Also, do you commute a lot or do a lot of business travel? Do you see yourself using this as a mobile gaming system or just at home primarily? |

To be fair, the Switch makes upgrading storage easier than any other console. You just plop in a microSDXC card.
I heard Zelda is 13 GB though on the Switch, so if other game sizes are similar that 32 GB fills up quick. |

Japan has been and will always be the priority for Nintendo. They cater to a Japanese audience and gamer and it just does not translate to the American market well, and they really don't care what we think is a flawed gaming system. I've never missed a Nintendo launch but as of now, fuck this system. 32GB, horrid battery life, insane accessory prices, S/NES rentals? and a dreadful lineup of games... there are far too many negatives to justify dropping $300 on it. I'm actually sitting on the $300 I had already set aside for this but I think I'll just hang on to my money for something more worthwhile.... ...and maybe just get Zelda on the WiiU. |
re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Unless Nintendo somehow releases tons of killer must-have games on this (I'm talking like at least two a month), I'll be sitting it out.

My initial expectation was that the NX would be two or more distinct pieces of hardware -- one console, one handheld -- with a shared library. If I'd had the option, I would've rather been able to buy a cheap console without having to deal with the tablet.

There aren't any new tracks on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe after all; those are just the DLC from MK8. It's a nice package if you didn't already have it on the Wii U, but $60 for some new characters and Battle Mode is a tougher sell than I'd like.

After the Wii + WiiU combo of shunning the core gamer they needed to be all in on games. Where's the rumored Pikmin 4? years.
Bring back franchises that have gotten the shaft the last few Revive F-Zero, Pilotwings & WaveRace. Hell the WiiU was the perfect system for a Metroid game. The screen could have doubled as Samus' visor. They screwed the pooch on that one. Bring Samus back. Go deep and revive some really old stuff. Give us a true Kid Icarus in the vein of God of War. Play dirty like the other two companies. Throw money at third parties to make games like Beyond Good & Evil and Eternal Darkness sequels a reality and exclusive to Nintendo. Drop some money off at SquareEnix for an Actraiser revival(or exclusive Lara Croft game if you want more mainstream). Simply porting games on better looking systems or updating WiiU games isn't gonna work. They also need to hit the downloadable space hard. Get some smaller titles out there in the $10-$20 range developed by Nintendo. Games I don't need: Mario Kart, Mario Party, or any other spin-off Mario game doing XY or Z. They needed to basically create the biggest gaming showreel nerdgasm the internet's ever seen. The sizzle reel of all sizzle reels. No hiding/holding titles back for 2018-2019. SHOW people why they need a Switch NOW. Once people are in, then they can hold back info on future stuff. Nintendo of 1991 would have pulled it off. Nintendo of 2017? As just proven, notsomuch. |

I just went by Gamestop and they were taking pre-orders. They had a sign on the door that says they will only be getting 28. I went inside and two guys were pre-ordering one so now they are down to 26.
Some guy posted, late last night, that he was camping out overnight at a Gamestop. He was going to preorder the Switch and said they had 20. So, now I'm wondering why he would camp overnight when he could easily preorder with Walmart of Best Buy. Oh, he did say he was the only one there. Did Gamestop have some special incentive to preorder from them? |

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I didn't think I'd have a reason for posting in this thread, and I still don't think I'm going to buy the Switch. However, I love, love, love the No More Heroes games on Wii. Title is misleading as it's not necessarily a NMH game, but there's definitely Travis Touchdown. This could be interesting:
New No More Heroes Is Coming to Nintendo Switch “Travis Touchdown [of No More Heroes] will be making his return on Nintendo Switch,” Suda51 of Grasshopper Manufacture announced at the Nintendo Switch event. It's not clear whether or not this game will share the No More Heroes title, but Suda51 said the game with Travis is in development and is "heavily influenced by pro wrestling." |

At least you can use external storage with the system.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Almost placed a pre-order....just can't do it.
I'll wait and see what differences there are between Wii U and Switch versions of Zelda. As far as the Mario game, it'll be the same. |

Well I mentioned to my nintendo fanboy friend, that the launch was weak, and now im a nintendo hater. Oh well.

It's even worse than that when you consider that the OS is going to take up a healthy chunk of that capacity too.

I mean, maybe there's an actual Pikmin 4 on the way, but it wouldn't surprise me if Miyamoto was referring to this 3DS game.

The bizarre thing is how many 2018/2019 titles they did talk about, leaving me wondering what else Nintendo has on their schedule. I mean, if they have slick looking games as-yet-unannounced coming out in the next 12-18 months, why talk about games that are barely in production (if they've even made it to production)? I sincerely thought that so many of Nintendo's studios being so quiet for the past couple of years were making for an extremely strong 2017, and that's...just...not the case.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Seeing that the Mario game is Holiday 2017, this is an easy skip at launch for me. If there's any indication the Mario game will be on the Wii U as well, I'll just skip it entirely and get both Mario and Zelda for Wii U. Otherwise I'll pick up the system and Zelda in the fall.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
This tidbit from Kotaku's hands-on surprised me:
Playing with the JoyCons on the Grip feels great, like you’re holding a standard controller. This is going to be the ideal way to play most games: In fact, Zelda will tell you by way of a message on the bottom screen that it recommends you play with both JoyCons attached to the Grip controller. |
re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I skimmed this thread a bit and didn't see this, so I'm sorry if it was already covered...but did you guys see how the new paid Nintendo online service is going to work? Eurogamer had some info about it.
Here's Nintendo's quote: "Our new dedicated smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games ─ all from your smart device." This would also mean that voice chat is not handled by the system, but you would have to have your phone next to you with a headset plugged into it to do voicechat. Basically it would be like you are having a skype call on your phone with friends while playing the game. If so, that's just -screwy- http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...nt-sound-great |
re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I stopped by the gamestop by my work and preordered a system with the color joycons and a regular copy of Zelda. They were getting 25 systems and there were 3 people ahead of me when they opened but by the time I was done there was 20 or so people in line.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Preordered a switch this morning, when I got to work. Canceled it at my lunch break. Only thing to play is Zelda and I can get that on Wii-U. Mario looks interesting, but that doesn't come out till the end of the year. Give me a Metroid game, Pilot Wing, F-Zero, a Mario Maker, then maybe ill be interested. But as it sits now, with a kid on the way, I really can't justify it.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
When I was a kid I played my NES constantly. Then I played my N64 less. Then my Gamecube less than that. The Wii less than that and my WiiU was only touched a handful of times and put in a box. This doesn't look like it's going to change anything for me.
Just nothing about this impresses me. The portability aspect of it really only seems to work well for people who have kids and need the TV. For adults it seems similar to how XB1 was supposed to be an all in one entertainment source. It was cool the first couple times but after that you never really cared to use it anymore. And don't even get me started on the price and launch line up. So yeah this will be a definite skip for me. I agree with another poster that Nintendo doesn't care about the US market. Flukes not withstanding, I think they always know they will be third behind Sony and Microsoft whereas in Japan they can be more of a force. Sure it will sell well and have "scarcity" issues for awhile, but as long as Nintendo is able to go and keep their fan boys who have to own every console, and are still desperate to play Mario and Zelda games that's all they need. |
