I think these developers are all going to the same well -- I don't know how long before it dries right up. If any of these games end up sucking, that'll be the end of Kickstarting games, I predict.
Personally, I have nostalgia for none of these games currently seeking funding. I kicked in to Double Fine at the last minute because I've liked their games this generation as well as Psychonauts. I just don't know if any of these other ones are going to be worth $15 to me sight-unseen.
Any opinions or explanations from current backers would be appreciated before the funding windows close.

I've backed wasteland 2, shadowrun returns and FTL
I backed wasteland 2 because it was the spiritual predecessor to 2 of my favorite isometric cprg. Wasteland 2 is going to be in the same vein. This is going to be the fallout 3 that we all wanted (no offense to the fps fallouts, I like those as well). Also chris avellone is now attached to the project, getting the black isle gang back together from when deep game play was on the pc.
Shadowrun was backed because it is also going to be another cprg action game. I have fond memories of the sr games on super Nintendo and genesis, not to mention the pnp game setting.
Both the Weismann and fargo projects are coming from guys that have put out some of greatest settings/games. Weissman had mech warrior and shadowrun, Fargo has bards tale and fallout, throw in avellone who was the genius behind ice wind dale, planesscape torment, and you just have all sorts of awesome if you like turn based. Also Weismann says shadowrun will feel like X-Com which is another mega popular title.
FTL? The gameplay sold me, and some of the other details. Unless a kickstarter is by someone that I somewhat trust, the it is up to the kickstarter to prove it to me.

On current kickstarter projects, I am this close to backing banner saga, not sold just based on who is doing it, but the cel animation style reminds me of dragon lair and it's a rpg
A couple of others that look interesting:
Dead linger
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...r?ref=category
Looks interesting a fps zombie apocalypse sandbox game
Ravaged
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...d?ref=category
Madmax vehicle warfare, also looks interesting gameplay looks great

Initial investments (to get the actual game). Are Both higher 25$, so im going to have really be convinced to take the gamble. Safer bet at 15$ with Fargo than it is 25$ for the dead linger guys.
It's entirely possible to lose you money

I also love the kick back initative that Fargo started, 5% of profits will back to help out other kick starting projects, seems like many folks are pledging the same

Jane Jensen (Gabriel Knight, King's Quest VI) has started a kickstarter promising a year's worth of games from her studio (at least two):
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...-2012-2013-csg
She has 3 proposals up for the first game; people who pledge at least $16 by 9pm EST on Friday, April 13th will receive a concept document for the game and will vote for which one(s) get made.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
I mentioned it in the Double Fine kickstarter page a couple weeks ago, but a Tex Murphy kickstarter project is going to launch on May 15th. Looking forward to that.
I'm going back and forth on whether to back the Leisure Suit Larry remake. I've already purchased the first remake of that game, and even though it's been 20 years, I don't know if I want to buy it again. I guess it's just like double dipping DVDs/BDs and I've done that on many occasions. They mention if they reach their goal they plan to add more stuff to the game. Might be worth it just for that.

Great thread Jay. Although my wife probably hates you now.
My problem is that I'm an absolute sucker for exclusive fun bonuses like names in credits and limited edition soundtrack CDs AND for nostalgia/holding onto my past. It's almost as if Kickstarter itself was designed to take my money. Between video games, music, and board games I'm finding dozens of projects tempting me.

I'm sticking with just Double Fine and Wasteland 2 for now. It's possible a lot of these might end up sucking, and as much as I love Leisure Suit Larry and Gabriel Knight, i'm less willing to drop money unseen on their projects.

I found one that brought back memories. Chuck's Challenge 3D is a follow-up to an old Atari Lynx ( and many other systems later) game that I loved, Chip's Challenge.

Just backed Banner Saga, only 3 days left on that one, in the end, the style of gameplay along with the cel animation was enough to throw 10$ into the kitty.
Also Wasteland 2 just got funded, and with paypal hit the 3 million mark I believe.
If we can get a Starflight/Master of Orion/Star Control Kickstarter, I will buy into those!

Some of the guys who created Titan Quest founded a new company after Iron Lore went under. They're working on another game called Grim Dawn, which will be in a similar style. Titan Quest was one of the better Diablo-esque games that's come out in the past few years.

New article highlighting the risks of backing a Kickstarter, and what to look for in a project before committing your money:
http://penny-arcade.com/report/edito...campaigns-are-
The guy in the article specifically calls out the Police Warfare Kickstarter as being a risky project to back, mainly because they don't appear to be asking for enough money to realistically make the game they're pitching.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
That's a possibility.
From the FAQ for the LSL remake:
Also, from an article I previously linked to about LSL:
Happy As Larry: Al Lowe On Remaking His Classic Game
So the LSL remake looks like a possible launching pad for remakes/sequels for all those Sierra series.
From the FAQ for the LSL remake:
I love the Sierra classics!! Can you bring back King's Quest, Space Quest, or Police Quest?
Our good friends over at Tell Tale have licensed King's Quest from Activision. If we do our job right then maybe, just MAYBE we'll be able to partner with them and ruinite the Space Quest team, King's Quest team (go Roberta!!!!) and Police Quest team for re-makes or new versions of those (Space Quest 7 anybody?)

Happy As Larry: Al Lowe On Remaking His Classic Game
[Paul Trowe]: I’ve been trying to remake the Sierra classics since they’ve been lost in the hands of various companies like Vivendi and Havas and Universal, and now Activision. So I approached Activision to do remakes of all the games, and I wanted to acquire rights to Leisure Suit Larry, King’s Quest, Police Quest and Space Quest, games I grew up beta testing.
