Still enjoying the game although the underwater portions are a pain and there's no clear way to see where the plans are.

This happens in later levels as well. When in doubt, go out to sea.

And the companion app is <u>only</u> for tablets (I believe iPad, Android, and some Windows ones).

The forts are pretty easy once you upgrade your ship, especially your mortars (the gun you see when you press L1). I have my ship almost entirely upgraded (everything is maxed to level below elite)...
