inventory. The media was sparse and mostly picked-through but I bought "Street Smart" DVD (MGM version) for $3.99 with 20% off.

No Texas stores are said to be impacted at this point. There are quite a number of them in about a 30-mile radius where I live. They still seem to stay somewhat busy but not at the level they used to be.
