Re: MLB 14: The Show - Baseball Is Better * - PS4 Edition

created myself and started my RTTS journey tonight (still very cool that they have my full name)

reversed controls for fielding really screwed me over in the pre-draft scouting

was drafted by the Rangers late 5th round and refused the contract and went back to school for a year
was drafted by the Red Sox late 4th round the next year and accepted the contract

had a good initial outing (pitcher) and an even better second game throwing a complete game shutout allowing only 4 hits, no walks, and striking out 11

only thing I really dislike is going to AL teams and not getting to hit (I guess I would in interleague play)

RTTS is definitely why I most enjoy this game

I played a couple of exhibition games tonight and definitely enjoyed it. I noticed that as soon as I started pressing the contact button instead of the normal hitting X button, I consistently got hits and home runs. I'm really hoping the Dynamic difficulty option finally allows me to learn and adapt to the game gradually instead of giving up after several 2- hit games in a row.

Fielding is a pain in the ass, I don't blame you. That's where I've made so many errors. Also, the players don't move much on the field before a pitch, at least when I was playing left field.

The practice modes are tough, haven't stolen a base yet in that mode. Any tips?

I noticed the graphics improved as you got to the majors. I guess the minor league stadiums weren't all that detailed.

I installed and setup my franchise / sliders last night. I updated rosters and should be ready to rock a couple games this week... the graphics are slightly disappointing but again, I havent' played in game yet; I'm just going by the into and menus.

Fun glitch in RTTS - I was on 2nd as the runner, and there's a guy on first. Batter walks to load the bases..and I'm still on 2nd.

Oh, and I didn't see Jose Abreu anywhere on the latest roster. Do they seriously not have him ready yet?

OK didn't see him when I browsing players to model after - I'll check when I play a non-RTTS game.

I'm going to go ahead and voice my biggest complaint about this game. I can go a whole game without striking out and making contact with each and every batter but yet very few of the balls that I do hit find a hole or end up with something positive. I can get a hit with one guy to then turn around and hit the ball solidly with the next and it be a double play. However, I can be cruising along with my pitcher while striking out twelve to fifteen of the other team's batters but yet the few balls they put in play seem to find a open spot far more often than the ones that I hit do. It's frustrating to strike out 15 guys but yet lose to the other team that has a handful of hits and three of them be homeruns.

OK, I finally managed to snag a copy after what was a much tougher than expected shopping trip.

I started at a secondary Gamestop (the closest one was sold out), with InFamous and Knack in hand to trade in. I get to the front of the store and what do I see? Opened cases with NEW stickers plastered on the front. I turned around immediately. Ugh. So I go to WalMart next door, and they're sold out. I went across the street to Target, and they're sold out!

Finally, I went a bit down the street to Best Buy, and asked for a copy (since they keep all PS4 games in the cage up front). They looked in the cage and couldn't find it. I looked in the cage and couldn't find it. They had 17 copies in the store, but nobody could find them! Just as I was about to give up all hope, the cashier asked a manager, and she said "they're in the cage, in the brown box" Sure enough, we look in the cage again, and at the bottom there was a box that said MLB 14. We all missed it. Oy.

So they grab a copy and I get out of there. Jeez, I didn't think it'd be that hard to find a PS4 baseball game. BTW, every store I went to had PS4s in stock. Go figure.

When I went to Best Buy to pickup two copies at around 4 on Tuesday they were nowhere to be found. I had to ask about them and a guy had to go get them from a box in the back. And they wonder why their media sales are struggling. Also, while I was standing in the game section another customer came over to the PS4 area and was looking around for something. I asked him if he was looking for The Show and he said yes. I had to direct him to one of the Best Buy employees and told him that he had to get them get a copy for him as they had nobody actually working in the section nor did they bother putting it out in the first place.

After playing RTTS most of the day, I'm not very impressed. It looks and feels like last year's PS3 version to me. And there are small bugs that just make it seem unfinished.

For example, in past versions, during batting practice, if you hit one up the middle at the pitcher shield it would bounce off it. Now it just goes right through it like it isn't there. Not sure how something that's been the same way for years is now broken.

I've also heard the play by play say more than once the run scored when there was a guy on 3rd and I grounded out to end the inning.

Also, I HATE the baserunning controls. I am constantly heading back when I am trying to move forward. I can't seem to slide properly either. It's to the point where I am just going to turn off baserunning entirely. And don't get me started on the outfield. Mercifully I've been made a DH.

The good news is I had a 26 game hitting streak already. I like how the point spending works now so it's not a mystery how much you need to for the next level.

Are goals and manager interaction gone? I see this level XP meter but I don't see goals like hit 5 HR's in the next 3 series anymore.

Big time amateur here. I played my first game, an exhibition playing Kershaw and the Dodgers against the Reds. Totally destroyed them 15-1 with a complete game and 13 Ks. Too bad I missed the shutout (gave up a solo HR in the 7th), but I did chase Cuedo after 2 and popped a Ultra-Rare Silver trophy for it, which was pretty cool for my first game. I liked the presentation, thought the graphics were pretty great (except for the dead player eyes) and the stadium and lighting were spot-on. Most of the presentation and voice work was really good and appropriate as well. Not going to buy the game, but I'll be keeping this rental a while, I think.

getting kind of frustrated with the game myself
I am 10-0 as a starting pitcher with 1 save (save was after coming back from an injury) in AAA ball and have been dominating but still haven't been called up yet to the bigs

must be because I am on the Red Sox farm team :(

I don't understand why gamestop opens new games. Once they are open, they are no longer new.. is this to scam people into thinking they are getting a new game when some of their, "new" game could have been trade in's already.

Do they remove the DLC? Do they do this to prevent returns?

Granted I wouldn't buy the game and not open it, but it's the principal.

Is this worth the 60$ knowing it's going to be worthless in half a year?

Re: MLB 14: The Show - Baseball Is Better * - PS4 Edition

Gamestop opens the games so that the staff there can play all the new games first and still sell them as "new". It's a ridiculous practice that should be outlawed, but they keep on doing it. As long as there are suckers who will buy them (or grandparents who don't know the difference), it'll continue.

I just played my second game ever. Made a rematch of the game I went to last week : Washington at Philly. Playing as Cliff Lee I won 12-0 and pitched a perfect game! Guess it's time to up the default settings. I got a little nervous there in the eighth and ninth -especially with a couple of well-hit balls fielded well by my infield. I did like how the broadcast team made passing references the first few innings, but got more careful with the wording later on for fear of jinxing it. The crowd started getting louder with every out from the seventh inning on. Surprisingly, I didn't pop a single trophy for pitching a perfect game against the CPU, which seems a little mean to me. Anyway, I did upload the clip of the final outs because I figure it's pretty rare, at least for me it is. :D

If you ask them about it, the answer they usually give is "it's to prevent theft." None of the games they keep on their shelves have discs in them. All the discs are stored behind the counter. For used games, I suppose this makes sense, or else someone could just open a case and grab the disc.

Some Gamestops also have a cage or cabinet behind the counter where they keep new, sealed games. The Gamestop I've gone to in the past does this, and I bought a new and sealed copy of Borderlands there years ago.

The problem of course is, what happens when they run out of those sealed copies? Well, then you get stuck one of those display cases for a "new" copy. The way I see it is, what stops Gamestop from selling a used copy as new with this policy? And at that point, what's the difference anyway. If I'm buying new, I want to break the seal, not them.

I had one of the weirdest glitches I have ever seen. I was in the second inning of a game when suddenly parts of the screen went black with white speckles. After that the batters and parts of the field and stadium were blacked out with the same thing that I just described. I made a mistake by not at least taking a pic or two of my screen because I was in such a hurry to just play the damn game. I restarted the game I was playing and it fixed the problem. Has anyone else seen this weird glitch?

musick 05-11-14 05:10 PM

Re: MLB 14: The Show - Baseball Is Better * - PS4 Edition

I've seen reports of a black screen glitch like that
you can search/report it here http://theshownation.com/bug_reports

the only major glitch I have seen is during the end of game dugout cutscene the bodies of the players are glitching through the wall behind them and the bench

I started on AA and was called up to the Red Sox after like 4 or 5 games as a Starting Pitcher.

Not sure if you are the same, but I had a ton of strikeouts each game; (10+) and played a couple full games.

yep, my SO to BB ratio is hugely sku'd toward SOs and I go late into games (if not complete) without issue
made the ASG .... let's just say I've been dominating
sucks that I haven't been called up
I might just ask for a trade, but I know they won't let me go

Sounds like everybody's complaints regarding RTTS is a complete rehash of every single iteration of this game --- which has made me pass on playing anything but Franchise.

Speaking of Franchise, do you not set ticket prices, procure advertising or add facilities / etc anymore? I couldn't find the option to control that stuff. I'm certain my team has a budget but I'm not sure where to find those details.

Well I've gotten almost all of those player-specific trophies out of the way. Just need to get the one for Cabrera. 3 HRs AND a perfect day at the plate. UGH.
