Yeah, the bosses are on the repetitive side. I guess I haven’t been too bothered by that aspect though. There’s enough variety of things to do in the worlds.

I’ve been playing but am somewhat trying to kind of drag it out so it’s not over right away. Even though I know I’ll be trying to collect the moons for quite a while after I finish the main story.

Spoiler:
The finale of the New Donk City world is awesome being a throwback to the origin of Mario with Donkey Kong. I love how this game throws back to basically all things Mario that came before it but also offers up a lot of new aspects. Just a damn good game.

My only issue with the game is it was way too easy. Didn't like the soup/kitchen level and it seemed like the longest one.

Yes, the boss battles are repetitive, but that's kind of the way Mario is with bosses. I forgive it due to the variety of the level designs and worlds. The bosses are very easy though. I died on Bowswer only once, and I was kicking myself that I did at all.

The real challenge of these games is in collecting all the moons. I think that's what Nintendo goes for though. Everyone wants to beat the game. Only some people care about completing every challenge.

I just mean, New Donk City had such a showstopper in that festival. Meanwhile, the wedding that the entire game has led up to is
Spoiler:
a mostly empty room with a character or two from each realm, and the final battle is in an even more empty arena that has nothing to do with anything. I think back to the colossal scale of the final battle in, say, Galaxy, while this one is basically just lazy copying/pasting leading up to the escape.

The New Donk Festival is a positive thing though. I wouldn't expect to see tons of Mario characters to watch Bowser force Peach to marry him.

That doesn't mean that there has to be zero spectacle or imagination for the final battle, though. I enjoyed what followed after the battle, but if the entire game is oriented around a wedding being planned, maybe the climax should be more involved than
Spoiler:
walking into a chapel and then diving into a black arena for a completely recycled boss battle
.

Maybe not Mario's friends, certainly, but having it as the "evil" counterpart to New Donk City's celebration with the some of the Koopa Troop, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings, or even tangential characters like Wario, Wart, or King Krool there to witness the wedding would have been kind of neat.

Well yeah that would have been awesome but I wasn't disappointed by the ending. Definitely not enough to affect my opinion on the game.

Man... I played through the snowy level today. It was fun, but getting one of the optional moons was a major pain in the ass. It's the one where you have to use the flowers to fly over the different sections of water, jumping and turning at just the right moments. Damn near threw my controller at the screen  then, when I finally got it, I saw that you can go further to get a second moon. Luckily, that one didn't take as long, but I probably died nearly 40 times getting that first one.

Ugh another tough challenge. The sand volleyball thing is going to take forever for me. I had a hard time even getting fifteen, no idea how I'll get to a hundred.

Finished the main game with 198 moons. While I'm tempted to go back and find everything, I think I'll take it slowly. My daughter loves watching me play it, and I let her take the control and run around a little in some of the maps. None of the bosses were particularly hard, but the bird one gave me a bit of trouble.

I had a bit of a hard time with the octopus boss before figuring out what I had to do. He probably beat me four or five times before I got him.

I make it to the 40s easily, but I can't see getting 100 for a while.

The ball CAN bounce once. But it's not going to be much of a bounce.

After every hit, I always try to recenter Mario so that I am never running across the entire court.

You don't have to use your hat, but remember that you can throw it at the ball to hit it back.

Oh yeah, that one was tough, too. I wasn't sure exactly what to do at first either. I only died once during that one, but it took me forever to actually defeat him since I kept thinking I was close enough when I wasn't.

I've collected all but 3 purple coins in the game, but for some reason I can't find the last ones in Bowser's Castle

I think I’ve died more times in the Luncheon Kingdom than I have in the entire game. So many places for Mario to burn his ass and those damn tomato enemies.

I gave up for now. I’ll have to do that and the jump rope challenge later.

Edit: I messed up, I’m talking about the jumprope game.

I maxed out at 91 earlier today in handheld mode with the joycons attached. It was about to die so I charged it and tried a few hours later with the Pro controller. I blew right by 100 and started to wonder if it would max out at 999.

I ended up screwing up at 703 so I went to the leaderboard to see the top score and some dude has 55,555.

After 50 the speed stops increasing and if you get the timing down you can pretty much do it indefinitely.

Side note... is there anywhere we can exchange Switch friend codes on this forum? I didn't see it in any of the sticky threads

Finished the main story tonight. Pretty good ending though I didn’t find Bowser very challenging.

Spoiler:
getting to control Bowser was pretty great. I agree with others that a game where you play as him could be cool and also something new. I liked how Peach got fed up with Mario and Bowser fighting over her and then she walks away and Mario is patting Bowser on the back. Overall a really satisfying game. I’ll definitely keep playing to try and collect the rest of the moons.

I almost think Nintendo didn't really want to put a story in this one, there's almost as much post-game as there is main game.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey (Oct 27,2017)- Official Thread

I disagree. There is way more story (and better) in Odyssey then any Mario game previously they just happen to continue story stuff into the post game.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey (Oct 27,2017)- Official Thread

It’s not like Mario games are really known for intricate stories anyways. They basically all boil down to he saves Peach from Bowser. It’s just what they are.
