Sorry I didn't individually respond to both Dan and Decker. I started to but you guys are honestly way more invested in this issue than I am and I didn't want to keep wasting your time and having you write these detailed responses.
I understand I am in the minority here but these things just don't bother me in the slightest and they do bother you so I'll leave it be.

I still think the publisher (not the gaming studio which has nothing to do with this marketing decision, BTW) will eventually see how bad this policy looks and change it. I sure hope so.

And to clarify I do think they will end up reversing course and allow it also.

Looks like they’re doubling down rather than reversing course.
https://controlgame.com/control-ulti...n-explanation/
On the one hand, I kind of get it. They want to drum up some sales to people who haven’t played it yet and are hungry for stuff early in the life of the new console(s) they buy this fall. If everyone with the game disc could upgrade for free, a lot of the customers they’re pursuing would just buy a used previous gen copy and pop it in their new system.
That said, they should’ve just released the complete edition on both generations without any kind of free upgrade angle. As it stands, they’re intentionally giving preferential treatment to new players over those who were enthusiastic about the game early on. It’s like if Xbox offered a free game with the purchase of the Series X, but only if you had never owned a Microsoft console before.
I bought the game at launch, bought full price copies for two of my nephews as Christmas gifts and was planning to buy the season pass as soon as the final dlc dropped. At this point, I’ll pass on spending anything else on it. I’ll play the dlc if/when it comes to game pass on the Series X or goes on sale for dirt cheap.

If they don't reverse course and if you haven't bought the season pass or the 1st expansion yet and want to, then it's a $15 upgrade for the next-gen version... not overly terrible if you gotta have whatever updates they are going to make for next-gen.
Ultimate Edition $39.99
Season Pass $24.99
For everyone that has bought the pass or expansion, then yeah not a very cool move from them - if their next-gen upgrades are even worth it.

I agree; I still maintain that their explanation makes no sense because, ultimately (heh heh), the actual bits of the XO/PS4 Ultimate Edition are identical to the bits of the XO/PS4 Digital Deluxe Edition that was released on day one and is still available even now (unless it's been removed, I haven't checked). I really wish a journalist would push them for an answer on that specific point. Because nobody takes issue with cheaper re-releases containing all previous content. People take issue with an upgrade path where one set of users with those bits can upgrade later for free, while another set of users with those identical bits can only upgrade later by re-buying the full game.
Putting that aspect aside, I get that they're a business and they need to make money, but they way they've gone about this is disappointing. I can't think of another example quite like this one.

Bought this for PC (Ultimate Edition) for about $26 via Steam.
I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this, and that's fine. Props to them for swinging for the fences with whatever this is

The new DLC/update added a ton of accessibility features including sliders for pretty much everything. You can make yourself invincible, one hit kills, etc. The difficulty spikes were my least favorite part of the game so I'll definitely go back and wrap up some of the side stuff I didn't do on my original playthrough with some of this stuff turned on.

This is the first game I've really played with raytracing and I'm now sold. The glass almost freaks me out sometimes.

If you don't already have the game, it's a no brainer that you buy the UE for $40 which includes the game, the DLC and the next Gen upgrade

It's not available for Pre-Order. But it will be up for both the Xbox One and PS5 next week. It may be digital only.

XBOX Series X you mean right? And I’d rather have digital. I rarely get physical anymore. Control was last physical I bought and that was bc it must have been a great deal somewhere. But even I’ve double dipped for digital...

Re: Control (Remedy) - PC/PS4/XB1 - 8/27/2019
The whole controversy is that people who buy the UE version of the game get the free upgrade to the next gen version when it comes out -- but those with exactly the same content purchased, full game and DLC Season pass, do not get the upgrade at all. The only way to get the next-gen upgrade is with the UE version (which is the game, the Season Pass and the Next-gen upgrade for $39.99 total).

Re: Control (Remedy) - PC/PS4/XB1 - 8/27/2019
Ok. Got it. I just started and while I don’t know really wtf is going on (beyond Jesse good, The Hiss bad), I can tell you I’m enjoying it. Only in second mission, but it’s been fun so far. Been awhile since I played a 3rd person so it took me a bit to get adjusted from FPS. Don’t really think I’m upgrading the XBOX anytime soon, so I think base game will do for now. If I keep going and still enjoy and dare I say finish it, I’ll think about SP or the UE in digital form. This is a mind fuck game, but pretty cool so far with the upgrading and mods. Not bad, not bad at all. Thanks Deck for all the clarification!
