Re: Amiibo figurine discussion (Wii U / New 3DS / Switch)

The Toys R Us near me always seems to have a metric ton. (Weirdly, they had several racks of Callie and Marie last week when I couldn't find one of those figures online without a massive markup.) Target and Best Buy seem okay for new-ish releases but don't offer too much beyond that and the usual peg-warmers. Both have cut way down. It's been a while since I looked at the Walmart near me, but it was the same story there, although they did have a few older ones, including some long-unavailable Zelda ones (that we gone by the time I realized they were long-unavailable ). I haven't looked at GameStop in ages.

I only have 5: Olimar, Chibi-Robo, Shovel Knight, Pikmin, and Wolf Link (came with my Twilight Princess Wii U game).

Gamestop got a batch of the SSB Link amiibo. It's showing available at most locations near by and for shipping. I believe you can also use FREESHIP code on the site.

This is the one that sold out once BOTW came out because it drops Epona.

This was just a few months ago and I already have almost 40. I've only been picking up ones I'm actually interested in and most of them I got from local used game stores.

PIcked up the wedding Mario from Super Mario Odyssey. I love the game so I’m probably going to get Peach and Bowser soon too. Also want to get the Koopa Troopa and a Goomba eventually.

Yes, there's an NFC chip in part of the cereal box that acts as an Amiibo.

The Peach one has the oddest pose, though...

I picked up the Detective Pikachu amiibo today and I knew they said it was larger than a regular amiibo but it was way larger than I was imagining. It's pretty awesome. Too bad the game isn't coming to Switch also.

I got the game for 3DS just this evening. Haven’t popped it in yet though. I wanted to get the Detective Pikachu Amiibo but didn’t expect it to be so big either and didn’t really want to shell over $30 for it.

Re: Amiibo figurine discussion (Wii U / New 3DS / Switch)

I swung by Best Buy yesterday and their amiibo section was completely gone. And Target got rid of theirs as well. So are these things pretty much dead now? Are we down to Walmart and Gamestop selling them now.

Re: Amiibo figurine discussion (Wii U / New 3DS / Switch)

My local Walmart has a shell of a section for amiibo, and they were finally clearancing out the Animal Crossing and Mario ones that will no doubt fill a landfill near ET mountain soon. I really hope BB doesn't get rid of them, if only because of GCU (but as long as Amazon sells them, I think they'll be around, until they pick a fight with Nintendo again).

Re: Amiibo figurine discussion (Wii U / New 3DS / Switch)

Have Nintendo released any Amiibo since November?

Even though sales of Amiibo figures were up in the FY that just ended, they're still down almost 60% from where they were a couple years ago.

I can’t remember when they released but the Goomba and Koopa Troopa ones came out not too long ago.

Re: Amiibo figurine discussion (Wii U / New 3DS / Switch)

Those were October.

But still, in the eight months between the BotW Champion series in Nov. and Marina/Pearl figures coming in July, there's literally only been one figure released. If interest is waning anyway, and if Nintendo is reluctant to release anything new, I can't say I blame stores for cutting back. They can always make more space when the time comes.

Cutting back? I'm pretty sure they barely stocked any of the newer ones, I never saw the Metroid, Goomba, etc. in stores at all. The only ones I saw were the BotW ones, and even then sporadically. AC and those abysmal tie in games really killed the line by shelf warming.

Yep, I think I saw one Koopa Troopa at GameStop. It sold before I got it and I haven’t seen one since. Never saw the Goomba. I saw the Detective Pikachu at both Target and GameStop but I think each place only had one, maybe two. I wanted that one before I realized how much bigger than normal it was.

I have to admit that I didn't keep an eye out for those.

The one store near me with a huge Amiibo selection was Toys R Us (I even found a Callie/Marie 2-pack around the time Splatoon 2 came out, and those things were impossible to find even online at a reasonable price), and...well, you know how the state of things there now.

I absolutely agree about misfires like Animal Crossing killing things dead. They also went back to the same couple of wells too frequently.

Re: Amiibo figurine discussion (Wii U / New 3DS / Switch)

Ridley, Inkling Girl, and Wolf are coming on 12/7 with a higher MSRP - $15.99.

A bunch of the earlier Smash Amiibo are being re-released at some point this year -- no date, no list of characters -- for the usual $12.99.

I'm still waiting for the Shovel Knight Trilogy of figures to get a release date. I've had them preordered from BB for quite along time.

Same here. I still collect the one's for characters/series I'm interested in. I'm up to about 80. I preordered the Ridley and will preorder the Wolf when it's available.

Is that verified for America too? I know they announced the older Smash Amiibo for Japan, and also that they're going back to do other smash classic characters (or I guess current characters since the new game has everyone). The smash line has been the most popular by far, so it makes sense with a new iteration coming out.

But who is going to stock them here? Amazon and Gamestop?

On a side note, I got my daughter the Detective Pikachu giant Amiibo with the game, and she already finished the game without even opening it.

I wish Detective Pikachu would have been normal sized.

Ah, I saw the tweet that confirmed the re-releases for the US.

The three new ones are up for preorder at Best Buy, if you still have GCU active it's still the cheapest.
