They had about 20 of these at Best Buy the other day. I think they're pumping these out now.

Yeah the GameStop I was at probably had about twenty of the green Yoshi's too. I think the Amiibo figures sell pretty well just as collectibles and not necessarily for game use so I'm guessing more people probably wanted the green one over the blue or pink but may have not wanted the game.

re: Amiibo figurine discussion (Wii U / New 3DS / Switch)

Was able to pick up a Mega Yarn Yoshi today at Toys R Us. I got there about 30 to 40 minutes before opening and there were already a number of people in front of me. I'd say the store had no more than 20 in stock.

One thing that was a little frustrating was there was this one family a couple of people in front of me that consisted of a mother, father, three daughters, and a son. Each of them got a Mega Yarn Yoshi and one of the employees mentioned to another employee after they left that they wouldn't allow something like that to happen again. It was clear that this husband and wife brought their four children to assist in getting as many Mega Yarn Yoshis as possible in order to resell them later and bypass the "one per person" rule. It sucked for the people behind me who didn't get one as a result of their selfish behavior.

I haven't been following a lot of the amiibo stuff before, but do the figures unlock certain things in the games? I was thinking of trying to hunt down the toon Link if it unlocked something in Wind Waker.

Some games, like Hyrule Warriors, but not Wind Waker.

The Animal Crossing ones seem pretty plentiful, guess they'll be more like the Mario party ones than the SSB series.

That sucks, but I don't see how Toys R' Us or any other store can't prevent this. For almost every rule, there is a loophole and that family most likely used it. They won't be able to enforce a "one per family" or something along those lines because it's simply too hard.

The only ones that can do something about this is Nintendo. They need to simply increase the production to satisfy the demand. This Amiibos are supposed to be for gaming, not collectability. They are catering to the collectors' market (and the scalpers that this brings) instead of being the gaming company they are supposed to be.

re: Amiibo figurine discussion (Wii U / New 3DS / Switch)

They have been increasing production, I think I've seen all the early "rare" amiibo said in stores in the past few weeks. The scarcity, whether artificial or not, did create a frenzy though. Considering these things are mostly useless functionality-wise, I think if they overproduced it would have been dead in the water. How much demand was there for the non rare ones (like Mario Party)? Take out the collectibility aspect and do these things sell half as well? I kinda doubt it. Are people really buying a mega yarn yoshi for some in game functionality? I doubt it, isn't it the exact same as the smaller yarn yoshi? If so, isn't this basically only for the collector's market anyway?

I think at a recent iPhone launch some guys were paying off homeless people to stand in line.

People are buying mega yarn yoshi because yoshi is awesome! They need an entire line of yarn amiibos. I stopped collecting amiibos but I would buy all the yarn ones!

I don't think that the figures being collectibles was necessarily the intention at first. I'm guessing they're finding that people are willing to just buy them as collectibles because they're pretty nice and official Nintendo products though so I can't blame them for capitalizing. They should increase production though rather than making certain ones limited. That's a pet peeve of mine with any collectible product.

I think they could make it a one per household rule, if they wanted, on a corporate level. I also don't know of anything that says a store has to sell you something, although I could be wrong about that. I think they should've said one per kid and not let the parents get the extra two without some sort of explanation.

Retailers won't let one per household happen either because that could also mean that they will get stuck with unsold inventory because of this rule. And yes, many states have consumer rules that if a store has an item marked for a price, and the customer has the money, they can't refuse to sell it unless it is something that requires proof of a certain age, like alcohol, tobacco, or porn, for example.

Also, the hassle of trying to limit this to one per household is too much trouble for an item that retails for $12.99. And letting the kid buy one but not the parent is certainly a little bit wrong, since a lot of parents in this era are gamers too.

Again, I agree that what the family did certainly sucks because they are most likely scalpers. Nintendo has started to increase the supplies like it has been mentioned in this thread, so shortages and unsatisfied customers don't happen anymore.

Picked up one of the modern color 8 Bit Mario figures from Walmart tonight. They had quite a few of them and I thought it looked pretty cool so decided to add it to my collection. Really like these figures just as display pieces.

Really love these damn things Picked up Bowser and Donkey Kong tonight so I'm up to five. More than I thought I'd pick up but they're well priced and decent little figurines.

I'm tired of walking in a store and seeing every Skylander, Infinity & Dimensions figs known to man and turning to the Amiibo display only to see the same 5 Mushroom Kingdom characters(Mario, Bowser, Peach, Luigi & Yoshi) rotting on the pegs.

Nintendo sucks at distribution.

Yeah agreed. The only place I find a good variety is at GameStop. Everywhere else it's basically Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and recently Splatoon characters.

I broke down a picked up a few Animal Crossing amiibos along with the game. It was all discounted at Amazon, so I guess Animal Crossing isn't getting much love.

Yeah, they're pretty much shelf-warming hard. It doesn't help that the Super Smash Bros completionists don't care about them, and the two games they do support are pretty lackluster.

Ugh, now I wonder how those amiibo card packs are selling, and if I'm going to be out of luck getting the second series.

Good. Now I can hopefully find Bowser at a decent price and not have to wait for the sets to be clearanced out next year.

Picked up Diddy Kong from GameStop tonight. I also noticed an advertisement while I was there for a deluxe edition of the Mega Man Legacy Collection for 3DS that features a gold Rock (Mega Man) Amiibo figure. Almost tempted to pick up a 3DS for it (although I already downloaded the game for X-Box One).

New Animal Crossing Amiibos In March.

Nintendo has announced a new wave of Animal Crossing Amiibos for March as well as the fact that Digby can be bought as a standalone figure.

Timmy & Tommy (one figure), Kapp'n, and Rover will be available on March 18 (Amiibos are not pictured).

Also coming in March are the previously announced Ryu, Roy, and R.O.B. (Famicom colors) figures.

In other Amiibo news, Nintendo has also announced that the Mario and Sonic Amiibos are compatible with Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on 3DS (March 18). The figures enable the in-game characters to boost their outfits for the day.

Roy is a Gamestop exclusive (at least initially), right? 4 bucks for shipping, ugh.
