re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Both models had the same plastic screen cover, yes. Any model Switch can be permanently damaged by coins or keys or anything else harder than plastic.

I honestly have no idea why Nintendo thought it needed to mention to not take this one off. I can't even see the edge of it to begin peeling, even if I wanted.

so, you are putting it on over the film or no? if you can't peel it off, what are you going to do?

Stop thinking of it as a "film". It's the screen. Treat it no different than the original Switch.

if there was a film/screen protector on SW1, i must have forgot, but I did put a 3rd party glass protector on it. So, Noonan, what is the best way to take this screen protector off SW2 so you can put a tempered glass protector on (since you said you could not find how or where to take it off)?

You don't. You put the glass protector right on top like you did with the Switch 1.

Mine arrived yesterday....still sitting sealed. I'm debating keeping it. I had FOMO with not getting the first switch on release day so I think that fed into my preordering one this go 'round.

I'm not sure I have played my Switch 1 enough to "want" this one enough to play on a daily basis sadly.

If it waa the 80's I would have gone crazy for it

If i had kids I might buy it for them but playing games is a lot harder with more buttons to press compared to the NES in the 80's and don't want to play videogames all the time like I did back then.

You are threadcapping and bringing up those fucking games in a video game thread?

Wish I could use the Johnny Cash finger meme on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That hadn't occurred to me, but you're probably right. As I had said at time of pre-order, it didn't really make a lot of sense to order the system and not the bundle, since there are no other Switch 2 exclusive full games to play at launch. I know not everyone is going to want to own MKW with their Switch 2, but the attachment rate had to be sky high, and $30 is a pretty significant savings.

I did wonder about game ownership -- on the graphics box, the game is kind of tied to the console (but not, as the sales girl told me when she offered me my choice of boxes yesterday, already downloaded to the console). But I checked online and Nintendo thinks I now own MKW so I guess it ends up the same as if they had given me a code to redeem.

No. Those were pictures of USB ports on Switch docks.

I didn't realize I have like $350 in GS credit. I may stroll over there to see if they have any systems. I don't need it but hey, why not. Doubt they do but can hurt to check

  • Best Buy - Pro controller and microSD Express card have shipped and should be here tomorrow
  • Target - Switch 2 is 'preparing to ship'; estimated delivery by 6/11 (and I imagine it'll be here a couple days sooner than that, but still probably the last of the major retailers to fulfill anything)
Yesterday, I got half of my Walmart order (Switch 2 + pro controller) as well as the pro controller and microSD Express card from Best Buy. The wheels from Walmart are out for delivery this afternoon. The Target order is supposed to be here tomorrow. That just leaves Mario Kart World, which Walmart still says will be here today, but it hasn't shipped, and it doesn't seem like there are any copies at Walmarts locally, so...we'll see! If I get squirrelly, I might try to scrounge up a copy from another store, but I'm not in any desperate rush.

Safe to assume I'm the only one here who will prioritize Yakuza 0 Director's Cut over MKW or anything else?

It definitely caught my eye, especially as a jumping-on point for a first-timer who's equal parts fascinated and intimidated by the size/scale of the franchise.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

i gave up for now on the screen protector. i had bought two different, but even with their simple instructions and guides to put them on, but 6 times was my limit. I bought a new set and will give that a go tomorrow, but if that doesn't work out, I'm going bare.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I just checked out the Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 version. It’s prettier, but it’s not a stunning difference, IMO. Oh well, it’s an excuse to get back to this game which I stopped playing really early, for whatever reason. As I had wondered about, the upgrade is just a download of assets, not a new version of the game (which is how PS4 to PS5 upgrades worked).

Did you guys know about the Zelda Notes app you can download on your smart devices to help you explore and play the Switch 2 editions of those two games?

for a first timer playing these new versions, which is better to start with TotK or BotW? mind you, I also want to delve into GC's Wind Waker at some point.

Are you playing handheld? I'd image the difference is more noticeable using the new 4K dock.

This is what my friend told me. He said the difference between dock handheld is extremely noticeable. He also said to make sure your HDMI input settings on your TV are set up for enhanced.

You can also get MKW digital download for 69.99 through Costco if you didn't get the bundle and regret it.
