Our video of the trip should be up in the next day or two, and i'll post a direct link when it is. But, i'm going to list my bluray pick-ups here. i'm listing 28, as 2 were titles that i picked up for a friend.

The Ruins
We Own The Night
Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
True Blood (one disc, the last 2 eps +bonus features, what the hell)
Frozen River
Milk
Whatever Works
I've Loved You So Long
Sex And The City (i know, i know, but it's going for 9+ on ebay)
W.
Be Kind Rewind
Prom Night
The International
Saw III
The Wackness
The Informers
The Damned United
The Spirit
Postal
the life before her eyes
Synecdoche New York
Drillbit Taylor
Soul Power
The Rocker
What Just Happened
The Final Destination
An Education
Michael Clayton

Now, obviously alot of these titles I wouldn't have touched at 5.99, but at 2 bucks it's a different story. I have to say I was VERY pleased with my haul. Oh, and I scored 3 Star Wars bobble heads. Anakin, Clone Trooper (HV exclusive), and Boba Fett. So, kickass trip!
Nice haul, Jason Looking forward to your next video, too

Thanks! I'm trying to get it up as soon as possible. It's a mother and really should be a 3 parter, but we're whittling it down to 2, and might upload both parts back to back so there's little waiting for the reveal.

Re: Movie Gallery Closings

I just went to my HW Video. For over 3 solid weeks their prices had remained unchanged at $5.99 for BDs and 50% off games. I bought nothing at those prices and the last time I called them was last Saturday. Apparently Sunday morning they jumped to $3.99 for BDs and 70% off games with nothing in between, and I forgot to call them until today. In those few days they went from 3 very large BD sections to half of 1 large BD section. I picked up 14 at $3.99 realizing that they'd all be gone by the time they hit $1.99 and there's nothing left I want to make it worth coming back again. I live in a populated area where even mediocre BDs won't last long at low prices.

For $3.99 each I got these BDs: Be Kind Rewind, Michael Clayton, Post Grad, Fame (new), Lyme Life, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, Easy Virtue, Management, Labor Pains, The Reaping, My Bloody Valentine 3D (2nd disc missing of course), 50 Dead Men Walking, The Other Man, The Signal.

All except the first 3 were blind buys. I sure hope I don't regret them. If I don't like them, there's really nowhere to sell them to get my $3.99 + tax back as FYE offers so little on just about everything that's more than a few months old (BDs included). It's one of those few instances where I wish I had a phone with a Internet data plan so I could read reviews, but then I'd be in the store for hours.

I passed on these $3.99 BDs: The Rocker, Frozen River, W., Obsessed, Megafault, Transmorphers: Fall of Men, I've Loved You So Long, Mutants.

Re: Movie Gallery Closings

Ok, so pt.1 of the video is up. Enjoy! And my advice after this trip would be -- Find every HV/MG within a 2 hr. driving distance of where you live ASAP. Watch the video, and especially pt.2 when it's up (that's when we break down the haul and the numbers). They're closing all the last stores now. Don't miss out if there are any stores left. I know the MG in Marion NC is still open. I've found that the better prices are to be had at the HV...so far. That will likely change as the last of the MG close. So, anywho here's the link to pt.1 of our on the rd. adventure...

T-mobile prepaid ($100 card gives you 1000 mins and 1 year of service and up until July 31st bing gives you 35% cb on card, and then you only need to top up $10 or more each year) has free t-zones, but you can get virtually unlimited internet for free too (search howard's forums). Just an option if you are a casual cell phone user who doesn't text alot, but want internet access.

Alot of solid picks there. I wish I had picked up My Bloody Valentine 3D when I had the chance.

Re: Movie Gallery Closings

FYI
Hollywood video in Trenton, NJ (206) is closing tomorrow (sunday). I went there this afternoon. They only had 8 blu-rays left, and I bought 3 (for $2.99 each). The remaining blus were Synechdoche New York (sorry about the spelling), Milk, I've Loved You So Long, and Rudi y Cursi. There was a bigger selection of dvds, with newer releases being 10 for $20 and older ones 10 for $10 (or something like that).

Gonna be trading in some older dvds I either upgraded to blu or dont want anymore at my flea market and hopefully walk out with another couple of nice blu titles... now its time to pick up some cases online... might need 50 just in case

Re: Movie Gallery Closings

Hollywood Video in Madison, AL closing today - virtually no BRs left, but I got BRs of Surrogates, X-Files IWTB, District 9, Damned United for 49 cents each. The deal there is 20 DVDs for $10, so once you hit 20 everything above that is 49 cents each. Spent 90 minutes waiting in line, and getting check out as there were folks in line with huge tubs of disks. Checkout is very slow while they remove the locking tabs, scan disks, and then reprice each disk. Staff is working very hard, kudos to them for their effort on their last day.

Movie Gallery in Madison, AL has BRs down to $4.99. I bought Slumdog Millionaire in a BR case, and it even has the digital copy disk and code. Good selection still, I think they are bringing in stuff from other stores. DVDs are $2.49 and $3.99 with discounts for buying 5 or more.

Wow.. great haul there on the blu rays... I picked up a few more last night from an out of town MG... cant remember everything, but a few were Julie and Julia, Harry Potter (newest), Stepfather, and about 6 more

Then picked up some more ASIP Christmas discs for flipping purposes

Wish I had found Zombieland and Step Brothers... it looked like the location I went to was the dump for other stores in the area that had extra merchandise after closing down, I recall seeing quite a few blus from the location I went to saturday morning... its just that they were now a couple bucks more

Re: Movie Gallery Closings

I made it to a store that was a long way away.. 150 miles.. but we stopped on the way to our cabin.. Luckily they had a lot of stock left.. but they were still 5 bucks.. I had to jump on them cause I was not sure if I would be back into town before they closed.

so I picked up

Deadline
the Informers
Coraline 2 disc.. actually came with the dvd.. I was shocked.
up in the air
50 dead men walking
the Soloist
street kings
Slumdog Millionaire
Halloween II
the Express
Valkyrie -- fricking rental edition.. didn't notice until i got to our cabin err!
District 13

and then today we picked up a bunch of dvds.. cause their blu section was pretty gone.. but did get

whatever works.

props to you guys with the great scores..

only 1 question.

How do we get the marked #'s off the disc? I tried goo gone and it is not easy at all. Actually starts taking the stuff we want left on the disc too!

That's too bad about #s on your discs. Not sure anything will take those off without ruining anything else. At my local store only games had writing on the discs.

Really nice haul. Alot of titles not seen at the other stores. I picked up 10 docs at 7.50 too. That's about as fun as the Blurays. Perhaps because it's a DVD for .75.

Howdy all. Just uploaded a new video addressing the whole issue of replacement cases for our MG/HV hauls. Feel free to comment on our vid with websites that have awesome deals on BD cases.

Thanks for the videos. It's too bad you never got to film the chaos in the stores, but they probably wouldn't allow that. You got far better titles for better prices than were available in my area, but you were willing to drive hours to probably less populated areas whereas I was only I willing to drive an extra 10 miles in a highly populated area.

I ordered a set of 40 "Viva Elite" BD cases from Discmakers when I thought I was done with HW Video, but I ended up getting another dozen BDs and I'm bummed Discmakers only sells a minimum of 25 which would come to a couple bucks more than your Bay520 guy for 20 cases... still a better deal I think.

The other bummer with Discmakers is you have to order 25 of each type of case rather than just 25 cases. I really need 15 singles, 7 doubles, and 3 quadruples, but Discmakers requires you to order 25 of each and charges you shipping like each were a separate order. I don't suppose anyone has a solution for buying low quantities of these?

It would be cool if someone on DVD Talk wanted to be a middleman... buying from Discmakers in huge quantities and then allowing people to buy smaller amounts for a more reasonable shipping fee while still making enough profit to make it worthwhile.

Re: Movie Gallery Closings

Here's another thing that bummed me out at these HW Video sales. Because I have occasionally had success at a few Blockbuster stores asking "do you happen to have any extra PS3 or Xbox 360 cases you don't need?" I asked about these and Blu-Ray cases at each closing HW Video each time I was checking out. Every time I got to hear the stories how within the first 1-2 weeks they knew they were closing that they threw out massive numbers of BD, DVD, game cases, Ethernet cables, and other stuff in the dumpsters. Oh how I wish I had known and gotten in on just 1 of those dumpsters. Since then they tell me they haven't had a single extra anything, and whatever gets damaged out they have to send back to the liquidator (cases included).
