Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I dropped from the highest tier to the middle tier. There weren't a whole lot of classics that I was playing, so the middle tier is sufficient for now.

Sony is closing Firewalk (the developers of Concord) and their mobile studio Neon Koi.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Terrible news about Firewalk. It was never clear exactly how much they spent to make Concord, but considering the studio was established in 2018 and that was their only game, it’s just a massive loss. I hope the individual devs find somewhere to land.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

It's shocking given the level of talent involved. In the space of just under 5 months, they had the first proper reveal of the game, it launched, it was pulled, and the studio was shuttered.

The environment's so brutal now that even a studio with the amount of talent at Firewalk doesn't get a second at-bat.

To be fair though, it was an exceptionally huge flop. Almost unprecedented. Are there any other major first-party console games that were pulled from existence?

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Not almost. Definitely.

There have been some that were cancelled before* any kind of release, but no, Concord is unique in that they went all the way with it. In previous eras, games were still playable with just the disc, but even Concord can’t do that.

* I’m thinking of the likes of Scalebound which was a MS/Platinum game, and TLOU 2 multiplayer, which, for all intents and purposes, would have functionally been standalone from the single player game, though we’ll never really know. I’m certain there are others in that category… but nothing like Concord.

November Free Games :

Of course, I already bought Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Good game though.
At least I held off on getting Ghostwire Tokyo.

Not sure about the Day 1 release there. Sounds complicated. At least I don't own it.

Amazon shipped mine USPS the day after launch, and it'll apparently be here on Monday.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Looks like it's available at all major retailers right now. I wonder if demand is pretty low, given the price point.

Zero chance. It's too new a product to bundle for BF yet.

...and a link to the Eurogamer article in question.

I certainly wouldn't expect an official Sony bundle (we'd surely know about that already?), but retailers bundling stuff together themselves, I could see it. Console plus game plus extra controller for at least a little less than you would normally pay for those separately...that's pretty routine.

The only time I see bundles are discount ones for holiday purchases when supplies are abundant, or non-discount ones when supplies are very limited. But we'll see I guess.

Also I saw a speculative article stating the PS5 Pro could be $1000 after Trump's tariffs go into effect. So that's awesome and might ve a reason to buy now as opposed to later.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Oh, Amazon...! My PS5 Pro has traveled from Kernersville, NC to Jefferson, GA (passing my house along the way) down to Jacksonville, FL and now to Charlotte, NC. The USPS doesn't even have it yet, though if the delivery estimate holds, the USPS will be doing the final delivery tomorrow.

Walmart has one going right now for the PS5 Slim:

Since we're in(-ish) the holiday season and supplies for the PS5 Pro are abundant, it wouldn't surprise me to see something, somewhere pop up.
