Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I’m guessing that this Sony’s version of the Elite controller. If the regular PS5 controller are $90 here in Canada, it will probably be priced at around $140.

Edit - Nevermind. It will be priced higher as the Elite 2 is priced at $230.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

New controller looks cool, although I really like the standard one.

VR stuff is going to be tempting, although I already have a Quest and a Quest 2 and don't play them a ton.

Going back to the secondary SSD, I didn't realize how much of a difference it would make speed-wise. I did get the WD Black SN850, which is a fairly speedy drive, but I didn't expect it to beat the built-in. It felt fast out of the box, but I updated the firmware last night and now it smokes the regular drive.

It’s only a $20 increase here in Canada but it still sucks. The US is the only market that has been spared for now.

Man sometimes I forget how much the Elite 2 controller is. I got the elite 1 at a discount but just can't see paying that much for a controller especially when they fail/break as often as they do.

The dollar is strong right now so no big surprise. I'm mostly surprised that you can still order a PS5 directly from Sony (w/ H:FW) and have been able to for days now.

Wild thing is that consoles always get price cuts eventually. PS5 may go the longest without one.

Nintendo Switch is going on 5.5 years already without a price drop.

Funny how I never got a reply for the invitation to buy the set back in June, but was able to easily get the PS5 directly from Playstation.

Toem looks to be a very short but cute and fun little game. Something I would have never bought but might still enjoy.

So is Deathloop coming to ps plus extra or premium? It was a little confusing when they lumped both together in the announcement.

The tweet says Extra and Premium so I assume both?

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Extra = PS Plus + PS4 and PS5 games
Premium = PS Plus + Extra tier + PS3 games via streaming emulation + PS 1 and 2 games + PS4 games via streaming.

I have no real desire to play PS1, PS2, PS3 and even some PS4 games unless they've been totally redone and upgraded but even then, didn't buy a PS5 to "Go Backwards"...guess to each their own

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Spotted a PS5 in a stock cart at Target last night. First time I’ve actually come across one in person. I was partially tempted by it but had to pass because I’ve got other expenses coming up and didn’t want to throw that much money down for it. Plus it may have been an online order or whatever too since it was in the stock cart and not actually on the shelf.

Yeah if I were buying, I would probably opt for PS Plus Extra which is closest to Game Pass. Since I got upgraded when PS Plus and PS Now merged, I'm in the Premium tier. I don't do much with the older titles but there are some good ones. And Playstation has some great PS3 games that are otherwise impossible to find and play so it's pretty cool from a historical perspective. But most people would be fine with the more recent games only I would think.

PSX and PS2 would be tough, but I’d definitely replay (and have replayed!) some PS3 games and certainly PS4. Older Ratchet and Clank games in particular still hold up extremely well, and I could see myself replaying something like the Rayman side-scrollers or the first couple Infamous games.

Some of the tricks that Microsoft is doing with BC can be pretty miraculous too. 360-era games like Red Dead Redemption and Gears of War 2/3 look shockingly modern (to a point, anyway!) when rendered at a higher resolution, Auto HDR, with that fancy anti-aliasing applied, etc. Even OG Xbox games like Crimson Skies — which don’t really have a “modern” equivalent — look awfully nice, mostly dated by the pixelated HUD.

The new game lists are nice, but I wish they could be pinned to the home page.

Except for the recently played games on the top, looks like they want to keep the home page clear so they can shovel more and more ads* into your face.

*yes, these aren't technically ads, but they still push apps and content on you that I'd rather they keep to their shop and not on the home page.
I miss the days of the clean console interface - now it's just inundated with a bunch of bullshit.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Yeah. I imagine that's exactly the thought process. It's not a huge issue going to that screen, but still, I liked it when I could get into a game or three quickly and easily. Especially since I share the console with my kids.

I think it's more likely trying to push a social media feed type feel.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I was disappointed by the PSVR2 showings, but it was a pretty solid show overall — more my speed than the Nintendo Direct this morning. Though in the same way that the Direct was all farming, all the time, this was kind of the same deal but with samurai.

I’m still really digging the look of Project Eve — Sony’s hyper-stylish answer to Bayonetta — which now has an official title: Stellar
Blade.

And that Ragnarok trailer…! Wow.
