I'd say it's arguably the most intense, scary game I've ever played. I play it in short bursts just cause it can get to you after a while. I love the Dead Space series but as far as scary comparisons, I say this one wins hands down.

Just a constant sense of dread throughout. It does die down a bit as you get further in and more used to anticipating what the game can throw at you, but the first 5-6 hours are stressful as hell.
Highly recommend playing with headphones, as the sound design is amazing.

Yup. Played the first hour last night with my surround sound headphones. The sound design alone is worth the price of admission. I'm not an audiophile by any means but holy moley is that an intense experience. I don't think I'll be able to play this one more than one mission at a time but it's well worth the money, even at full price.

Oh. It's one of THOSE games. The ones that my pair of headphones will orgasm with. FUUUUUUUUCK. Now I really want this.

I went and grabbed one of the last two copies of this at Best Buy and did it mostly based on what you guys have said and what one person that I know has said about the game.

I'm glad to see the motion tracker acts a tracking device for your next objective, I was always getting lost.

Playing this game in the dark made me think of this commercial.

Just use the map. Thankfully, it actually pauses the game when you look at it.Originally Posted by Mok

Gives you a much needed breather.

You can now play this on Oculus Rift btw... They apparently left support in the engine, so it has independent head tracking even.

Yeah, so I've been playing this tonight and it's pretty fucking cool. It's extremely atmospheric and gets the heart racing and I haven't even run into the fucking alien yet. I'm at the part where I have to try to send a signal to the passing ship to pick my ass up. I'm stuck, so I'll play later.

I don't know if this a mistake but I found The last survivor DLC on PSN and it was listed as free. I thought it was a GameStop preorder exclusive.

At what point did they show up as free? After you completed the transaction completely, or on the "confirm purchase" page?Originally Posted by OldBoy

Basing on the count of word 'fucking' in your message I'd say it has made an impression on you - a pretty good one. That is a nice recommendation as well. Not what people write but how they do it, hehe I am not sure if you're male or female but your comment makes me think of Jack from Mass Effect <--- complimentOriginally Posted by Why So Blu?

Wrapped this one up last night.
I'm actually a big fan of IGN's review style of not being overly critical but keen to tell you whether or not you should spend your money on something. That being said they couldn't have been more wrong with their review. This game is a classic and easily the best movie tie in since Goldeneye. Depending on how November turns out it may even be my GOTY.
It does suffer from the "Return Of The King" issue of too many endings and in general the third act is too long (basically, it feels like they developed DLC and just left it in the campaign instead of pulling it and charging you) but other than that its hard to find faults in it. I've largely given up on survival horror, partially due to becoming older and partially due to the genre getting incredibly stale, but this is the nicest return to form since Resident Evil 4. People keep talking about the scare factor but alot of people are forgetting the important thing...the game is a hell of a lot of fun. If you haven't picked this up yet do yourself a favor and grab it during black Friday when it will likely hit the $25-30 mark.

NEW NIGHTMARE AND NOVICE DIFFICULTY MODES

Quote:
Nightmare Mode:
We’ve seen a number of players with extremely strong dispositions demand more challenges for their Alien: Isolation encounter – another try at survival against tougher odds.
In response to your requests, we’ve created Nightmare Mode, a new difficulty level, which should challenge players to beat the ultimate Alien: Isolation experience.
Explore the world of Sevastopol with a motion tracker featuring a damaged display and undependable information. Resources will be even more limited, the map systems have gone offline and fellow survivors and synthetics are even more deadly and aggressive.
In this heightened, terrifying atmosphere, our Alien will be hunting you like never before. With an upgraded AI that has amplified its fatal hostility, every step you take may be your last. Our monster is more adaptive, learning from your tactics with chilling speed and with intensified senses that will give you no second chances…
Novice Mode:
Similarly, we have had requests from the community to have more time and breathing space with which to explore Sevastopol. Therefore, to balance the horror of Nightmare Mode, we also have Novice Mode.
For those who may have already survived the terror first time around, take on the experience again with more of a potential reprieve…
You’ll be given more resources and ammunition, with synthetics and fellow survivors being less troublesome. Our Alien will also be more forgiving, more easily distracted and less aggressive in his hunting style.
Both modes are free to update to and enjoy today across all formats.
