Re: What are you playing? (August 2024)
The only thing on the docket for me right now is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I’m somewhere around the halfway point (on chapter 8 now) and am hoping to have this finished before Astro Bot comes out next month.
In the event I do finish up Rebirth with time in August to spare…hmm. Persona 5 Tactica or Forspoken?
I’m curious about Gundam Breaker V (despite having zero engagement with anything Gundam in the past) and will surely pick up Star Wars Outlaws eventually. I don’t expect either to be a day one purchase, though.

For once, I followed my own advice and played Open Roads on Gamepass. I liked it and agree it was short, but I was in the mood for something I could finish in a day. I was surprised by the B+-list voice talent (Keri Russell and Kaitlyn Dever), but some of the gameplay was too find-the-pixel-y for me.

Wow, I'm glad I decided to play this. Love this game. Looks great, controls great and plays great. No frustrating moments or difficulty, no big penalty for falling (you respawn soon right after) or dying. Highly Recommended, on Game Pass.

Elden Ring. I started a new game to get the hang of it again and wound up playing all the way to roughly the end, now I'm on the DLC.

If you haven't played them, does it matter?
FWIW I've played the original three multiple times each. The later ones are good too, but my kids enjoyed replaying the first few and after they moved out I didn't have as much incentive to replay the later ones.

Yeah, it holds up, even if the final stretch starts to feel tiring (which was the case the first time I played). Also, Nadine is a poor antagonist, and I wanted to shoot Sam so many times during the final stretch. Fortunately, The Lost Legacy makes up for those two issues.

UC2:AT, UC4:ATE, and UC:TLL make for a great trilogy. Afterwards, you might wanna give UC3: DD a go. Although it's the game that started it all and got me to love the characters, UC: DF doesn't hold up too well, especially given how spongy the enemies (even non-armored ones) become, making the frequent gunplay tiring.

That would be weird. If you are going to play them just play them in order.

They're written like pulp adventures. Although there is some continuity, you can dive in at any point and not feel lost. They are the game equivalents of the Indiana Jones franchise, or books by Clive Cussler and James Rollins.

Well I mean sure you could but they're story driven character focused games I can't imagine playing them skipped around unless you absolutely had no other choice. You would lose a ton of significance to the story if you just hopped into 4 for example without playing the first 3.

I would definitely play them in order. There are some fun moments with the character arcs.

Great Game
On Game Pass, highly recommended. Glad I decided to play, without knowing anything about it.
