You’re going to make me defend Oldboy Decker
But in his defense I couldn’t see Maxflier’s post about the delay. When I saw the news I went here to post it and couldn’t see what he posted. Of course I did read the thread so I figured someone posted it. So there’s no defending that….

Did they change the price already? It's a $500 machine.Nintendo wants to be the underpowered console and not chase pixels but at the same time charge for a premium console. All the while removing features (OLED & battery life) and almost charging double their last console. It's a bizarre amalgamation of of baffling decisions.

Between the packaging and word from Nintendo UK, the physical Switch 2 editions of games like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land are actually Switch 1 carts with a code for the upgrade packs.
If the Switch 2 box for Metroid Prime 4 looks anything like this ugly beast, I might just keep my ancient Best Buy preorder with the GCU discount and buy the upgrade on its own.

I guess we don’t know if it’s actually a code in a box with the black Switch 1 game cart or if it’s encoded on the cart and automatically downloads. My guess is it’s the former. Because that’s cheaper to make which is one of the big reasons why Nintendo is going this route.
IMO it’s yet another blunder on Nintendo’s part. It’s confusing, disingenuous, and a blow to game preservation. So these Switch 2 enhancements will someday only live on people’s consoles. Giving folks yet another reason to sail the high seas. That’s why I previously said I really want MP4 to release for the Switch 2 with its enhancements on the cart. And yeah I agree the box art is terrible with the giant banners.
…but I guess that’s no different than what every other game company is doing. But I trust MS and Sony more that we’ll still have access to their servers for a lot longer than Nintendo. And I mostly care more about being able to play Nintendo games in the distant future.

Sail the high seas... you mean once these stop being sold and the servers shut down or something?

I wish they would get off the pot and announce when pre-orders will start. The waiting game is getting tiresome.

Nintendo is not where the blame ought to be placed. It's an impossible situation; if they adjust the price for tariffs, it's an astronomical increase that'll price them out of the market. If they eat the tariffs, they're hemorrhaging billions of dollars. I have to assume they're waiting to see if cooler heads prevail regarding tariffs and potentially weighing which of the other options are the least catastrophic.

I mean how foolish of Nintendo to think tariffs were going to be like 10% and not 40 to 50% and based off of trade deficit? Plan ahead next time. /s

I saw an overhead diagram on twitter with a bullet trajectory striking a head in the right temple and exiting out the back of the skull with the caption $399, and one where it just misses and grazes the right ear with the caption $629.

More interesting news.
Doug Bowser, in an interview with CNBC on April 2, said that the price of $450 did NOT take in to consideration tariffs. Basically they priced it what it was worth or what they could sell it for. Same with the games. There is not a “standard price” so they feel like MKW is an $80 game and DK is a $70 game. They are not trying to set a new standard price for games.
He also said that there is stock in the US already and they have had time to manufacture consoles. Their goal is have enough stock to meet demand.

Bill Trinen stated that the Joy Con 2 do NOT use Hall effect sticks. This is pretty disappointing and I can’t help but feel this is an intentional omission to lead to an upgrade path in the future. But to their credit Nintendo did spend a bunch of money to fix joycon even out of warranty so it would be in their best interest to use whatever tech was durable. So…not sure what to think. I guess we won’t know until a couple years down the road. As long as it works right? Maybe they can’t use Hall effects since the joycon use magnets to attach?

Wulff Den did a video about his hands on time with the Switch 2. I feel like he has a pretty balanced approach to things. Pretty critical but not overly so. I’m pretty excited about the possibilities.
Basically his first impressions are positive. He thinks the most people won’t notice the screen isn’t OLED because of the HDR. The 120 fps are pretty impressive. Cyberpunk 2077 is likely a steam optimized port and runs at 40 fps and looks pretty good. He likens the power to possibly closer to an ASUS Rog Ally than a Steamdeck. MK ran really well even with a lot of people online at the same time. Surprisingly DK did not run quite as well.

No they didn't use Hall effect sticks. Hall effect sticks prevent drift and are used on 3rd party controllers.

The OG Switch didn't use hall effect sticks or they wouldn't have had all the drift problems.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Hall effect sticks are joysticks that use a magnet to determine position instead of a potentiometer. It’s a relatively new technology but since there is little friction they potentially won’t have joystick drift. But that’s still to be determined since it’s a relatively new technology. Just a few years old.
