I was debating on whether I should start a thread on this since I didn't want it to be self promotion :p

My completely biased take: Yes, it's like TF2. But more characters, classes, and unique powers. As a shooter fan, I'm excited. :)

I put it here simply because it's PC-only (so far) and this forum is console-centric.

Looking forward to it, I signed up for the Beta.

I'm really looking forward to Elite: Dangerous when it comes out soon. Am cautiously optimistic about Dragon Age: Inquistion. Loved the first one, not so much for the second one.

While console centric, bigger PC titles tend to get threads. I think this qualifies as a bigger PC title.

I'm planning on buying a Saitek X52 Pro for Elite and Star Citizen. Really looking forward to both of them.

Overwatch looks pretty cool. I'm amazed they kept it under wraps until Blizzcon. I signed up for the beta. I started playing WoW again on the weekend too (they sent me a free week of wow email)

excellent!

I liked after the cinematic trailer at blizzcon, still no one knew what it was, "its a game right? or a movie?" haha. I'm glad blizzard is going into the team FPS genre

Very impressive Diablo-like game from Korea called Lost Ark Online. Doesn't go into beta until next year and who knows if it'll ever release here, but here's hoping!

Microsoft plans to hold a Windows 10 event at its Redmond campus in late January, according to the official Windows blog, and Xbox head Phil Spencer will be on hand with others to talk about the "consumer experience."

The news comes the same day that Spencer touched on the importance of Windows gaming in a tweet:

Phil Spencer ✔ @XboxP3
Follow
@RpLayy I'll be focusing more on what we are doing on Win10 in January, it's time for us to talk about gaming on Windows.
Hope they have a better vision and push for PC Gaming.

From what I've read it's basically having the same framework for Xbox/Windows PC/Windows Phone, so people can code for one and have apps/games ready for the other two pretty quick.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Had some "classic" PC fun yesterday.

I was playing The Evil Within and the game had a hard crash, that it restarted my computer completely. Took a break and came back with my PC from 3-4 years ago. It was loading an old version of Windows, well, it was actually using the Ubuntu loader that I had at that time, where I had a screen where I could select what OS to start.

So I loaded Windows, looked around and found out that my SSD drive had disappeared. So it was actually loading an old drive that I kept there when I upgraded to an SSD drive. That old hard drive was the one with the old Windows and Ubuntu. So I enabled the SSD drive. Then went to BIOS and put that as my first boot selection. For some reasons that boot selection looked different from the last time I checked hmmm.

So I start from the SSD drive and of course it says that it can't find the boot manager or something like that. That I needed to use my rescue drive. So now I need to find my Windows 8 DVD. Thankfully it wasn't that hard. Now repair, fix problems, etc. but yeah, that didn't work. At the end I had to do a restore. Thankfully, for some reason, I removed a program last week, so that was the one available.

And that brought back my PC! This is the short version of course.

That could mean that your PSU can't handle the load.

The dollar amount spent is obviously incorrect as I've purchased most of those games well below the current price.

One year later:
  • Worth: $3079 ($914 with sales)
  • Games owned: 277

Damn, almost 100 new games. At least I got my not played percentage down.

My current count is 131 games, 60% unplayed. However, I have at least a couple of dozen games at Humbe and other bundle sites that I haven't even redeemed on Steam so it's probably closer to 70-75% unplayed.

Beamdog, the makers of Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale enhanced editions, is planning to release this year a new game that takes place between Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, using the Infinity Engine.

I don't know whether they've released anything original yet, or just done these remakes, so it'll be interesting to see if the quality is up to snuff.

I never understood why anyone wets their pants over these non-real world scenario tests that require a ridiculous cooling system no average end user could ever afford (or even want). Just give me the specs of what it can achieve with normal cooling solutions under real world scenarios for an end user.

G.Skill sets new DDR4 overclock world record of 4,255MHz

http://e5c351ecddc2f880ef72-57d6ff1f...0.Z-Z96KYq.jpg

G.Skill sent out a cheery email on Monday announcing that it has set a new world record for DDR4 memory frequency overclock speed. Using a single 4GB stick of Ripjaws 4 Series DDR4 memory in single-channel mode, the company has hit a DDR4 memory frequency of 4,255MHz CL 18-18-18.

The feat was achieved on an Asus Rampage V Extreme motherboard (X99 chipset) with an Intel i7-5960X processor using a liquid nitrogen cooling system. The X99 chipset supports quad-channel memory, but a single-stick configuration is better suited for frequency record-setting.

Are you going to be running DDR4 at this speed on a typical gaming PC? Of course not. In other words, this is all a bit of a marketing ploy, but it's a cool ploy nonetheless. Our RAM feels just a bit sluggish today, for some reason...

Check out the full CPU-Z validation of the record below.

There are people who do this kind of thing, and there'll be someone out there trying to beat that record.

This isn't a review, just someone boasting a record. Don't really understand why it bothers you.

It doesn't bother me. I simply find it silly. It's like "yeah, it can do this (given extreme measures)! You won't ever need to push it this far, making the stats meaningless, but we did it! Meaning this tech is awesome!"

Besides, if you have to cool it the way they did, it's not much of a boast either. If you feel the need to show me how much it can do under stress, show me with normal cooling solutions that don't require the end user to leave the PC case open and hook up a constant stream of liquid nitrogen to it. Then I'd have a better assessment of what it can really do.

It'd be like attaching a rocket to a Prius and boasting about how the car doesn't fall apart going 500 mph.

More performance, obviously  I attribute something like this to being more like the stuff they do on a show like Top Gear (i think, i'm not a car guy at all so it might be a bad comparison). It's just for fun, marketing, and showing off and less to do with real world practicality. If you're just talking about regular tinkering, that's no different from the standard overclocking and cooling that people do on their computers.
