Actually, my post was dripping with sarcasm.

Of course "tap, tap, tap" on a screen translates to a button ;)

I haven't really been following it, so I didn't know if where you tapped made any difference.

One of the core design choices is "one-handed play". Of course I'm not sure how that translates to the Kingdom Builder mode.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled Switch speculation.

Was Fallon drunk? He sure was acting like something wasn't right.

Over selling it.

All due respect, why the hell would we want to play the mobile shit on the console? The watered-down nature of that stuff is why consoles still exist as a viable segment.. so admitted gaming snobs/lifers like me can play REAL videogames and look down our noses at all that iShit.

I've played quite a few mobile ports on consoles. I bought the recent Lara Croft GO on PS4 this week and it's fantastic. I don't like playing games on my phone with the small screen so if the best of those games are easily available on my console to play on my big tv I'm happy.

Clever.

Finally watched the Fallon thing. Zelda looks promising. The console does look pretty sexy.

I don't usually have a problem With Fallon but that was kind of over the top. Seemed like genuine enthusiasm though

Does anyone know if the Nintendo Switch that Reggie showed Jimmy Fallon was an actual production system, or a prototype unit?

Whether genuine or not, Fallon's absurd enthusiasm about everything gets old pretty quickly. He tells every single guest on his show, "You're the best" and then when they're talking about some other celebrity he'll say, "Ah man, he's the best!" Jimmy, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR EVERY SINGLE PERSON EVER TO BE "THE BEST". But I digress.

The plan is for Yooka-Laylee to now hit the Switch rather than the Wii U.

After many challenging months, we’re finally able to update you on the Wii U version of Yooka-Laylee and announce a number of developments.

The Playtonic team is sad to confirm that despite our best efforts and exploring every possible avenue, we’ve encountered unforeseen technical issues that unfortunately mean it will be impossible for us to release the game on Wii U as initially planned.

Nintendo Switch
Soon to see 80% increase in nonsense puns.
We can however confirm the exciting news that we are now working very closely with Nintendo to look to bring Yooka-Laylee to the upcoming Nintendo Switch. We’re looking forward to exploring the opportunity and will have more details to share early next year.

We’d like to apologise to those affected by this development and offer all Wii U backers the opportunity to move their pledge free-of-charge to any of the versions launching on April 11th (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac or Linux) or upgrade to the Nintendo Switch version when we announce further details in 2017.

Information on how backers can change their formats will arrive in January, once we’ve finalised the smoothest possible solution. For more details on our platform change, we’ve prepared a Yooka-Laylee Wii U FAQ page.

The Playtonic team thank you for your continued support and understanding on this issue and hope you look forward to future developments on the Nintendo front. We hope, in the fullness of time, we can make Nintendo platforms a great place to experience Yooka-Laylee – and beyond.

Unveiling on January 12th! I'd link to Nintendo's tweet, but the forum won't let me.

At the awesomely convenient time of 11 PM (Eastern) for some reason.

Nintendo reveals Switch specs. Basically, less powerful than PS4/XB1. At that price-point, I don't see why anyone would have assumed otherwise.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

To be fair, it's not Nintendo revealing them, it's still rumors from someone's source. But it's not surprising since it lines up with what I mentioned earlier about the Tegra X1 (which uses Maxwell) and what's in the development kits.

Not officially, but all sources say $250 to $300.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I expected it to be less powerful than a PS4, less because it's $250 - $300 and more because it's a tablet.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I don't think that's fair reasoning. The PS4 and XB1 have both been on sale lately for $250, so if this thing launches under powered for the same price, I would say that's disappointing.

Couldn't they have engineered it to where it gets more "powerful" when docking it? Kinda like the external processor that the PSVR set uses. That way the graphics are just downgraded when you are using the tablet.

fumanstan 12-15-16 04:13 PM

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

The tablet portion is fair reasoning though. It's a massive upgrade from the 3DS? :p

Sure, but my response was with regards to the seemingly disappointment about the Switch's power compared to the PS4/XB1 in relation to price.

Rumors point to that being the case, although it sounded like just a clock speed increase because of better cooling when docked rather then a separate processor. I think adding any additional graphics or computational power would be too expensive.
