Arghh, had to jump on the Mummy Trilogy...too hard to pass up. Good price anyway to upgrade to BD.

Ah, had to bite on The Mummy--have the first two on SD and never saw the third. And compulsively added Master and Commander to the order as well.

Master and Commander hit my goldbox today. I had already bought it at UE for $6.99, but now I have a promotional credit on my amazon account, so I said screw-it and re-bought it for $6.64 in credit. I have other stuff I need to take back to UE anyway...

The third Mummy, not a good movie, but one of the best surround mixes that I have heard in years. I'm happy to add it to my collection at this price. Now I'm stuck with a HD-DVD of the first movie.

Strictly speaking not a BD bargain, but Coinstar is having their "annual" promotion where if you purchase a $40 e-gift certificate from one of their machines it will print out a mail-in form for a bonus $10 gift certificate. I've done it the past 2 years and it worked out fine although it did take some time. The offer ends on December 22nd.

On a sidenote I am tempted by Avatar extended which will be $23.27 after Amazon CC rewards. My purchase at Target ended up being $25.22 after taxes and redcard savings. Not sure if less than $2 is worth it although I go to Target at least once a week regardless.

Still not cheap, but cannot believe how many deals creep up unannounced at Amazon in one day!

The coinstar bonus for amazon this year is supposedly only good for toys and games according to coinstar's facebook page and FW.

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

A first just happened to me in all the years I've been using Amazon... my District 9 BD arrived today but it wasn't shrinkwrapped! It only had the sticker at the top of the case unbroken. The plastic on the case itself is wrinkly (looks like it needs to be ironed), though I don't know if that means anything. I've seen many slightly wrinkly plastic before, but this one is really wrinkly.

I'm kinda annoyed because I don't like thinking when I buy a new product that I may be getting used instead, even though the disc itself looks fine. Also, if I changed my mind and wanted to send it back, now I can't because they'd say I opened it when I didn't. I wonder if someone in one of their warehouse decided to take mine home, open it, watch it, and then stick it back in the inventory. I doubt that shrinkwrap falls off all by itself.

Do people think I should complain about this or just let it go?

Avatar was $22.99 at one point when it was a preorder. I'm surprised it hasn't gone done more (since I already bought it from them for $24.99)... oh wait... with the extended return period through January it can't dramatically drop in price until after I could no longer return mine.

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

If you contact them and explain the situation, I'm sure they will send a replacement if that's what you're after. A wrinkly cover usually indicates that an item has been re-shrinkwrapped in a warehouse somewhere. Orignal factory wrap usually doesn't do that to the case (apart from those extra thick Disney combo packs).

I complained to Amazon about copies of Angels & Demons and Hancock that had wrinkled plastic covers like you described, but they sent me replacements that were even more wrinkled than the first. I will be on the lookout for replacement cases, since the OCD in me remains annoyed with this.

EDIT: Apparently, I'm wrong. Though I'd never encountered them before,
wrinkled BD cases seem to be a trend these days - especially with Sony titles:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/hd-talk/577...y-cases-2.html

Still doesn't excuse the missing shrinkwrap.

I've had items arrive with missing shrinkwrap that were for me (non-gifts) - I've contacted Amazon and usually been offered a few dollars refund (depending on the cost of the item).

That blows. I buy a lot of toys, but Amazon hasn't had deals in that area for many years IMO... I can't remember the last time I bought a toy from them...

I just received from Amazon a very expensive hardcover that should have plastic shrinkwrap on it, but was bare. Amazon uses a lot of automated machines to sort and fulfill their orders. My hunch is that occasionally the shrinkwrap gets torn off during that process, and that if the tear is bad enough an Amazon worker will rip off the rest. Amazon offered a refund of 20% to me, or the option of a replacement order and then return the unshrinkwrapped item.

I had a Blu-Ray come from Amazon with a sticker from Wal-Mart on it (it was shrink wrapped). I must say I had never seen that before! The funny thing was the price on the sticker was much higher than what I paid for it.

I cannot say I have had this happen to me. I had Avatar disc 1 that would not play. I called them up and they sent out a whole new set the same day. I did not know you cannot return a open disc to them. You could tell them the disc is bad or just replace the case. They do offer you $20 off the price of the day. So if the item is higher you get the higher price (I had this with a label printer).

I have been waiting forever and 2 days for Exorcism of Emily Rose to drop below ten dollars so I am going to bite.

Sure as soon as I do it the price will drop to 5.44 but whatever. I am past ready to add this one to the blu collection.
