Overall what a snooze fest that was. 2D Metroid side scroller looked nice, but just a mention still working on the new Prime. And a little new Zelda footage right at end, lackluster Direct otherwise.

I have to wonder what caused the Metroid game to be delayed for so long. They said it was originally in dev for the DS (not even the 3DS)? Did they intentionally shelve it till years after the Switch release?

One thing that's weird is that they don't seem to have a big game for the holidays other than a Pokemon offshoot. And if they are planning a pro upgrade, I wonder when they announce it, because I'd think there would be games or at least upgrades to go with that.

Did they announce the next Smash Bros DLC character?

Man, I didn't mind the direct but this eshop post direct sale is the highlight to me.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
In the interview in this video, Yoshia Sakamoto says the idea first came up 15 years ago, but they thought the technology back then "just couldn't properly bring the concept to life," so the idea was shelved. It was only after they saw MercurySteam's work on Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS did they think it was possible to implement what they envisioned.
Nintendo's dev cycles will never cease to entertain. Plus, all they've shown about the game which couldn't have been done on the DS is the isometric view when shooting that laser at the thing hunting you.

I highly recommend Part Time UFO which is on sale for $6.29. Fun little game.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I already had the BOTW expansion but if you don't have that or the Fire Emblem expansion, this is like one of the only times they've been on sale (still no Smash fighter pass, though).
All these are the lowest they've ever been:
If you don't have Hades, get that.
It doesn't perform as well as the bigger consoles but if you have the memory card space, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate for 23.99 seems like a steal.
Same for NBA 2k21 at 4.79
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 for 20 bucks
Slay the Spire for 12.50
Forager: 10.99
Journey to the Savage Planet: 11.99
Katamari Damacy: 7.49
those are the ones I already bought for more or that I have on my wishlist that are the lowest prices. There are a ton that are close or matching the lowest, like Xcom Collection. Honestly if this dumb thing could have bigger capacity cards I'd probably get a ton more.
Shoot, I totally glossed over Part Time UFO, thanks The Questyen.

Good news about a new side scroller Metroid, and my wife will be happy about Mario Party.
Cruisin’ could be fun, used to enjoy the arcade versions.

Is the BOTW expansion worth picking up?

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Not a bad Direct. I always want more but I was pretty happy with what we got. I'm excited for Metroid Dread, WarioWare and Advance Wars.
I pretty much have everything I wanted out of the stuff on sale. The only thing I picked up was Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns which I had been waiting to come to PS4 but 2 years later still hasn't.

I’m actually kind of interested in the new WarrioWare game. I haven’t played any of the previous ones, but now and again I enjoy mini games.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I assume it's better with online play, but still the gameplay is really limited and there's a lot of nostalgia for the title that I feel isn't entirely warranted.
If you have the chance to rent or borrow it, I might go that route instead. Or at least wait for a MAR10 or E3 sale.

The model we assumed would be the "Pro". OLED screen, better audio from the handheld, no 4k output from the dock. Sounds like all the upgrades are for handheld mode. The dock was upgraded but it doesn't have anything higher than 1080 output as with the current.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I don't really see many upgrades on there. Weak.

I loved the base game, so the DLC was a nice addition at $20. $14 is even better.
