I thought DJ meant it was absurd how fast the 2TB runs out, but I guess that was the original drive.

I meant the 800GB drive that’s built in.

Alright, deleting games is fine and all but these prices are getting pretty tempting.

*edit - and...ordered!

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I didn't bother with the Samsung one at that price as there is a chance you will get one that needs a firmware update via PC to get the full speeds.

And this, 1st review on BestBuy:

These drives do need to be checked within Samsung Magician BEFORE you store anything on them. This 100% fixes the issues. There was a firmware bug when these launched that affected the 2tb 980 pros. (As well as 970 and 990) They would lock into read only mode and essentially self-deteriorate until no longer usuable. Some users claimed it took as little as 2 weeks and up to 6 months for this to happen. I have included pictures of the two manufacture dates of my purchased drives for my gaming pc. These both have shipped with the affected firmware. I knew this was a possibility before I purchased, but a quick update within Samsung Magician and everything has been fantastic. They have both been installed and at about half capacity a piece for about a month or so. There has been zero performance issues, both at 100% drive health, and operating well within acceptable temperature ranges under load. Even though they can be used in a PS5, I dont know if the bug is limited to just PC application. For that, I give a 4 star rating. Otherwise, if you have the means to update them, dont let the firmware issue sway you away. These have been fantastic so far for me. If anything changes, I will update my review. I definitely recommend them.

She’s referring to the new PS5 (and PC) exclusive masterpiece:

Not sure there’s any plans for it to be a VR game, though.

But it says it simulates walking like you're going to be doing the walking.

My NBA 2K23 updates are eating up so much space. I think I only have like 4 PS5 games installed. I had to put all the PS4 games on the external 4TB hard drive.

Here it is. Bought it from Best Buy for $139 plus tax and free shipping. Reviews seem good and it has a heatsink, which I know is important. I've watched a few YouTube videos and it seems pretty easy to install.

Like DJariya, I too grabbed the Samsung. I did some quick googling and it seems from benchmark tests this one got an ever so slight edge on the WD. Not by much, but with the cheaper price it was obviously more attractive.

Thanks for the heads up Music. With 28,000 reviews and 5 stars on amazon, I figured this was a safe bet. Looking at it again, all the 1 star reviews mention the issue you posted. I guess I'll check out the magician thing and see if I can even plug it in and update it on my machine.

Through a controller/buttons set like QWOP.

If it were meant for VR I think they would have mentioned the PSVR specifically.

This would be a lousy/frustrating VR game in my opinion.

There is a whole genre of games called walking simulators and they are not VR. Just because you think in your head it is VR doesn't make it so.

Ah. I'll throw it on the wish list and grab it for five bucks, and if there's anything I've learned, ALL games make it five bucks eventually.

Said the person who has already spend over $300 on a poorly received free to play Kart game.

Yep that's the one game I spent money on, I got enough season passes for 15 years Just passed the 100 hours played mark on that game, and it's my most favorite game of all time, and with enough time most played (right now it's Advanced Wars 1 with 1000+ hours). They release enough content that I'll have more than enough to play for years on end and I won't buy any other game at more than 80% discount because I don't have time to play it anyway. When Lords of the Fallen 2 was announced I put LOTF 1 on my Wishlist and it went to five bucks and I was like ... ehhh... I'd rather play Disney Speedstorm and passed on it and removed it from my wishlist.

My SSD drive was supposed to arrive yesterday, but is apparently delayed. I guess there were no FedEx drivers available on Saturday in my area to pick it up. No rush.

I installed this one yesterday. I didn't scour the entire internet, but it was regularly listed in the top 5 SSDs for the PS5 and the firmware issue didn't seem to come up in PS5 use. Hopefully not. A year ago it was as high as $450, so $139.99 was just too good to pass up. My WD Black was supposed to arrive from amazon 6/19, but when they changed the delivery date to July 24 I just cancelled and drove to Best Buy for the Samsung.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I got mine the other day. Manufactured in January of this year. I spent about an hour trying to get my 5 year old PC to recognize it to check/update the firmware. I had zero success on that front so I gave up and just installed it into the PS5.

I did read that as long as your PS5 sees the drive speed at around 6,500 you're good to go. It's when the PS5 spits out a number around 5,000 that it's a red flag that the firmware needs to be updated.

So there you go, hopefully that tidbit might help someone. Maybe DJariya if he hasn't done his yet.

I moved a couple of the games I'm playing. Do they run faster? I thought I read they did so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Got the SSD today from FedEx. And I just installed it into the PS5. It was actually quite easy. The most intimidating part was removing the face plate, but it popped off pretty easy and popped back on with no issues. And installing it internally was a piece of cake.

So far, no issues. The package says it was manufactured in December 2022. I moved over a few games that I had no actually started yet, but just installed. After it was formatted, it said the speed was something like 6500+ MB/Second

Newbie question. I have Madden 23 and NBA 2K23 on my console storage along with their saved data. They can still function off the console storage right? Only new games and the ones I moved are now operating off the new 2TB SSD? Just want to be sure I don't need to move everything off the internal console storage. Plus, the sports games eat up so much space.

I installed the PS5 version of this month's free games Trek to Yomi and the Jurassic Park game and they installed lightning fast to the new SSD. Less than 5 minutes for each.

New...that be PS5 games can only be played off the SSD, internal or added drive....they can be stored anywhere. PS4 games can be played off any drive and moved to any drive. ....PS5 Games were written/made to specifically take advantage of the SSD Speed of Read/Write....

Correct, both SSDs are basically the same, the new one does not eliminate the original SSD.
