Re: PC Gaming Thread

Skytech Reviews have been mostly positive...but as with say the High-end Alienware PC's, More Expensive doesn't always mean better.....this is another lessson on just how important Cases, Cooling, Fans are when selecting a PC....then again the low and mid range models got high praise so go figure....

Yep, the mid-line ones are fantastic.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

I was reminiscing about how I used to play a ton of Duke Nukem, Quake and those kinds of games, and I really haven’t done much PC gaming in the last 15-20 years. My friends and I would build crude maps of all sorts of things, including our houses
I built a gaming PC in 2016, but then didn’t use it for anything except the type of indie games that don’t require any real horsepower. But I might go and install Doom and Doom 2 again…

Because, I just read about some guy who released his friend’s Doom map in March after his friend passed away last year. He found an old floppy disc with Myhouse.wad, so the map was like 30 years old, and he made a few updates then released it as Myhouse.pk3 on the doomworld forums. Sounds like a fun trip down memory lane, and it has really brought the Doom modding community together to celebrate all things Doom. Y’all should check it out.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

I decided to put this trailer here since it's PC Only...not consoles which is a shame. At least to ME, this would have me interested in a PC...almost a bit of...Fallout Feeling going on.....For October 2023....

If it's running DirectX, Microsoft tries to make it as easy as possible, but Xbox is a console still, so there's specific hardware one has to customize the code to run well on, as well as licensing and compliance to follow-through on, so it's not free, in terms of both money and man-hours.

The game does look to be using DirectX 11 based on the Steam requirements:

Also, the game is "cross-platform," but at the moment that means PC, iOS, and Android. It seem like the iOS and Android versions are coming after the PC release.

I thought back to this video I brought up earlier and decided to see how much this build would set me back. The total I arrived at is $2,029.44, plus $99.43 for the shipping of the case (odd since Amazon claimed it was eligible for free international shipping) and $233.38 in taxes, for a grand total of $2,362.25.

Although I opted against the RTX 4070 FE cos Amazon wanted $849.99, and went with a ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Twin Edge OC for $599.99 instead.

Anyhoo, is this worth pulling the trigger? Serious question cos I dunno if the price : performance ratio is favorable or not.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Neat little setup...though the price seems to be a bit out there. I'm not a fan of Small Case Setups especially after seeing so many gaming PC Videos with insane heat numbers and thermals despite many having a high $$$$ Tag. It does seem to have airflow all over but I can't tell just how it all goes in & out. Love to see the Thermals on this one....

And speaking of cases, given that amount of money, I'd be tempted to get this one from IBuyPower ..... Gaming RDY Y60BG204 | iBUYPOWER®
This has the much high regarded Hyte Y60 Case that was basically everyone's Case of the Year last year. IBuyPower owns Hyte....it's a awesome case and huge....

Re: PC Gaming Thread

I get wanting a larger case for better airflow/thermals. Heck, the Sony engineers wanted the PS5 to be larger than what we eventually got but the Sony execs said no. However, since I intend to keep my eventual gaming rig in my living room, I wouldn't want a giant eyesore of a case taking up too much of my already limited space.

That makes sense with a lot sort of incorporating Gaming/Tv/Movies into a central fixture...after reading and seeing these, seems actualy a lot or going that route; smaller footprint that sort of blends in well not looking out of place. I found three that's really interesting showing the inside, openings and the how and what's in them....pretty fascinating....

Re: PC Gaming Thread

^ Thanks for those.

I thought this build he's upgrading looks mighty impressive.

EDIT: The above video was the wrong one. Here's the video that pairs with the video at the end of my post.

EDIT # 2: This one as well.

I'd love emulate it but I don't have the talent or patience to do stuff like making custom cables.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

With majority of the parts inside a PC, I feel fairly comfortable on a handful of choices to consider...Motherboard, CPU, Power Supply, Ram, Case (Even more choices), SSD, Cooling (Even more choices0...yet the GPU Circus continues....prices were and all over the place and with recent new releases, it's starting to sound like a Sham Con Game; look at these Brand New Cards with lower prices...just don't look real hard at the specs and numbers....

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Hasn't Nvidia been (over)relying on DSSL rather than actual horsepower this generation?
