That's the thing about Anime, there's almost always something risque in just about every show. It's been a while since I watched HMM and I certainly remember that there was some fan service in it, but I recall it as being an overall sweet show. Angelic Layer, Kamichu, Petite Princess Yucie and Strawberry Marshmallow are definitely safe shows(as well as being very good).

You'll probably want to pass on Gantz.

Although no official statement has been made, word of mouth around town is that ADV is having some serious financial problems remarkably similar to Geneon. I know a couple ppl who worked there that are now looking for jobs. So they seemed to have let go of most of their staff in recent weeks and sold off some of their key dvd properties (Funimation to the rescue?)

Isn't this old news in terms of properties. They will never publicly announce that they are in financial troubles. ADV Films lost all of their titles under Sojitz / Arm. Other ADV titles that is going OOP include 5cm Per Second and Innocent Venus. And previously they lost Gurren Lagann to Bandai Entertainment. Most of those Sojitz / Arm properties were rescued by FUNimation, which was announced during AX 2008. It has already been revealed that FUNimation will be releasing Kanon, Vol.6 and Devil May Cry (Vol.1, 2, 3) in October. More will be released after October. The properties that were rescued include the following:

009-1
Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy
Air Gear
Air movie
Air TV
Blade of the Phantom Master
Comic Party: Revolution
Coyote Ragtime Show
Devil May Cry
Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor TV
Jing, King of Bandits: Seventh Heaven
Jinki:Extend
Kanon
Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora (Shattered Angels)
Le Chevalier D'Eon
Magikano
Moeyo Ken TV
Moonlight Mile
Murder Princess
Nerima Daikon Brothers
Pani Poni Dash!
Project Blue Earth SOS
Pumpkin Scissors
Red Garden
Sgt. Keroro 1st & 2nd
Tokyo Majin
UFO Princess Valkyrie
Utawarerumono
Venus Versus Virus
The Wallflower

I would not necessarily call them rescued. Generally, I see the term "rescued" usually used when a company willingly drops a license (ex. Bandai dropping Love Hina and then FUNimation "rescuing" it). This is more of a case where Sojitz / Arm thinks that Funi can better handle their properties than ADV. So, they took them back from ADV and gave them to FUNimation. I would not equate "willingly" with ADVs role in the situation.

I would guess it was back in early Spring, when everything got quiet from ADV, that Sojitz / Arm told ADV that they were unsatisfied with ADV and that they were going to explore other options.

Is "Perfect Blue" OOP? I checked few sites and it seems that no one has them available in their stock.

I did a quick check and Deep Discount, DVD Planet, and Amazon all have it In Stock. I would say it is not OOP.

I just saw Death Note recently... Very unique series - I enjoyed first 3 discs, but it seems like they changed direction on disc 4 and 5. It seems it got little bored when
Spoiler:
Light and L are going after a corporate that uses Death Note
. I hope it gets exciting when disc 6 and 7 come out.

One thing that bothered me that they showed a spoiler in main menu (where the second Kira was captured) that I haven't seen that part. They shouldn't have put it there.

What in the world? They must have added that to the anime, I don't remember anything like that in the manga. The storyline does "jump the shark" at one point, though it's pretty obvious as there's a huge transition.

Hey all, is there an Anime Buy/Sell/Trade thread? I noticed that Wal-Mart Canada has big end caps of random anime DVDs right now where all the titles are 4.88. I picked up three volumes (1,2,6) of Mobile Fighter G-Gundam.

I'd like to try and find some more volumes of it, but I'm not sure if I can find other Canadians to check Wal-Marts for me, or if some boardmembers might have it for sale or trade.

I'm a casual Anime fan and generally watch:

Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Escaflowne
Outlaw Star
Gundam Wing
Yu Yu Hakusho
DB/DBZ/DBGT

I figured the 4.88 sale was a good place to grab some other stuff cheap...

There's an anime bargain thread in DVD Bargain forum (this link will take you there: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=536819). You can get all information on special deals on anime DVDs.

Here is the link to the DVD Exchange Forum here @ DVD Talk. That is the only place here for Buy/Sell/Trade.

Mania.com / AoD:

FUNimation's upcoming release of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles in September has come in and some interesting tidibts are revealed in their Anime Source: Blu-ray Edition pamphlet. Similar to the Anime Source pamphlet's in their DVD releases, this one is dedicated to their high definition Blu-ray releases. Afro Samurai is the cover piece for it and they highlight other releases and the upcoming Dragon Ball Z releases and Vexille. The also provide a great little timeline of releases up through 11/11/2008 of this year with what's formally announced. They have added in a wonderful little tease though that will excite many. Coming soon with no dates yet:
  • Samurai 7 Complete Series Box Set
  • Genghis Khan - To The End of the Earth and Sea
  • One Piece - Movie 8: The Desert Princess and the Pirates - Adventures in Alabasta
Samurai 7 would mark the first anime TV series planned for release in the US as everything else has been OVAs or movies unless you count the short run Afro Samurai series.
...I believe Shigurui: Death Frenzy is actually the first anime TV series planned for release in the US.

It caught me in disbelief seeing it in person!

Out of curiosity, did anyone else's Death Note 6 LE Rem figure come with two little white strips in a tiny plastic bag taped to the base? They look like tape or stickers. Any idea what those are for? I don't think any of the other figures had them.

My copy had that as well. I'm sure that it wasn't with the previous deluxe editions.
