Re: Recent regret purchases...
I got Civ 5 with all DLC/Expansions off of Steam during the winter deals. I had never played a Civ game, but I knew that it is a VERY popular franchise. I played for a couple of hours and I am lost for the most part. The learning curve is damn steep. I definitely regret getting it. Maybe I will go back later and give it another go. Probably won't though.
You might want to try Civilization Revolution on the consoles. It is very easy to get into. I think it was also ported to iPad.

Note recent at all, but I still regret buying a Wii. I doubt I've played it more than five hours total in the five years I've owned it.

Not really recent, but Skyrim. Probably put only 12-15 hours into it and lost interest. This was also the last AAA Steam game I purchased at full price. These days I just wait until sales, so even if I get a game I don't like or play too much, I don't regret it since I paid significantly less for it than new.

I went a bit crazy and purchases 10 digital titles from last summers Xbox Live ultimate sale, and have played roughly 30% of them since. I doubt I'll ever start most of them. I also bought GTA 5 on release day and didn't touch it until it was on sale everywhere for about 35-40 bucks. I enjoyed that game though and actually finished the main story.

I'll second this and throw in my PS3 Eye and Move gear or whatever the heck it was called. Had to have the newest controller technology as it's gonna change gaming! I used it for 10 minutes to demo to the kids and they NEVER picked it up after that.

Those aren't exactly recent, though if we're going that far back, the 360 Kinect was a waste for me. I liked but could've lived without Dance Central, and the rest were either tech demos or crud. I can't remember the last game I played that was worse than Steel Battallion.

Call of Duty: Ghosts - it was my free game in a B2G1, so I guess it wasn't a purchase. Still, what an awful experience it is to play that, especially since it's been out since November and I just started a week ago. I'm done with it now.
Xbox One (close to launch) - I hate the TV integration. I hate the voice commands. I hate Kinect. I (almost) hate the controller, especially the bumpers. My wife uses it to watch Netflix and Hulu with the kids. I've only bought two games, DR3, which was okay, and...
Titanfall (Xbox One ver) - I've had connectivity issues that have kept me from playing this game since I bought it. I'd maybe played 5 hours or so before just giving up.

Shit, I totally forgot about the Wii. Yeah, that is highest on my list now. I'm pretty sure the only game I played to completion is SMG. Everything else felt unplayable because of the controls.

Re: Recent regret purchases...
This isn't really a regret, but I bought The Unfinished Swan for really cheap a few months ago. It looks pretty neat, but the first level almost made throw up. I don't usually get motion sickness during a game, but something about it really messed me up. I heard it gets better after that, but I'm not sure I wanna risk it...

I guess I regret almost every console and PC game I've bought this past year. I've probably only spent $300 on fifty or so games (indie bundles and 360 sales), but I've only actually played a couple of them.
Halo Anniversary - I'm not very far into it, but I already feel I've gotten my $15 worth. Some great memories, and I'm slowly getting my FPS skills back. I plan to finish this again and then play each successive Halo game.

Re: Recent regret purchases...
Any motion stuff, including the Wii are my regrets. At one point we owned 2 Wiis and barely played either of them. I still have one of mine. It was modded and plays thousands of SNES, Genesis, Super Nintendo, 3DO, etc. games and I just can't seem to part with it because of that. Yet I haven't hooked up the damn thing in probably 3 or 4 years (other than to try to sell it).
I unfortunately rode the motion control wave and while I enjoyed the Kinect, the novelty wore off after a few months. At least I got a few months out of the Kinect though. The PS3 Eye is my worst regret. I used the damn thing maybe 10 hours (if that) and never used it again. Worst purchase for me in the past generation. Luckily I was able to unload my two Kinects and PS3 Eye before the new gen came out.
I haven't joined the next generation yet or I would likely have some regrets like many of you have. I can't seem to make myself finish my 360 & PS3 games, so I don't know if I will ever get around to a PS4 or Xbox One. And the games aren't exactly compelling me to buy a new system.

Re: Recent regret purchases...
I can't think of anything recently I would call a regret. Ghosts I got for free and played it for 5 minutes, mostly because I got caught up in BF4 instead... so that wasn't really a purchase.
I don't regret buying Titanfall, but I'm not playing it nearly as much as I thought I would since most of my friends are playing Diablo 3 instead. It's still fun, I have nothing bad to say about the game, but i'm not spending a lot of time on it.
The Kickstarter thing is a good one; Broken Age was extremely underwhelming and lackluster and I regret backing it.

CoD Ghosts. Since It came out I have played more Black Ops II multiplayer Than Ghosts multi. The numerous large maps are BU@#$%IT campfests. The bonus preorder DLC map Is terrible. It's amazing how map design is so critical to how good the multiplayer experience is. I've heard the DLC maps are all much better - But for the first time I am not interested in the DLC.

Dark Souls is a demonic force that will take over your mind and body. I have never had a game affect me like DS1 did.
I am kind of apprehensive about next week when DS2 for the PC is released. I am not quite ready to be under it's dark spell again.
I have other games I love playing, but if DS2 is anything like the first...I will forsake all others for months.

I definitely have to add Wii U to my list. Didn't even remember I had it until people started mentioning the Wii. Totally useless purchase for me. The Wii was worth the price I paid just for Xenoblade and Last Story.

Good point. Add this to the list for me as well. If Mario Kart 8 fails to deliver next month that thing is going to Goodwill.

Re: Recent regret purchases...
Wii had some great games...SMG 1 & 2, Metroid Prime 3 & Trilogy, both Zeldas, Sports & Resort, Smash Bros, Kart, 2 Kirbys, DKC Returns, Sin & Punishment, House of Dead Overkill, RE4, JRPGs mentioned above, plenty of others.
I more than got my money's worth.
On topic, I guess Killzone Shadow Fall, which looks great, but probably isn't for me.

Re: Recent regret purchases...
Recently, the closest thing to a regret is Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. I knew going in that there was a good chance it wouldn't be for me, and sure enough, the difficulty level and I are not so much on the same page.

^^ So are you saying my 6 year old is going to hate this game when I give it to him for Easter?
