September 2017 NPD: Switch #1, Nintendo systems claim two-thirds of gaming hardware sales.

NPD will be issuing data from the September 2017 report later today. However, Nintendo has already come out with some information to highlight its strong performance.

In September, Switch was the top-selling current-gen hardware in the United States.

It’s the third month in the row for the console and the fifth time overall in the seven months since launch. Sales for Switch are now at over two million units in the US alone.

A number of Switch games occupied multiple spots in the list of best-selling individual games of the month. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was at #7, Zelda: Breath of the Wild was at #10, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was at #11.

Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS was also at #8 in its first month. Nintendo also noted in today’s announcement that, when combined with the 3DS family of systems and the Super NES Classic Edition system, Nintendo systems claimed two-thirds of the month’s total video game hardware sales.

Who would have ever thought that Nintendo, with the lackluster sales of the Wii U, would come roaring back to the top of the video game world with the Switch?

I think a lot of people honestly. The Wii and Nintendo DS are their two best selling consoles to date (and the two best selling non-Sony consoles to date), the Switch is basically a functional combo of them.

Unlike the Wii U, which was just poorly named, marketed and executed (and the only console I actually got rid of while it was still active.)

There's a separate firmware update for the joycons as well.

Also, this firmware update apparently enabled USB (and wireless USB!) headsets when docked.

It's been out for a while but I broke down and picked up Ultra Street Fighter II yesterday. Pretty good port.

Love the port, hard to enjoy online as everyone picks Evil Ryu, Violent Ken or Akuma. However!! The salt is real when you happen to beat them!!

I saw about 10 Switches in stock at Target here, looks like they've really got production churning.

I even saw the Splatoon 2 special edition Switch at Walmart the other day. There may have been a few but I couldn't see behind it to know for sure. The console seems pretty regular around here but I also don't live in a huge town and I'm guessing a lot of people who want one have one.

Picked up my second new Switch game for the week. Think after Super Mario Odyssey next week I'll be good for a while. Stopped by GameStop and saw Tiny Barbarian DX and it looked appealing to me. I have to say the publisher, Nicalis puts together a nice package. I saw a review of Cave Story DX (which I also might get at some point) and they put in a nice full color manual and a little pouch with a keychain and are pretty reasonably priced. I realize the games are older but still.

Well after preordering it long ago with the Visa checkout discount at BB and then completely forgetting about it, I got my third physical game: Fire Emblem Warriors. At the time I had no idea it was also coming for 3ds.

And... it's a 2.7 gig download for the physical game. It would be nice if they put that on the box somewhere considering the putrid amount of space this system has by default.

How much is a Nintendo Switch now? Can I play older NES games and stuff? What do I need just a free hdmi port on tv (which I don’t)? Is it wireless connectivity and in order to get stuff, do I have to pay for membership, like Xbox Gold? Odyssey has me jiggy. Would love to play this, the new Zelda, but definitely want to finish the one that was last on GameCube. The name escapes me.

with the i-cube ones (that have an 'S' that you need to fit in the slot). If you're close and it's ready to pay out, the 'S' will touch the transparent piece of plastic...if it's not ready, the S will touch the black part. So it might take a couple of pokes to see if it's ready.
