Re: Shadow of the Eternals aka Eternal Darkness 2 (Wii U, PC 2013)

I got excited at the "2013" in the subject header, only to find this right at the top of the quoted article:

When do you plan to release?
Q3 2014.

Looks like this is going to be a Kickstarter campaign.

Yeah...the thread title needs updating. But it's great to hear that this will finally be coming out.

Apparently this will NOT be a Kickstarter project, instead the dev will be crowd funding it themselves because they are not in the US or UK. Bit of a red flag, that is.

I was almost excited about this news, then remembered this article: http://kotaku.com/5955223/what-went-...-x+men-destiny. If they get funding and actually produce a game that gets decent word-of-mouth, I'll happily buy it. No way I'm giving them money upfront though.

Okay I'll do my own research...

It seems Silicon Knights proper isn’t involved in the project, but a new studio — Precursor Games — founded by some of the original members that created Eternal Darkness, will be heading the project. So, at least the spiritual successor is in good hands.

All of the record-breaking video game Kickstarters have been PC only.

I will pay $60 for a crowdfund if it entitles me to a copy of the game.

I'm bummed to see SK and Dyack aren't involved.

I dunno, with the second screen they could come up with some unique sanity effects.

The original was a Nintendo published game, right? They probably retain some rights to the franchise, but I'm not sure how the PC port would work.

Re: Shadow of the Eternals aka Eternal Darkness 2 (Wii U, PC 2013)

Since it was in question, according to Joystiq:

The pilot is scheduled to hit PC and Wii U in Q3 2014, and the entire project has Eternal Darkness director Denis Dyack as Precursor's chief creative officer.

Funding on this is not exactly picking up momentum on day one. I think $1.5 million may be pushing it, especially without the visibility and security of Kickstarter.

Developing the episodes for only two platforms, one being the Wii U which only a very small percentage of people even own or care about, isn't helping either. If they don't have plans of porting this over to PS4 & the next Xbox, it's going to be a failure (if it even ends up hitting it's funding goal).

I loved Eternal Darkness but have a strong distrust of Denis Dyack, so...I'm torn.

Same here. LOVED Eternal Darkness, played through it multiple times to get the complete ending. But that guy is not getting a single cent from me...

It's too bad Alex Roivas, AKA the sexiest videogame character in the history of videogames, will not be returning.

Re: Shadow of the Eternals aka Eternal Darkness 2 (Wii U, PC 2013)

A bit more context:
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/201...ls_development
Last last year, Kotaku reported that Silicon Knights was on its last legs, crippled by mismanagement. The blame was laid squarely at the door of founder Denis Dyack, who has since left the company and joined Precursor Games — which is hard at work at the Wii U title Shadow of the Eternals.

Dyack was accused of being heavy-handed with staff, embezzling money and neglecting projects — such as X-Men Destiny — to focus on Eternal Darkness 2. He has now released a video responding to Kotaku's claims, stating that:
I've got to do something about this, because it's affecting me, it's affecting my colleagues at Precursor Games, and it's affecting the community that wants to see this game get made.
Dyack is adamant that the claims made in Kotaku's feature are entirely groundless, and the reason he didn't respond to them at the time is because be didn't think anyone would believe them.
Here's the 30+ minute (!!) video response:

Here's the original Kotaku article:
