I fell onto this strategy and it was seconded by this guy from Reddit. It makes alot of sense if you believe GW is scaleable.
"Start your GW battles with your lowest ranking team that's capable of beating the first match. The rest of your matches will progress according to how high the stats are for your team. I've tested this time and time again. Don't start out with your strongest team or they will through lvl 70 geared out teams at you. "
I can say that it seems to ring true for me. I usually start out with a pretty crap team to save my big guys for later and I never realized it could actually be helping me!

Oh, and I forgot, I'm already under 200 in arena rank, 188 currently. This last GW I didn't fight a single guy with purple gear... so I don't know how the hell they figure out GW difficulty.

I think people just overthink GW. Take your strong team. Don't be afraid to retreat and try a different tactic. Don't blow through your powers as a battle is in hand. Let them recharge.

This has been my typical GW experience lately... I hit a stacked team around midpoint. Today's team = 67 Sid *7 purple, 64 JC 4* purple, 66 Chewie 5* purple, 65 Dooku 5* purple, 66 Talia 5* purple. The other days I faced pretty much the same team. I am level 57 with 5, level 57 heroes, only 3 decked out in purple VII gear.
I brought out the squaddies first to use up that team's specials... most spent them (Dooku, Sid, JC blast). My A-Team then proceeds to get annihilated.
Also regarding Arena... What is your team's power level? I'm around 16k and I'm very lucky to find a team that isn't 18k or more in Arena! And I'm only rank 1400. I must be on a very competitive server. Probably a bunch of whales, lol!
Anyway, it is getting frustrating as the grind is already bad and now it is slowed even more for me (GW progression). I was going to buy some gems and roll the dice on an 8pk Chromium too. Not anymore.

The GW matchmaking is inconsistent. Some people never see difficult matches. Some people get monsters. When I get a monster team, it comes after multiple hard teams before it. The hard teams require all of my best characters. They get hurt. Their heals get used. Then they're sitting in front of the monster.
I'm level 57. Never been above 300 in arena. I've only been hit with one monster that I couldn't beat, but most of my Wars have been difficult for some time now. I'm also getting hit with very poor shard drop rates. Cantina shard drop rate for today is about 14%. Really sapping a lot of the fun out.

Are Mace shards like impossible to get? I've simmed 20 times between Cantina and his one light side node and have gotten one shard.

RNG is a bitch sometimes. Hopefully if you go three times without a shard you are backing out to home or doing something else to reset RNG. And when you are hitting it, you are keeping going. Or doing the battle on AUTO rather than SIM. All of this has an effect and can take you from an unfavorable node to a favorable one.

I've been pretty successful in farming Mace from Cantina, but I've also been doing 2 refreshes (300 crystals) per day. Mine hit 5* yesterday and is 8/85 to 6*.

Unlocked Mace Friday i think, so was able to get through stage 4 for Yoda. Going to have to wait for the next go round as there is no way i'll be able to get 3 jedi's from 4* to 5* before it ends. Currently at 10/65 for Mace, 10/65 for QGJ and 9/65 for Ahsoka.
Did finally get Lumi and DS to 7 stars, running out of credits and training droids now though. 1M for the 7* upgrade is rough.
Switching focus to Phasma in GW and either SO or one of the droids in Arena. Guessing a Sith or Droid event will hit at some point in future.

I think I'm done with the daily challenges that don't provide mats, droids, or credits. The gear ones don't give me anything worth the effort any more. My teams can auto-win even the highest tiers, but I have surpluses of hundreds of the 9 gear types they drop. Not worth the time and now I can't even sell the excess.
I switched to QGJ as leader in GW because I'm still using Lumi and JC in there so the speed boost seems to be helping decimate the opponent and bring the massive heals back more quickly. He's just a little squishy for me at 4* even though he's level 70 and nearly in gear 8.
