It depends on the game. Some games allow you to use your PS4 save on the PS5 version. Some do not. Maneater won't let you transfer your PS4 save to the PS5 save and you have to start over....

Edited to add. It now looks like Maneater will let you transfer saves now after a recent update.

I placed it with Sony directly. There was an email that went out with a link, try this:

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

This thread reminded me about getting one of those larger portable hardrives - don't know if folks have read the reviews that they have to be careful. As they get used up to capacity the response time becomes sluggish and there can be trouble saving or even accessing your game data. I guess that's true with portable hard drives in general, but still.

Quoting myself to say that I tried to play the original God of War on disc and had to delete some stuff to make room. Pretty crazy how some games are 80-90 GB.

Also for the record, I’ve never had discoloration issues with my white controller, but maybe I’m just not playing hard enough to sweat that much,

This here, below, is the hard-drive I've been using on the PS5 to play PS4 games off of (and to transfer/store PS5 games I'm not playing to save space on the PS5 drive), and I've definitely put more time in on the PS4 games off that drive than on the PS5, and it's been lickety split with absolutely zero issues (so far).

By the way according to the email, that pre-order link should be valid until 9:59 am ET on Friday (or while supplies last).

They have on Amazon for like $35.

Anyone get one of these covers just to change color or am I being insane?

And yes, I do have self-diagnosed OCD.
I changed mine to black right away, shortly after launch, and am 100% glad I did--mainly for the reason you said: all my other components are black and really it looked ridiculous as the only (giant) white thing. Congrats on your new addition. Oh and I've had my white controllers for 2 years and there's no discoloration at all.

I did. It’s not perfect yet, but I updated and downloaded all my games. This weekend I’ll take care of wires and install the SSD.

Thanks to all for your help, assistance and probably patience!! I truly appreciate it so much.

Do most keep the PS5 in rest mode all the time?

I turn my off when I'm not playing it. I only really play on my days off work.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I only play on weekends as well, but like the auto updates that can happen any time. I thought it’s best that way. Would it wear out the hardware if on rest mode constantly? I keep my Xbox on rest as well. I thought that was the thing to do.

I tried to put the black ones on. The whites ones were easy to take off and put back on. The black I couldn’t figure for the life of me. Lined them, tried to match the whites, but I wasn’t getting anywhere. And I know I bought the panels for the digital version. They just didn’t fit properly. I was like no more. Didn’t want to fiddle and possibly do harm knowing me. Now that the white is there and the white controller, I kinda like the dichotomy of the colors. Plus my walls almost match. You can see in pic above, but it doesn’t stand out like I thought it would. I kinda like it like that.

I like the white as it is…. black would be at the bottom of the list of choices for me.

Oldboy, get the Demon Souls remake. You will love it and breeze through it.

I usually play in short spurts so I leave it in rest to charge the controller. I don’t have a separate charger.

It's part of Playstation Plus Extra game catalog. No need to buy it.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

My PSN membership expired a few weeks ago and I’m also waiting on a potential deal to resubscribe. So in the meantime, all my downloads are unplayable. I can only play a few of my PS5 discs like Miles Morales and NBA 2K23. I’m not a frequent gamer, so $60 per year for the “Essential” plan is not something I urgently need. You can forget the two higher tiers at $99 and $119. Way out of my price range.

I know. Perhaps I should have said “download” instead of “get”. I didn’t intend to imply it needed to be purchased. But… it was also a joke.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Welp, it’s done. I installed an SSD with only little trouble. But I done did it. Me, of all people. Took panel off and back on. Fiddled with screws and a pain in the ass washer, popped SSD in. The new SSD popped right up when I turned PS5 on. Formatted fine. Wires are as hidden as there gonna be and I booted, but yet to play GoW (2018). I can’t wait though but now that’s it’s set up, I can fucking breathe. Phew!

As Elden Ring taught me…just stick to what I know best. Platformers, shooters, some open world stuff. Basically every PS exclusive ever. They’re all my type of games in their unique ways and I can’t wait to play them! Xbox be damned. No no, I take that back. Sorry MS gods.

Um, nah. Wasn’t for me. I tried a few times, made it a little ways and then said, this is just not fun or my type of game. Maybe I’ll go back to it one day, but for now, I'm staying away.
