Hall effect sticks and reviews seem good so I copped one to try out.

If you were waiting for new color Joy Cons for the Switch 2, the good news is Nintendo finally released a pair in a new color scheme -- kinda.

Cool. Odd that it’s those colors and nothing that’s tied in to any kind of release.
Just kind of odd.
I think it’ll take a lot for me to buy a second pair of joycon this time around. Considering how little I need more than two and that you can use old joycon.
Maybe if they ever go on some kind of mega sale/clearance for ~$50.

Yikes. Switch 2 sales were down 35% for Nov - Dec compared to the same period during the Switch 1’s first holiday.
Combine that with the fact that, at least for Nov, the PS5 outsold the Switch 2. And things are really not going Nintendo’s way. Plus what’s on the release schedule for 2026? Considering we had a new MK, and incredible and well received DK and a hotly anticipated MP4 that’s about as much of a system seller release as you could hope for outside of a Mario, Zelda or Smash game.
I’m wondering if we’re going to be looking at a GameCube like generation going from a technologically solid but underpowered system to a vastly superior system with some amazing games for fans but terrible financial returns for Nintendo?
Clearly pricing the Switch 2 so high in this economy is hurting their market share. But if they can’t even beat the PS5 as old as it is and more importantly how similarly expensive it is they could really be facing an uphill battle.
Im super curious now to see how MP4 did S1 vs S2.

It might have undersold during thr Holidays, but to be fair it sold REALLY well at launch, and was much more readily available than the Switch was when it initially launched. I only think it's fair to compare first year sales with the S1, not just November (which was the first time I ever saw Switch 1's in the stores).

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Vgchartz is not a reliable source. I’d wait until Circana releases their numbers. There’s certainly enough smoke for me to believe that December wasn’t a banner month for the Switch 2, but I can’t say I’m worried about the future of the system.
It had an incomparably successful launch (literally the fastest selling console ever), and Nintendo produced enough hardware that we never really saw it vanish from store shelves the way we did for the original Switch (and most consoles, really) in its early months.
It makes sense to me that momentum would’ve slowed: there were more opportunities to get one prior to the holidays, it’s expensive in a time of economic…errr… ::gestures wildly::, the biggest games released around the holidays were cross-gen, and the current exclusives are well-received but aren’t seismic on the order of Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey.
The much heftier price tag is definitely a limiting factor, and I shudder to think what further increases in component prices (with what the AI gold rush is doing to RAM and SSDs) might result in. But I am optimistic that the Switch 2 has a bright future ahead of it if Nintendo has a strong slate of games and if prices are able to be kept in check. I’m skeptical that it’ll reach the heights of the original Switch, but I can’t picture it being a GameCube or Wii U.

All very good points. I’m not predicting doom and gloom. This is all just discussion.
I agree with taking the whole year into consideration but one of the big reasons why the S1 was so successful is that it actually expanded the video game audience. A whole bunch of people picked it up that wouldn’t pick up a video game console otherwise. A large part of that is how cheap it was. A much easier quick buy.
Quick initial sales were always inevitable. The fans like us were pretty much always going to buy it. But slowing sales at the holidays. Especially if the similarly priced PS5 outsold it could be an indication of some bad news. Yeah the economy is bad yeah it has an uphill battle with the price being high. But if families that had the money decided to pick up an old PS5 instead of a shiny new Switch 2 that’s a problem.

There's nothing revolutionary about the Switch 2 (as there was with Switch 1) which would also explain it not being as hot a commodity.
That aside, I've been playing Split Fiction with my sister remotely and man what a great game! Wish it had some sort of single player mode but even without it, good good stuff.

Nope. Same with It Takes Two, you have to play it coop. That's the only way.
There is a system in place to play the game co-op remotely and it comes with a code to allow one person to do that. That's what RichC2 is probably doing.

Yeah - It isn't a code for Split Fiction though, the person that owns the game just has to invite the other person in, but it isn't tied down to a single person.
The only downside is the game is like 70gb that both parties need to have installed which is quite substantial for a Switch 2.
...But I get it, the amount of variety in the game is insane, some individual chapters could have been expanded out into full games.

My 16yo son and I are playing it locally on a PS5. Great game. I have two other sons out of state with PS5s we could tag team on. One of which owns the game.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
The fact that they actually discounted the bundles during Black Friday really surprised me... I had bought at launch mainly because I thought they would be harder to come by to get them by Xmas and maybe the tariffs would increase the costs. I resisted opening them until Christmas (for the kids) and really didn't feel like I missed out on much... we still played a ton of switch 1 games in the meantime. They love Mario Kart but we haven't even touched Donkey Kong or Metroid yet (Ball X Pit and Pokemon has been getting the most play, and both are available on switch 1).
Anecdotally there really was no reason to "switch" but there will be eventually so I hope it's not causing too much stress at Nintendo (though some downward pressure on their prices and/or the keycard decision wouldn't be the worst thing in the world)

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
My kids each have a Switch 2 and I've mentioned their difficulty accessing our digital library, we had to get my daughters in the same room to link up the primary and secondary accounts locally before the Switch 2 secondary could access the game library.
Little did I know that they implemented the same requirement on my Switch 1, so I don't have access to play the digital copies until I can link with the other Switch 2 locally. I have a handful of cartridges so I'm not prevented from playing Kirby or Mario or whatever, but I was finishing up Yoshi before this restriction was put in, so I'll have to wait a few months before I can meet up with my daughter again. Would have been nice to find this out a month ago when we were all together.

If the digital purchases are on another account, I believe only two switches/switch 2s can be linked at one time via the gamecard sharing mechanism but I'm sure someone can point out if that's changed.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Yeah, my Switch is shared with the daughter with a secondary account, I'm not sure you can have two primary Switches, but didn't try that. Before it would limit us to only one playing a digital game at a time which was annoying but could work. But now it won't let me access my digital games until I link the Switch and Switch 2 together. Once I do that, I should be back in business again and able to play. But I should look into whether I can have a Switch 1 and Switch 2 on the primary account.

So bear with me:
There is a method to "share" digital games using virtual cards, and only two systems can be so linked. As long as the primary user who bought the games is loaded on those systems, any user can play the digital games (one at a time)
There is another method that allows a third system to play those games, "using an online license" but is only usable by the primary user (the one who bought the games), much like how it worked before (except you still can't play a game someone else is playing with a virtual card). You enable this method only on the systems you want. You don't "load the virtual card" on these systems but instead Download the Data.
