It doesn't come out until September.

Yeah, I know, but I still won't have a system to play it on unless I buy my own Switch, and that's not happening.

Good news! It's due out September 20, 2019, which means your daughter will be back in school and the Switch will be free for you to play again.

Just making sure you're not getting them confused and disappointed because of that. Because to me the remake of Link's Awakening looks somewhat similar in style to that rhythm game.

Bought Cadence of Hyrule on Friday morning and my 10yo son had it beat the next day. Took him 7.5 hours.

He liked it a lot.

Now my other kids are taking turns at it.

You can apparently play without the rhythm mechanic in "fixed-beat mode."

I bought my daughter he own Switch so that I wouldn't have to worry about that. I bought it as a months early Christmas present and made sure that she understood before I gave it to her.

FYI, Little Nightmares: Complete Edition is $9 in the Switch Store right now. The game is a bit creepy and well done... and include both versions of the game (one with Six and one with The Kid).

Have at it.

You'll enjoy it.

Nintendo reveals cheaper, smaller Switch Lite. For only $199.99, I might bite. You cannot hook it up to your TV and the joy cons don't come off.

Finally announced?

Are there any images showing the two side by side? For some reason Nintendo's website appears to be blocked for me at work. I can't reach the link in the article.

I assume that the Switch Lite and Switch will play nicely together if used by a single owner? Using networked game saves, etc.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

So this is unusable for 2 player games where you'd have a joycon each? I feel like there will be uneducated customers who don't understand that difference until after it's purchased.

Probably not going to buy one of the Lite models, at least not initially. I wonder if maybe we’ll get a new Joy Con finally that has a real d-pad though since the Lite model has that instead of the individual directional buttons. Granted I realize it’s a different design, but they must realize people want a d-pad option.

There is also the special edition Pokemon version of the Lite coming Nov. 8.

Wait, can't be hooked up to a tv? Why would they remove that functionality? Cost? That seems crazy. I thought for sure they would keep everything the same but have non detachable joycon a without the bells and whistles, which would still allow you to upgrade by buying a dock and joycon a separately. Game developers better not skimp on docked mode.

You can sync sync joycons to it so you can play joycon only games but you'll be limited to the portable screen.

Not only is the name now meaningless, so is the iconic joycon docking sound.

I can see the marketing for the new switch geared towards those 3DS only owners "Make the Switch!"

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I think the whole point of the Switch Lite is that it’s aimed more at the market that wants a handheld more, but wants something that’s smaller in size than the existing Switch.

I’m sure by having it come without docking capabilities and with no detachable Joy Cons there’s some cost cutting that they can use to price this lower than the standard Switch.

I’m guessing Nintendo figures it’s easier to just use the existing name and add Lite to differentiate it rather than coming up with something new. Especially given that the Lite plays existing Switch games.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Can anyone confirm for me that Nintendo's digital policies are still completely borked? As in, if I buy a Switch Lite and want to get a full-fat TV Switch later, I will not be able to conveniently run digital games I have bought on either machine at my leisure?

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I think the price point at $199 is too high for what is essentially a Switch limited to hand-held mode only. I've seen regular switches go for like $250 at select retailers. So why not fork out an extra $50 to not be limited to one mode?
I feel like $150 would be a better price point for what it is and probably entice more people to actually get it, but then this is Nintendo we're talking about... people are going to buy it regardless.

This seems more geared towards people who're either completely disinterested in dock mode, or rich enough that tossing another $200 at something means nothing.

As for someone like me who has to pinch their money, I still haven't forked over the cash for the mainline Switch, even though I've wanted one for several months. Hoping a good Black Friday sale happens this year.

Seems a little pricey for all the things they stripped out.
My kid totes around our regular one all the time and it's not too big.

I mean realistically there’s no way they were going to cut the price in half this early. The Switch is only a little over a couple years old and is thriving. There’s no need for a price drop and already knocking off $100 for the Lite model (minus some of the features of the original model) is a pretty big discount. You might be seeing sale prices for a Switch at $250 or maybe used but they’re still $300 new. You could barely get a 3DS XL for $150 until recently after the Switch released. I honestly don’t think $200 is that bad of a price really. Especially if a person doesn’t already own a Switch. If you do this is just another option if you really want it.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

The 3DS launched at $249 so I don't understand the price complaints. That's not a bad price for a souped up handheld. I only play docked with a pro controller so I have no interest in it but it's good that they are giving people options.
