That's HDMI-CEC

You can turn it off in the PS5 menu.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I'm still running the new Beta for the PS5 and started up Cyberpunk yesterday and it's finally in Atmos. Sounds even better than before.

Yeah that's the same issue I was having a few weeks ago that you guys helped with. Although turning that off caused another issue where now every time I turn on my ps5 I get a TV pop-up about game mode being on and it stays on the screen for 15 seconds as a timer counting down if I want to turn it off

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

State of Play tomorrow at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET:

Tomorrow's broadcast will focus on updates to previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles. From indie and PS VR2 highlights, to major upcoming titles from our third-party partners, our latest show has something for everyone!

I expected this to be Spider-Man 2 plus ::gestures vaguely in another direction::, so I'm a little surprised it's just...errr, the vague gesturing. Hopefully some good stuff. Maybe release dates for Stellar Blade and FF7: Rebirth, and more on Rise of the Ronin?

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

That looks WAY too difficult for me to play with others.
But it does look very nice. Hard to believe it's even a sequel to the first game, it looks so different (and prettier).

Baby Steps sure was a bold move to start the whole thing. For better or worse, it set the tone of what was to come. Spidey 2 and Rebirth look incredible, at least.

Why can't they add an option to update games that aren't on your "home" menu?

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

So after doing some research and looking at YouTube, looks like I figured out what was causing my PS5 to turn on by itself.

The system turned on by itself 3 times in 1 day a few days ago.

I had to go to system, HDMI and turn off enable HDMI Device Link. That seems to have done the trick. What is the point of this function?

(I'm not sure if this is the same thing Noonan pointed out above)

I agree but also imagine your system updating 10 or more titles for games you haven't played recently or that are on an external drive. I know some games have exorbitant update file sizes and I have a monthly data cap. I guess I'm also glad that my system isn't constantly updating games I have but haven't played recently.

It’s shared communication over HDMI, so if you turn on your PS5, it’ll turn on your TV. You can change volume, change channels, yadda yadda with one remote control rather than have a remote for every device.

Which sounds nice in theory, but in practice, it’s just annoying, and I make it a point to disable this on every device I have.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I know a few of us have been completely ignoring controller updates. I don't know if it was due to new PS5 software but I just had a message that I HAD to update the controller to use the console and it was able to update without connecting via USB. Will controllers update wirelessly from now on or was this some specific scenario?

I believe that the VR controllers still need to be manually updated.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

We have the HDMI hookup enabled so it switches to the right input on our TV, my wife really digs that stuff (she's the computer nerd of the family; no shade on that, she makes mad money at her job).

Anyways, I was watching an old X-Files DVD and it didn't look too hot, is there an upconversion setting in the PS5 that needs to be turned on?

I can test out an X-files episode on my PS5 and standalone blu-ray player, but that may just be how they look. I find it harder to watch DVDs these days as I'm just used to HD or 4K.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I've been wanting a game-ranking system in the PS Store since they removed it upon the PS5 debut.

Cool that you can only rate games you own. Prevents review bombing.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

What they NEED to do is let you update games that aren't part of the most recently played on your home-screen.

Yeah, it clearly shows artifacts of older DVD compression, I just thought the PS5 plus our new TV might do something to make it look less bad.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

The software that plays back DVDs on the PS5 is probably just shit at upscaling, and since it outputs the signal at 4K (or HD, if you don’t have a 4K TV hooked up to it), the TVs own upscaling doesn’t get applied.
I don’t even know what enhancements are coded into it… like is it even deinterlacing at least?

Farming Simulator 22 and The Callisto Protocol are two of the rumored PS+ essential games for October.
