After your first post I was considering picking up an external drive. Guess I'll be waiting. No rush anyway.

Shipped my PS5 off via FedEx yesterday. Wanted to correct a mistake that I had made earlier: You can back up your game save data to a USB drive, without using PS Plus. It’s not in the Game Save Data Storage section like on the PS4, there is another place in settings called Backup and Restore. It’s in there.

So I bought the Sackboy collector's edition for my kid (I wanted her to have the stuffed toy and artbook as this is technically her first game that's 100% hers). Anyway, it's a PS4 disc. No big deal... It lets you claim the PS5 version to download while the disc is inserted, which is exactly what I did.
Except, it also keeps trying to install the PS4 version every time the system is turned on and the disc is inside. I cancelled it every time, but eventually just said fuck it and let it install. So now both versions are on the PS5, but with separate icons on the home screen.
Is there any way to 'hide' the PS4 version or y'know... Not let it install permanently?

It's a known issue with the auto install system. The only work around currently is turn off auto installs.

I don’t think there’s a fix yet. Yet another reason to have an external HDD attached for PS4 games.

Yeah, for a next gen console with limited storage space, of ALL things to have issues with, a simple external HD for PS4 games only should really not be one of them...

I am still going to get a PS5 when they're available... but man, what a clusterfuck.

I came hear to check on availability because we're still kinda interested but we always wait on new systems. I guess we can keep waiting for more of the quirks to be worked out.

Check Jake Randall and Wario64 on Twitter. That’s how my buddy snagged his from GameStop.

I've scored both consoles by following Wario64. He tweets a lot though, so there is that. I turned off the sound on the notifications as soon as I scored the console I was looking for at the time.

Wario really is the way to go here. My brother scored a Series X like a week before Christmas because of his tweets, and I was able to grab the Pulse headset too.

Right now I’ve got his notifications back on to try and land a new gpu.

Check out Falcodrin on Twitch if you're looking for an Nvidia 30XX card. Beware of a LOUD buzzer when stock drops. I got a 3080 back in October thanks to his stream.

Sony was good on their word about the quick turn around time. I sent my system to them, via the pre-paid FedEX box they sent me, on 12/31/20. It arrived in their office 1/5//21. The same day they sent me a new PS5 and it arrived at my house today, two days later. Will open it up later tonight, re-download Watch Dogs Legions, say a quick prayer and see how it works...

Why, was something wrong with your original PS5?

I kid, I kid! Glad they finally did the right thing.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

So I decided to go a little retro after finishing Ghost of Tsushima before starting the next big game. Decided to dive back into Flow and Flower (and let my daughter experience them for the first time as well). While it's still gorgeous, Flower deserves a 4k upgrade and maybe utilize the DualSense speaker some more.

So that got me thinking, whatever happened to That Game Company? Turns out they went mobile after Journey and put out Sky: Children of the Light on PC, iOS & Android in 2019 (iPhone GOTY 2019 according to their site). For those that are interested, it's coming this Spring to Switch and will support crossplay. A PS4 version has been announced but no date that I can find.

Here's the Switch trailer/announcement:

Okay so far so good. Played about a half-hour of Watch Dogs Legions and it never crashed. I don't think I was ever able to even play 10 minutes before without a crash. :fc: Looks good so far

A couple of things I noticed....

That was only sort of right. I was able to restore all my game saves and Screenshots & Clips, and sign in data (and apps) using a USB stick. But you can't just back up your game saves that way. They wipe your SSD and do a full system restore. So the only real way to save your game progress from one system to another is with a PS Plus account, which is a real pain if you have a few kids since it's not a family account. And Insult added to Injury, if you buy another PS Plus subscription for your kid, it's age-locked so he can't claim M rated free games even if you are fine with him playing them (apparently).

This appears to be fixed. I was able to claim and download the PS5 version of Sackboy and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 without having the PS4 version being installed. I never turned off Auto-Install and have I just confirmed that it will Auto-install a couple of PS5 games from Disc without issue.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Thanks! I was wondering about that because although I had turned off all the auto-update/auto-install crap, there was nothing to suggest that if I removed PS4 Sackboy files that it wouldn't just re-install when I popped the disc in again. I'll delete it and give it a shot.

It was good while it lasted. Almost all weekend. Now total system failure. Can't play a single PS5 game. Works for PS4 games off the external Hard drive. I am now doing a full system restore. What a frigging nightmare!
