[Maybe not this year or next year, but someday?]
There's never going to be a "firmware update" to change this. It's due to a fundamental difference between how DVDs and BD-J discs are authored and played back.

As Easy's mention of Avatar's feature points out, any resume/bookmarking feature can be enabled by the disc itself. Studios need to program it in when authoring the discs though.

You paid that for the Blu-ray? If so, I'm sorry I missed it.

I kind of feel bad for target. They had some great movies at great prices this week and amazon matches them a half week in advance stealing their thunder.

Target could easily respond. It's not like Blu-rays are their bread n butter there.

I think amazon was matching best buy's ad this week, which seems to be most of the stuff that's in targets ad next week.

EDIT!
Just checked.. Amazon does have 2012 for 12 bucks which is targets price next week.. I will get it at target tho.

It was just MSRP drops that Amazon did right away instead of waiting for retailers to catch up (remember, they plan on weekly ads well into a month ahead).

Not really, like Gizmo said they have their ads printed out and planned well in advance. Amazon can do these things essentially at the last second. There's really no one way for Target to do something except say an in-store correction to ad sign and they would NEVER do that unless it is a pricing mistake that would be a financial loss for them. They simply do not pricematch online prices(per pricematch rules, although some might get them to) and they really do not need to.

I've spent some time in the newspaper advertising industry, and I know that national circulars are dropped off at the distribution centers for sorting roughly two, sometimes three, weeks in advance. They keep them under lock and key, shrink-wrapped in a cell similar to the Battlestar brig, well before they actually toss 'em in the Sunday edition.

That means they set sale prices sometimes a month in advance, since they've got to design the circular and print them before they're sent off.

Maybe now when I worked for the OC Register we used to get them anywhere from that week to two weeks a head of time. Yes I used by base my buying food and other stuff knowing what was going on sale. I do remember like the others have said that most adds are done way a head of time.

It takes time to lay out, time to print, time to move them to the paper, time to move them to the offices, time to put them in to the paper. Where Amazon could be done in less time then it took me to type this.

I do see sometime very soon no paper printed ads and all the ads online.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon pre-order is down to $16.99. Not a bargain yet but that's the lowest it's been.

The Mask of Zorro is $12.49. I'm hoping for a lower price on Black Friday.

It's part of the Godzilla sale going on now, some good deals on the SD Godzilla DVDs, but the original Godzilla movie on Blu-ray doesn't appear to be included in the sale.

FWIW, Columbia House members can pre-order this title for $14.97. Shipping is free if you use this code-20100609AET1D1- by midnight tonight. CH also doesn't collect sales tax in my state.
