Re: Amazon.com Discounts and Deals on Blu-ray
It's a nice idea, but that's not it. This is stuff from Amazon itself.
If you're not experiencing it, then you are not noticing the prices as much as you think you are, or you are somehow incredibly lucky. Put 20 Blu-rays in your cart, and "save [them] for later." Go back once a day and see what prices have changed (view the cart and Amazon will tell you in red at the top of the screen). Or just go to Blu-ray.com or camelcamelcamel and check any graph of the prices for more evidence.

Ok, my bad. I didn't realize how widespread this complaint is. I guess I don't have a habit of putting things in my cart and leaving them in there for later. I maintain a wishlist of Blu-rays, but I don't check it nearly often enough to know how much the prices are fluctuating on a day-to-day basis.
Checking my Amazon cart daily has scored me dozens of titles that I never would have known were going on sale.
Amazon's policy of pricematching all kinds of retailers and constantly changing their prices is a very good thing for us.

Quo Vadis down to $10.99. Not to rub it in for anyone else, but I'm so glad I haven't jumped on this yet; the price decreases every day, it seems.

I wouldn't call it a complaint, I'd call it one of the greatest things since sliced bread.

Seems like it'd be a logistical nightmare (never mind the cost) to have both the fluctuation and the protection--continual $1 to $2 refunds.

Ah, but there you have it. They don't have protection on anything but pre-orders. Someone would literally have to re-order the item and return the other item to save the money, and I think most people are too lazy to do that. What a pain for $1 or $2.

I kind of enjoy the "thrill of the hunt" on Amazon honestly. Finding things you like and then keeping up on them so you can buy them at the exact right moment.
Sure it would be great if they had their absolute lowest prices on there all the time but that just doesn't seem realistic--I kind of think their fluctuations (some of which I think go to cost--or below, hnece why they would be unrealistic as full time prices) are designed to stimulate interest. Keep people on the site. And it works, in my case anyway. The potential for a bargain is so good I check things every day.

We can't expect Amazon to keep things at their lowest price continually. They, and most businesses honestly, are built on continual price fluctuations due to supply, sales, and price-matching competitors.
We just notice Amazon's fluctuations more because they are perhaps the most used etailer here, and they are more aggressive with their price matching.
No nightmare at all, I don't pre-order from Amazon and have never had to deal with these refunds.

How is it even remotely a problem when Amazon gives you back a buck or two? If having Amazon send you a buck or two is what counts as a "logistical nightmare" for you, I want your life. Or, alternately, if you're so poor that a buck or two makes a huge difference in your budget, you probably should be spending your money on other things than Blu-Rays.

I'm thinking anazon might have changed their policy partly because of the logistics for *them* to have to monitor every single DVD purchase for 30 days and send out refunds. Sure, it'd be automated as their pre-order system (presumably) is now, but still that'd be a ton of activity, and all at a loss (for them). As Trevor said, I think overall it's a gain for us, and I agree it must benefit them to have people checking their shopping carts every day.

And it would be if they had both going at the same time, all they would do is refund money all the time

The post 30 day price guarantee was never automated before, but it definitely is frustrating without it, especially with a significant price drops. I recently purchased a refurb Kindle from Amazon for $139.99, and the next day it dropped to $109.99. I shot them an email requesting a price match, was immediately denied, so I reordered at the new price and returned the higher price Kindle. How was this beneficial to Amazon? Certainly it was worth my time to get $30 back, and to me any reasonable business would not have both a 30 day return guarantee, but not a 30 day price guarantee.

Returning orders after buying the same item for $1 or $2 less wont save you a dime. In fact, it will cost you money.
Amazon has a re-stock fee for returned items unless the item has been recalled by Amazon or the manufacturer. While the fee is nominal, it is usually a few bucks, which would automatically negate any savings realized on the cheaper order.
Bottom line is unless its a significant price drop on a specific item, I dont think its worth the hassle.

I don't think there's a restocking fee if you buy directly from Amazon, but I could be wrong. They'll definitely make you eat the shipping costs if there's nothing wrong with the item though.

Yeah getting tired of this thread being the "Bitch about losing a $1 or $2 to Amazon" thread. Get over it if you bought it in the first place it must have been a reasonably good enough price for you to want it at that price in the first place...
Seems like Amazon might be the best option for Kick Ass. Still not sure I want to blind buy it at $22.99 though.

How about no one post anything other than deals in this thread for a while? No more posts complaining about how no one is posting deals? No more posts asking people to stop posting?

Where is this listed? I have never had a re-stock fee with Amazon.
