I've received three pre-ordered games recently and have two more on order (Mario Tennis, Octopath Traveler). Savings on those alone is more than half the yearly charge.

I've been a prime member back when it was just shipping before all the perks, so it's worth it for me, but if the $100 is too steep seems like $30 for Best Buy's GCU is a good alternative to save on physical.
That said, I mentioned before but I see enough deals on digital gift cards/credit that I'm fine using those savings on a lot of digital games. I prefer the convenience and never been big on the buy it+trade it in thing.
Anyway, played a bit of the game and enjoy it so far. It's not the frentic hack and slash of the original games, but somehow keeps a lot of that spirit still in the combat. People kept referencing "Souls" and I thought I would hate the combat, but it's been fine so far.

Holy shit this game is real good. Throwing the axe and calling it back to my hand is one of the most satisfying things I've done in a game in a long long time.
With this and Horizon out there, anyone who has the means (and interest) and still doesn't have a PS4 is doing themselves a disservice.

You should really preface the spoilers with a better hint of what you're talking about...
Anyway, I also thought it drug out a bit, but a cool (re)intro what kind of power Kratos has.

Yeah that whole scene was fantastic. Taking a break for now but I’m loving it so far. I’m maybe an hour past when you first can upgrade equipment.

I only have a few hours into this, but HOLY shit this game is amazing. I knew I would like it, but it finds the perfect balance so far with story and game...
I also got my LG OLED tv in the mail today to replace my older 4k tv that I bought one year before HDR support...and MY GOD this game looks amazing in HDR...it is a bigger leap in quality than I saw going from 1080p to 4k. Of course some of that might also be the high end 4k OLED tv vs my older 1000 dollar 4k tv....but still having never experience HDR until today, I am a BIG supporter already.

I turned all HUD elements off. Makes the games Graphics shine. I even turned off the Compass! The son seems to be a good enough guide for Kratos. I'm a lot more careful in combat as there are no health bars on both enemies and Kratos.

Re: God of War (4/20/18- PS4)
It’s nice, but hasn’t really grabbed me quite yet, so far. The world/setting feels kinda... blah so far. I’m enjoying the little dialog touches and the general relationship with the son though. I find the combat tricky, with enemies appearing behind me, seemingly out of thin air, so I have the difficulty turns down. I can often lose to enemies when I’m down to the last couple. I like the double team aspect though.
The upgrades/skills etc are a bit overwhelming so far.
And the navigation in the world feels odd. Sometimes it’s very open, sometimes feels very linear. The map looks nice, but it's pretty much useless. I’m never quite sure if I should stop and explore or push forward and maybe come back later. Spent a while in one area before realizing there were too many ‘hey you clearly don’t have this ability yet’ sections so I think I’m going to push through the story first (while slowly soaking things up).
No idea how far in I am, but it has just significantly changed so is that just opening up now?
So I might still be early, and it is enjoyable. But personally so far it isn’t up there with Witcher3, Horizon or Zelda or even AC: Origins just yet. Those did a better job for me at engaging me in their worlds and getting me interested in their story/characters.

I like the game but dislike the seemingly closed off paths of the map. It is not as open world as I feel it should be. Also, there are some things that have me shaking my head. We are to assume Kratos has lived in the area for some time but is also unaware of some of the major dangers within walking distance from his house? I still think it is a really good game but can't see myself playing it for 6-8 hour marathon sessions.

Re: God of War (4/20/18- PS4)
I'm enjoying the world/setting much more then Horizon, but i've always been a fan of various mythologies and one of the main reasons why I really liked the God of War series. I'm also glad it's not just another open world game.
I actually haven't cared much for the Dad/Son relationship in this so far though, Kratos is a dick and the kid is just annoying, but I feel that way about most kids in movies/games. Ellie from Last of Us might be the only exception so far.

Yes, you would think Kratos would be a little more sensitive with his relationship with his son right after the mother's death. However, he cranks the dick level up to 11.

It's almost like this is your guys first introduction to the Kratos character.

My comment was more specifically to the two people that followed up your post. You said "Kratos is a dick" and yeah that's pretty much his defining characteristic.

Yes, in context of why the dad/son relationship has not worked at all for me so far in the game. Not because i'm suddenly shocked by the revelation of this personality trait.

Re: God of War (4/20/18- PS4)
Yeah Kratos has always been a dick, but it worked with the warrior within. A little sensitivity would be nice here, but I'm sure it will be some emotional moment at the end.
With that said, the game is great.

I've enjoyed everything about the game so far. Although, i didn't get to play as much this weekend as I was hoping. I just made it to the spinning bridge.
