Re: Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 6/22/23

First expansion was pretty mediocre. Just a short 2 hour tower run basically clearing out a tower of enemies and fighting a boss. The next expansion is supposed to be a lot more meaty.

Yeah, the next one is about 10 hours per the devs. For comparison, they said this one was around 3 hours. It will also have Leviathan which should give Clive more powers to play around with.

I'm really enjoying this and wondering about the DLC. I see that Echoes of the Fallen is already out and costs $9.99 in the PlayStation store. However, The Rising Tide still isn't out, but there's a Season Pass that says to include both at the "discounted price" of $24.99. Are such Season Passes worth it, or are there usually better discounts down the line?

Re: Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 6/22/23

I know I am way late to this party (having only just started playing it last Tuesday), but I am having a blast with this game. Yes, this game does not cater to min-max players, but that has never been my style in any RPG. I'm here for the story and this one has not disappointed me. The flourishes of DMC-style action don't hurt either, but I can see people hoping for something closer to what was delivered in FFVII:Remake/Rebirth. But constant reinvention is one of the things I like about the FF franchise.

This game feels like a TV series given the budget of a mega-budget blockbuster movie. In fact,
Spoiler:
Cid's death felt very much like a season finale moment. And Clive's reintroduction feels like the beginning of season 2.

Really enjoying this until I get my hands on Remake (as well as Rebirth).

Re: Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 6/22/23

So I just beat
Spoiler:
Bahamut

but the cinematics around the fight made the whole sequence feel disjointed. By that I mean
Spoiler:
we see Bahamut attacking the citizens with zero context, we fight him, and then Clive gets his powers. However, when we get the powers, we suddenly see a sequence that set up the fight. Except, it doesn't come across as a flashback (neither in presentation or in any acknowledgment by Clive), instead feeling like an editing mistake.

It's very weird, making Dion's reactions seem weird rather than poignant, until you see the setup.

I do agree that sequence was disjoint though. It's been months since I've played this but I still want a DLC with the uncle

Yeah, Uncle Byron is the best.

And over at Reddit someone showed that photo mode reveals that he keeps eating and drinking during the tavern fight.

Spoiler:

Sadly, I am now at the point just before I can unlock the Echoes of the Fallen DLC. This sucks because if I keep my current pace, I'll have to play The Rising Tide on New Game+ by the time it's released sometime soon.

It looks good.

Here's the whole panel, for those who might be interested.
