Thanks! Once I unlocked the shard shop, I didn't even know how to get them. Then I had one character at 6* and 99/100, and since the odds didn't seem good for finding one more shard, I just bought five and figured four would be wasted. But then I went to the shop and saw I could redeem them. I hadn't done the math but the return looked pretty small, like 300 of those gems for only two shards. Maybe someday I can go for Grievous...

Once in a while Vader shows up in there, and the general consensus is that he's worth spending some shards on since he's so rare, but otherwise, just save them for Grievous.

Keep at it. Eventually characters get maxed. Today I finish everything the GW store has to offer (though I haven't actually promoted everyone to 7*). I get shards all the time bronze drops and finishing GW as well as events for characters I've already maxed and they go right into the shard shop.
Vader shows up and you should always buy him, even if that means your day's Arena and GW income goes to shards to convert for him.
If Vader isn't in my shop on a day, 3 or 4 of the people being offered I've already maxed. I'm going to have no choice but to start getting Grievous.

Mine is Phasma (L), QGJ, GS, Daka and Rey.
When things get really tough I switch out Daka for Lumi, who's stronger. I just play with Daka because I love the double stun.

For GW, I've started using my A team on node 1:
Teebo (L), QGJ, Rey, Phasma, Daka
Then I use my B team from nodes 2 through ?:
Chirpa (L), Teebo, EE, EScout, 86
I do this because I like the ewoks but they can't cut through the tough ones near the end so eventually I need to swap in the heroes to deal with taunts and counters more effectively. Having run them in node 1 gives them TM for the advantage in the later nodes.

I'm working on Daka and Leia these days. I have 10k Squad Arena credits to use on Leia and I'm slowly working on Daka thru Cantina credits.
I have over 17k GW credits to burn too... nobody really stands out to me to waste them on. I'm hoping the GW shop gets updated with an awesome character soon.

It costs 330 shards to take a character from 0 to 7*.
Without spending crystals to refresh the GW store, you can only buy 20/day if you hit all 4 6-hour windows.
This means it takes 16.5 days to max a new GW character (22 if you miss a free daily refresh).
If you complete GW each day, you get enough tokens to buy 15/day.
If you plan to hit every free daily refresh window, you only need 16-17 purchases (1/day) worth of bank to most efficiently max a character. This means you only need to carry a balance of 8,000 until that character shows up.
Obviously if you can't complete GW each day, you would need to double or triple that bank based on your income.

All of that to say: there's no reason to carry a balance of 20k in GW currency.
If you don't like anyone in there right now, look at who is useful for events or mod challenges.
If still no one floats your boat, consider spending on already-maxed characters to convert your GW tokens to shard shop tokens to (very inefficiently) speed up characters you are farming elsewhere.

There will be a new character, no doubt. It won't be more than one though. I do recommend having enough bank to compliment your daily GW income to get that character as quickly as possible. Any more than that is just waste.

I just don't agree with you. There is no sense in buying shards just to buy shards. At this point, I could just about max a toon with what I have sitting around almost immediately. They are going to add 1 or more people to GW shop (they have to, many people are like you and have nothing more to buy) and I want to be able to jump on them immediately. Or just transfer to shards for the shop. Either way, buying shards for characters I'll never use doesn't appeal to me.

I also don't know if they won't add multiple GW toons. As you know, most Nov/Dec shard players have maxed out the shop. Most are now holding tokens too. If you just add one character, you face the same issue in just 22 days. Less if people refresh.
In a pipe dream world, I would love for them to rotate shops. Even moving arena to GW would be amazing.

Now that I have two 7* characters, I accidentally did some damage in the last raid. So now should I not just jump in but wait for a wave or something?
Two of my top characters are Asajj (7*) and Talia (4*), but it doesn't look like anyone is using them at a high level. I do have Leia, Qui Gon Jinn, and Phasma that I'm trying to build up to be able to use them, and it looks like Vader should be a lower priority. Lumi, Geonosian Soldier, Rey, and Royal Guard are my other top characters, with CW Chewbacca and Jedi Consular filling in here and there.

You should still join Phase 1 just don't do damage. Only bring 1 character and it should suffer a quick beat down. I always bring Eeth and he promptly takes his hits like a champ.
This will get you on the board with 0 points and will guarantee you rewards. then, wait for the P1 all clear and join in during P2-P4 (ideally P2 though if your schedule permits).
Game meta changes periodically however these characters you have or are working towards will serve you well: QGJ, GS, Lumi, Phasma, Leia, RG, and Rey. From the stores, I'd focus on QGJ from Cantina, Leia from Arena, and Phasma / Lumi from GW. You can get Rey shards from the Guild store once you join some raids. Farm GS from Cantina nodes. Having said that, I defer to Pinata, Josh and Chase as they are way better with strategy in this game than I am. I just follow their lead.

With the Emperor challenge, I'm spending tons on Stormtrooper Han and Biggs. I still won't get enough 7* characters to completely get thru the challenge though....
