GTA V felt more like a slider bump on better hardware.

I guess it's more that I'm tired of publishers focusing on them. It feels like a cheap diversion from the fact that they're not putting out a lot of quality new titles. I mean, we're a year and a half into this generation and it feels like we're significantly behind previous generations in terms of great new games for the systems. Maybe that's looking at the past with rose tinted glasses, but this far into last gen, I don't recall half the major titles being remasters of Xbox and ps2 games.

Good write up on MS and their E3 promises from last year and how they did on them: http://kotaku.com/one-year-later-did...eir-1710465369

It is. Remasters don't halt or slow production of new titles. Just this year we've had several high-quality new titles including Bloodborne, Dying Light, and Witcher 3, with the new Arkham game coming in 2 weeks. That's half the GOTY list already done, and the year is not even halfway over with a busy holiday release schedule yet to come.
- Gears of War - Oblivion - Saints Row - Dead Rising - Marvel Ultimate Alliance - F.E.A.R. - Condemned - Crackdown - Lost Planet - Resistance - Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction - Warhawk - Metal Gear Solid IV - Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2 You look at current gen games that are of a similar or better level of quality and you’ve got: - Dead Rising 3 - Infamous: Second Sun - Sunset Overdrive - Bloodborne - Dying Light - The Witcher 3 - Batman: Arkham Knight And that’s about it. I guess you could argue for the inclusion of multi-gen games like Alien: Isolation, Far Cry 4, etc., but last time around, we didn’t see this degree of keeping one foot in the past. Not to mention, the holiday season two years in, which is where we’ll be at the end of the year, had: - Bioshock - Assassin’s Creed - Mass Effect - The Orange Box - Rock Band - COD 4: Modern Warfare That absolutely slays what we’ve got coming this year. |
Re: The Official E3 Thread of Xbox One Superiority - June 16-18, 2015
There was a lot less cross generational material during the last transition and we have a lot more established franchises that are still going strong.
There was definitely more hesitation this time around in jumping off a lucrative console and going exclusively to one with 1/10th the install base. I still don't feel like they're wasting their times per se, teams are huge these days and it isn't one team doing all the releases. Leaving off titles like Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, Forza Horizons 2, Need for Speed: Rivals, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and Far Cry 4 just because they're cross-gen is silly. Sure, they're cross generational, but the One/PS4 versions are much better, and Publishers didn't drag their feet with those titles, they're simply investing smartly. Them being cross gen certainly didn't hurt the titles. |

Are they really much better? Granted, they're prettier, but Shadow of Mordor is the only one you listed where I know of a substantial difference between the current and last gen versions. And honestly, while some of these look great on PS4, I've been surprised to see them running on a friend's 360 and looking closer than I'd expected to what I experienced when playing on PS4. Thinking specifically of Black Flag, Wolfenstein and Far Cry 4.
The games are fairly similar mind you on both, all I'm saying is they aren't really holding back despite what others tend to believe. The only game that had to be completely re-done to work on a previous gen thus far is Titanfall. All I'm getting at is this isn't like last generation where the Xbox 360 could run an almost PC direct version of Call of Duty 2 while the Xbox couldn't (they wound up with a console specific version of the franchise which was a huge step down). Where as the Xbox 360 and PS3 still can keep up with PC direct versions, they just get lower resolutions and have the sliders turned down. |

Arbitrary list is kind of arbitrary...and lacks Uncharted (2007).

It's not great, but cheesy fun. It's $9.99 currently on the PS4 now as well

Re: The Official E3 Thread of Xbox One Superiority - June 16-18, 2015
Is Spike not covering E3 like they have in year's past? I checked my TV Guide on my remote it's only showing the Microsoft press conference and an hour of E3 Live on Monday afternoon and that's it. Nothing for the rest of the day and nothing for Tuesday or Wednesday.
|
Re: The Official E3 Thread of Xbox One Superiority - June 16-18, 2015
Spike doesn't care anymore. Cops reruns make more money.
In other news, Phil Spencer of Xbox confirms that Scalebound, Quantum Break and Crackdown won't be at E3. Couple that with Phantom Dust imploding, and they still want us to think they're going to show the best ever Xbox lineup? Gears remastered, Halo 5 and Forza 6? No. |
Re: The Official E3 Thread of Xbox One Superiority - June 16-18, 2015
Well, that announcement said, "See the greatest games lineup in Xbox history"
Therefore, my totally logical and verified* prediction is this: At E3, Spencer talks about things we already know: - Stream Xbox One games to PC on local wifi - Stream Xbox One games to Oculus Rift for virtual HT experience. - "One Windows" means games designed for Windows 10 can easily be recompiled for Xbox One, and vise versa. Then the bombshells (unless these are already announced/rumored?): - Stream ANY PC game to Xbox One on local wifi Via the Xbox app, all PC games can stream to Xbox One at up to 1080p/30fps, but all processing done by the PC, so if you have a gaming rig, you'll get PC-quality details. Bonus: some sort of back-end support for your Steam library... but unlikely. - PC / Xbox Cross-buy All newly released digital purchases after the launch of Windows 10 will be cross-buy between Xbox One, and the Xbox app on PC. Company line will be, "Buy once, play on any W10 device, any way you like." So if you stream from a powerful device to a less powerful device, you get the quality of the former. If you want to run it natively, you get the quality of the device you're using without having to buy it twice. Microsoft will end by saying something like, "All of your Windows games on your Xbox One; truly the greatest lineup in Xbox history." They will then say, "And we have one more thing to show you before we go." Lights go dark. Big screen turns on, and... Spoiler:

Streaming PC games to the Xbox One on local wifi would realistically only work consistently well if you had the latest Wireless AC router and the Xbox One was hardwired into it.
At least, that's been my experience with other such features  |

yes, they've shown a video of Crackdown 3, iirc. not gameplay, but cinematic video.

I could see Microsoft making E3 2015 a platform for games that will be released within the next 6-12 months alongside some teasers of currently unannounced titles. Anything that has been announced already, but not within that time table, will be saved for Gamescom. |
