Oh well, another high profile game gets bad reviews. Onto the next 100 games coming out.

yah, gives me time to catch up on TV shows & movies until FF Type-0. I'll catch up with it eventually on PS+ or Christmas sales.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

That'd disappointing, I was completely aboard the hype train for this. There's some reviews that make it sound like it would still be some mindless fun, but obviously an under $20 game. Basically like Ryse.

It also sounds like something that might have been more forgiving closer to console launch opposed to over a year later.

How does this happen? I get the hype machine... but this seems like one of the more colossal fails in years.

So what are the other big exclusives this year? Bloodborne and Uncharted? I'm sure we'll get some indie stuff as well, but I would like to see some big surprises at E3. I wonder if they could squeeze out GT7 out this year (or at least GT6 remastered).

I wonder if the devs knew it was going to be received like this. Not that they could do anything about it so late in the game - wasn't it already delayed once?

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

This game would be better by:

A. Making the games "choices" have a little more effect on the outcome than they do as of now. Holding a guy's wrist while pushing him against the wall while waiting for you to hit the X button is not a choice.

B. Making a more interconnected story that involves Lycans but goes further than that requiring exploration and investigation rather than being taken by Amtrak from point A to point Z. They could have woven together 3 major plot points than involved the Lycans, opened up the map so that almost anywhere can be investigated at any time and threw in battles and action set pieces where some are scripted while others are random.

Plus, I don't get why they created that cast of characters if only one of them is really of any significance to you, the player. It just seems to me like there was too much confidence in this from the beginning by the developers without really knowing what they wanted to create and how to get the most out of it.

We still got the new Batman and Witcher 3. Surely, Witcher 3 won't suck.

Yikes, I didn't think this game would get 5's and 6's. I mean, they are well deserved, but I assumed 7's for being a Sony exclusive. Not sure why anyone ever thought it would be good, looked bad from the start to me...

5-6 hours of game play isn't terrible if 60% of it isn't movies and the rest isn't generic gameplay.

Fwiw, this is just the beginning of another bad year of PS exclusives, so hold onto your butts!

Oh, I know there are more games coming out. That's why I said exclusives specifically.

Well, there's Bloodbourne which is a very niche title like the Dark Souls games. I'm personally not a fan of those games but it should get ok reviews. God awful frame rate when I saw it last though.

I really liked Until Dawn, the horror "game" but you really don't play, just move a character around and make quick QTE button choices.

That's it unless you love old PS3 remasters....

"I spent much of last year on these adventures, venturing everywhere from Mordor and Sunset City, to Los Santos and a near-future Chicago, searching out every tiny detail. It sometimes could be exhausting. The overwhelming number of options in these games turned them into huge toy boxes that, in most cases, I knew I'd never actually finish. Just looking at the mini-map in Assassin's Creed: Unity made me tired."

lol! I agree 100%.

I only come to speak the truth...people choose not to listen. Believe me, I WISH they would start making good games this generation. We all do.

That depends, are they Uncharted related?

Stu has an opinion and a bit of access, and I consider his posts to be useful intel. He has an obvious slant, but at least he's up front about it.

It's certainly nothing to get panties all twisted over.

And I agree with stu that the game never looked very good. QTEs and cover shooting? Maybe in 2008.

Agreed on QTEs, but Gears of War with this setting? Sign me up.

So if this was priced at $50 or even $40 would there be an uproar?

Probably. It goes into the argument that gamers are mainly whiners.

It's starting to seem like gamer's expectations have become too inflated. We want gorgeous visuals, but completely unique gameplay. If we get great gameplay, but weak story then we complain.

I remember ppl bitching about Ready at Dawn's last GOW game. It had awesome visuals and good length, but ppl complained about the story and the repetitious gameplay. I enjoyed the heck out of that game, and will probably enjoy this one as well. Screw the reviewers.

Gamer expectations have always been all over the place, hence all the whining; people look for and enjoy different things in games, have different expectations for length and value, and put different weight on story versus game play versus graphics. Even reviewers don't always agree, as it's still just one guy's opinion over another so it's really about looking at the reviews to see if there's content that you might find enjoyable. I don't really pin that all on reviewers in general (although there are certainly good and bad ones). Hell, The Order has a bunch of reviews 80 and above as well as some in the 60's and below.

Not to mention other factor's that the Verge quote kind of hints at; if you're a gamer that just spent hundreds of hours on different open world games, it might be more enjoyable at the time to play something pretty and mindless. Or vice versa, if you just played something with an epic story and game play, playing something like this right after makes it look dumb as bricks in comparison.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

I've decided to go ahead and get this. After the frustrations (and enjoyment) of dealing with the open world in Dying Light and trying to get some of the glitched achievements, I think this will be at least an enjoyable break from that. Yes, I have enjoyed running around Harran slaying zombies like a pimp on 110th street but some of the bugginess of the game and ADD inducing overload has me thinking more along the lines that this game will be that needed break. Hell, I'm kind of dreading finishing the rest of the 50 or so side quests that I have remaining while trying to work around glitched achievements. At least this game looks fairly enjoyable, short in length and hopefully, has achievements that don't require some magical workaround or having to go out of your way in order to get them unlocked.
