The new Zelda looks fun. A little Minecraft in my Legend of Zelda.

There was plenty of Minecraft in the last Zelda. Too much for my taste.

Usually new upcoming games are listed for pre-order in the eShop the day they're announced.
It is unusual and I've seen others with the same complaint. Do you already have vouchers that are set to expire, or are you worried that the voucher system will be gone before they release?

I wonder if this is a way to combat leakers. (Apparently prepped web assets were how Pyoro was leaking Nintendo showcases.) At least some of the new titles Sony showed off in their showcase didn't go up for preorder immediately either.

I'm worried that they'll pull the vouchers before these games are released. I assume they will be usable on those two new games, but it's not the same thing as a guarantee.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Haven't checked myself but I saw reports that the newly announced games are up and voucher eligible.

But you might want to hold off a little bit. At least in the EU there's a promo that if you buy vouchers you get extra gold points, so if you're interested in that I'd wait maybe a day or two to see if the US gets that first.

Doesn't seem like there are any preorder bonuses or special editions for any of the games. A little disappointing but my wallet certainly thanks Nintendo.

Well they certainly could meet demand if they make it expensive enough.

They've said the same thing every generation all the way back to the Wii and we all fall for it each and every time.

I just want to know if I can transfer my games and saves from the first Switch to this new one easily, with no glitches and be able to play them well.

"I'm so sorry we underestimated demand..."

They do say they're going to try to do something about scalpers though. I mean at least put limits, but I'd think that comes down to storefronts and not them.

It would probably work here too, if they called it the Switch U.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

What exactly do you need to get a Switch? Do you have to buy a subscription to something?

Whats the total price with everything you need to basically just play games with this on a tv? Does it connect via WiFi? Bluetooth? Links to Amazon would be great. Thanks in advance.

Also, I apologize in advance for not wanting to go through 100+ pages of this thread.

A new system will be out eventually. It's best to wait right now unless you're dying to have one.

A power outlet, basically. You don’t even need a TV!

A subscription is not required. Many (all?) online games require a subscription to Nintendo Online, and I think that’s required for cloud backups too. It’s cheap, though: $19.99 a year. If you have a friend or family member with a Family Plan, they can share their account with up to 10 people, so you may be able to get it for “free” that way. (I share my Family Plan with in-laws, siblings, etc., all over the country.)

If you don’t care about online or cloud backups, literally just the cost of the Switch model you’re interested in. Don’t get a Switch Lite since that won’t work with a TV, but any other model will. If you intend to keep your Switch 100% docked, there’s no reason to pay extra for the OLED model.

(And, as mentioned above, bear in mind that there will almost certainly be a new console replacing the Switch next year. If you want the latest and greatest, consider waiting.)

WiFi by default. You could hardwire with a LAN->USB connector if you want, but there’s little reason to bother.

You can connect headphones and controllers via Bluetooth.

Seriously, though, you need nothing but the console itself to get started. It comes with a TV dock, a set of Joy-Con controllers, safety straps, a widget to turn the Joy-Cons into a more traditional controller, power adapter, and HDMI cable. Maybe a USB-C cable to charge the Joy-Cons too, but I forget.

I would recommend a carrying case (in the event you ever do travel with it) and the Pro Controller.

No need for an LED monitor. They upgraded the original Switch’s screen to an OLED one a few years ago and beefed up a few specs… that were noticeable in handheld mode. I have one, but I most play it docked.

I our household we have:

An original “launch” Switch (my 15 yo son claims this one)
A Switch Lite (Turquoise; my wife’s)
A Switch Lite (Coral; my 18 yo daughter’s)
A Switch OLED w/ white joycons (mine)
A Pokémon Scarlet/Violet themed Switch OLED (my 20 yo son’s)
