Picked up my switch a few mins ago. Excited to get started on some Mario and Zelda. Should keep me busy through next few months. Probably going to get me to cancel crackdown pre-order too. Well that and MS game pass.

How necessary is a memory card? I don't plan to buy much digital and right now my games are both physical copies.

Nintendo's paid online service is scheduled to launch in September. The goal is "very attractive programs and content", and we'll find out whatever that means "later in the year".

A bunch of other stuff came out in the strategy briefing meeting (see the mobile gaming thread for the biggest reveal!), but that's the most concrete thing for the Switch. Interest in the Labo is stratospheric, they want to have more of those types of experience on the Switch, Illumination is producing a Super Mario Bros. movie with Miyamoto as a co-producer, and they want to work on even more DLC and events to keep engagement with software going longer than ever.

I wish they would make more tracks for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I would buy them in a heartbeat.

I wonder if that means we’ll see the Switch version of Mario Kart around the same time. Granted I know we got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe already but it’s a port of and I’m sure there will be a new version since Switch is so successful.

Remember that some physical copies still require digital downloads like LA Noire and the upcoming Bayonetta 2. You will eventually need one, though maybe not for a little while. I picked this 128 GB card for mine for $37 back in December. It's up to $45 now. Still a much better deal than the PS Vita all these years later. Well worth getting at some point.

Yeah the fact it's just a regular SD card is a great thing. Just avoid the Switch branded ones, one of the worst "stupidity taxes" I've seen.

Yeah I saw that $99 card at BB yesterday and chuckled. Thx guys. Probably pick up a 64 or 128 down the line, but seems I won't need one for now.

Yeah. FWIW, I have six physical games, patches/DLC for pretty much all of 'em, one digital game, a set of saves, and the unavoidable Switch OS overhead, and I still have 19.6 GB free on the onboard storage. If you're buying mostly/entirely physical, especially if you're primarily playing Nintendo-published games, it'll be a long while (maybe never) until you need one. (There are oddballs like the original Bayonetta only being available as a download when you buy Bayonetta 2, but generally, Nintendo's games are so tiny that they'll basically never spill over.)

Square-Enix store exclusive. The Switch version is sold out but they are reprinting. I have a PS4 copy.

So first impression of Mario, is it is fucking great. My biggest gripes are that I feel the controls are very floaty sometimes (especially noticeable during 2D parts) and the camera. My god, I hate the camera. Yes, I know you can readjust it, but it seems so damn slow to keep up. Outside of that, this game is spectacular.

Camera doesn't bother me much in this. I've seen far worse in other 3D platformers.

My only complaint is that some of the moves are hard to replicate. There are so many different things you can do with the hat and it's easy to do the wrong one.

Hey, does anyone have Xenoblade Chronicles 2? Is it really good? I haven't heard much buzz about it at all. I remember the first one was a big deal when it was ported over as the first New 3DS-only game.

I put a tempered glass screen on the Switch. Man I suck an installation. Several air bubbles in it that don't seem to want to go away. Fortunately, it came with 2, so I may try again sometime down the line. I figured I may be taking this to my son's baseball practices now, so some extra protection is nice. Anyone recommend a decent carry case?

I got this Orzley one for $12 and I like it. It's small and seems well made and provides good protection.

This review was enough of a "nnnnnope!" for me.

Nosing around on some other gaming forums, it's divisive, but the people who are into it are really, really into it.

It has an 83 on Metacritic (and an 8.2 from users). But it does sound like a Japanese ass RPG.

I like it, but it's a JRPG, with all the pitfalls and trappings, if you don't like the genre you won't like this. You don't really need to have played the first one or the WiiU one to understand it. The battle system is basically that of an MMORPG and you can tell your companions when to use their special strikes in order to create chains.

I can talk about it a bit more, if you like. There is a random/gatcha aspect to it in terms of getting blades, but the items drop pretty frequently and it's not like it's a lootbox where you spend more money, it's just luck of the draw.

Anyone play the jackbox stuff? Was considering that as sort of a party game for when we have people over.

Do you have any other systems? Those games are always on sale dirt cheap on PSN (and, I assume Xbox though I don't know that for sure). It's not a game that you really would want or need to have on a portable system since it's a party game. In other words, wait until it's a lot cheaper or get it on another system on sale.
