No official release date yet and not even confirmation if this'll be localized for the U.S., but...geez! These PS4 screenshots sure are pretty.

But the gameplay will still be exactly the same... (I love DQ but it's not exactly progressive in it's gameplay design).

I'm not entirely sure what you can change in a traditional JRPG, unless you make it another shitty "Collect all of these!" game.

Final Fantasy changed for the worse, Western RPGs are padded with so much boring crap but somehow convincingly sold as "open world exploring!", Monster Hunting/Collecting titles are played out, I dunno where they could go.

I would like another franchise like Zelda or Crystalis though, that's be nice.

But that's the charm of the thing. I think if they messed with it at this point the entire Japanese population would riot.

Yeah, I'm not advocating a change, but at this point the graphical improvements are just put on top a pretty much basic (though charming) JRPG structure, which is why I think Western audiences haven't flocked to it as much as, say, Japan. But yeah, no way they can change it, their core audience is set. I'm just hoping they do more with the hardware, otherwise I was perfectly fine playing it on portables.

I didn't mind so much the streamlining that Final Fantasy XIII did to the JRPG genre. Yeah the paths were mainly linear, but most JRPGs have very basic path layouts anyway, and streamlining the equipment and letting you heal after every battle took away some of the monotony. Absolutely hated that it took so long to get to the "real" gameplay, though. But for all the hate the series gets, they do a decent job of changing things up.

I'll be getting that on the PS4.

Yes it is, well it's their next thing, whatever it is.

"NX" is also just a codename for now.

Several folks at Nintendo have offhandedly referred to it as a console (Reggie explicitly called it a "home console" a couple months back), although with some of the other things they've said, it could be more of a 'platform' encompassing multiple pieces of hardware (handheld, console).

I don't think they ever released Dragon Quest Warriors 2 on the switch here either, and I have no idea why.

Sucks that they aren't localizing the 3DS version. I guess the VII & VIII remakes didn't do too well in the sales department. Still thrilled to be getting this on PS4. That's a day one purchase for me.

This launches today and is getting amazing reviews across the board. My pre-loaded copy in Steam was taunting me all day yesterday. Of course, now I'm back at work when it's available to play.

Not sure if anyone else is excited as I am for this release but I can not wait to get home and load it up.

And just got a text message that the Best Buy I pre-ordered at doesn't have the game. Second time in a row this has happened so I am pretty fucking pissed and may just say screw my GCU Discount and give someone else my money.

I think there's still a chance. They released it on the 3ds, so it's not like it's just all technical hurdles, but I do with they'd say one way or another because I would have bought it day 1 on PS4 if they said they definitely weren't going to support switch.

I pre-ordered a phone from BB the day orders went live. On release day they didn't have my phone and had no ETA, and they didn't seem to give much if a shit one way or the other either. Taking orders they can't fill is such a bad practice and I can't believe places still do that.

Dragon Quest looks great, and I'm really looking forward to giving it a shot. I don't care much for the Anime asthetic, it just isn't my thing, but word of mouth has been real positive so far, and I just discovered this year that I like turn based combat mechanics a whole bunch.

There'll be some downtime between Spiderman and Red Dead, and I think I'll pick this up around then.

Just waiting for UPS to deliver my copy and I'm getting started on this. Will break my hiatus from PS4 gaming.

This and the Resident Evil 2 remake are my most anticipated games right now.
Good thing for me they're also being released on PC.
